Elle wasn’t mine. Not the first time I met her, and certainly not when I spotted her in the arms of another man. And not just any man—-a criminal. She wasn’t just any woman either, but a girl gone missing more than ten years earlier, when she was the love of my brother’s life. The eyewitness reports said he’d died trying to save her. That might have been true, but it didn't stop me from blaming the shy, sweet girl who had lived down our street. I’d grown to hate her. My once happy family had been torn apart, and the secrets surrounding her disappearance never let the matter rest. Now fate had brought her back into my life again.
As a Secret Agent, my undercover status led me right to the heart of the most corrupt men on earth. I never thought it would also lead me into the darkest recesses of my mind. That’s where Elle resided. Where she deserved to be, especially with the pampered life she now lived. She might have been dripping in diamonds and dressed to kill, married to a billionaire, but she was about to disappear again. With me. I wanted her to feel our pain. I wanted her to suffer. Worse, I wanted her.
Warning: This book contains very graphic violence, disturbing situations, dubious consent, and very strong language.

I just finished Gaige and I just loved it. I'm hooked and I just don't want to ever let go. Gaige is an undercover agent and he is trying to bring down the organization that is involved with sex trafficking. What he doesn't expect is to find Elle. She was his brothers girlfriend that went missing when his brother was killed. He has a lot of anger and resentment and to see her at the enemy's household being his wife doesn't make his disposition any better. Little does he know is that Elle is a prisoner and is continually beaten by Marco. Little things comes out and he starts to see and has to save her whether he is angry with her or not. Will Marco let her go? Will Gaige let his anger go to actually see what is right in front of him? Will Elle forgive herself and let the guilt go? You will have to read and see.
This was a really good story. I just love all her plots and even though this was different than Slade and Blake it was still enjoyable. To me it seems a little more tamer yet somber if that makes sense? What I love that Alaska does is that the characters are so versatile and you cant help but love them even though you just want to smack them up beside their head with the things that they say and do. It's magic!!
Alaska is one of my top dark erotic authors and I canny wait to see what she comes up with but I can assure you that it will be hot and amazing!
So, I just finished Gaige and really enjoyed it. This story had a thicker plot to it, with graphic situations, violence, and action. It is a dark read, but our hero also has a soft side to him. Our heroine, Elle has been a victim of human trafficking, so of course there are a lot of emotional situations involved as well. Another good book. I can't wait to see what Alaska has in store for us next.
Another great dark romance!! I'm so happy to keep getting to enjoy Alaska's books because she does not disappoint with what she writes.
Gaige starts out with a bang of me hating Marco right away. We get to endure with Elle what she has put up with for 10 years with this man that took her. Then enters Gaige undercover. He's got so much hate in him over Elle because he doesn't know the truth of what really happened all those years ago and why his brother died and Elle went missing. I think I would have been just as shocked to see her and her surroundings yet he feels something is off. He thinks she's been living the high life until he hangs around for a little bit and sees what really goes on. There's so much bitterness in him though still, that he doesn't know if he should help her or let her stay and suffer. Elle was a great character because even though she goes through so much, she still holds strong and believes she will make it out of this nightmare and hopefully Gaige will eventually see she really does need her help. Gaige is fighting some tough demons of his own but the two of them together start to heal each other but still have a hard journey ahead of them with Marco still out there to cause problems.
Alaska did an awesome job with the characters, steamy scenes and plot. She keeps the words flowing so easily that you want to keep turning the pages to see where this will lead. I'm looking forward to the next book. I know it will be just as great and I would recommend this whole series to anyone who loves dark romance. Each is a standalone so it doesn't matter what order you read them in.
I loved this book. It was a bit different from the other two books in the Captive series, (they are stand alone books) but I think it was the best one so far. I loved Gaige and Elle.
I just love how Alaska writes. Her books keep me captivated from page one till the end. She is my new favorite author, and is an auto buy for me.
I love this author, and I love her books! Although she writes a bit darker than I normally read, her characters are riveting and the way she layers in the details and emotions of the story is amazing. Plus, her sex scenes are fabulous!
This series is amazing I am totally in love with Alaska's genius. Gaige and Elle have lots of downs but some really great ups and you just can't stop yourself for wanting them to have a happily ever after together. This story takes you for one heck of a ride just hold on and enjoy!
This author is frigging amazing with how each book in this series has an individuality that makes it slightly unique and stand out but still be about a similar theme.
Review for Gaige: Captive to the Dark Series by Alaska Angelini
Gaige is the third book in the Captive to the Dark Series by Alaska Angelini and is a dark erotic romance. If you are not into the dark, kinky side of things you’ll want to avoid this book, but if you enjoy a walk on the dirty side… dive in baby.
I was already excited to read this book after reading the first two in the series, but not just because I knew it was going to be a hot and dirty book, the synopsis promised a thrilling storyline to boot. Many of my blog followers don’t know this about me since I stick pretty faithful to the romance genre/subgenres, but I LOVE books with a good who-done-it and a good thrill. The fact that this one promised BOTH smut AND that thriller aspect had my panties in a twist.
Elle was taken and forced into a world that she wanted no part of… her job was to play the dutiful wife. Silent, subservient, and available to slake her husbands lust for sex or inflicting pain. She had given up on everything until he showed up at her husbands party. The boy that died trying to protect her, the boy she loved with her whole heart, that boy was this man’s brother. The contempt on his face when he remembered who she was spoke volumes… Gaige hated her. He was the only one that could save her from her criminal husband, but would he?
I love Elle. That chic is so beautifully broken. I think I cried at least ten times reading this book because of her thoughts, words, the struggle she had with herself and the guilt she was burdened with. I just wanted to grab her up and hug her close so I could keep her safe forever.
Gaige is alpha to the max. And a pretty big a-hole. There were times when he made me want to toss my Kindle down and give up because his hard head would never stop being so stubborn. Then there are these moments where he is just the perfect dominant man. -le sigh-
You’ll love this book from the very beginning and you’re going to be so sad when it’s over. Every one of the books by Angelini have made a little divot in my heart and I will forever carry some piece of the characters with me.
Five emotionally driven stars and Five drenched panties for smut… this book has everything you’ll ever need in a book. Certified Mommy’s a Book Whore must read now!
Ten years ago, Elle was grabbed and kidnapped right in front of Carson, her boyfriend, who was killed outside the van she was thrown into. Marco, a high ranking drugs and guns dealer, as well as human trafficker had forced her into the role of his wife. He beat, drugged and raped Elle often. She'd come close to giving up until the night she saw Gaige, Carson's bother walk in.
Gaige has thought about his brother's death and Elle for years. He blamed her and dreamed of finding Elle and making her suffer the way his family had. Undercover as a secret agent, he gets a meeting with Marco in hopes of connecting him to crimes they are investigating. He can't believe his eyes when he sees Elle by Marco's side. His first impression is that she's now a spolied rich princess. But things she says and actions she takes soon have him realizing Elle is not there by choice. He decides he won't leave without her. His feelings however are mixed because he's been angry for so long, yet he feels protective of her now. When he sees the bruises, he knows taking her is the right decision.
Gaige gets Elle out, but it won't be easy convincing her they can be happy. Guilt over Carson and Marco wanting her back keep you wondering what's going to happen next.
I loved Gaige! He was a little messed up, but once he decided Elle would be his, he kept pushing her. Elle is strong woman to have lived through what she did. She has such a hard time getting past her love for Carson and the feelings she has for Gaige. She's confused and scared, but can't deny the safety she feels being with Gaige. They form a strong loving bond and you want them to get their happy ending.
This story is a standalone told from both their POVs. Lily, who we met in Slade's book is next and I'm looking forward to seeing how she's survived her kidnapping and progressed. Comment Comment | Permalink
Elle: A Proper wife compliments her husband, makes him shine as though she was his rarest accessory. She knows her place, supports his decisions, knows when to contribute in conversation and when to blend in. She laughs at all his jokes even when there not funny. A dutiful wife will loves him intensely, like there is no tomorrow. She will be the anchor he leans on during rough times, cause lets face it when it comes to marriage there is always that rough patch. At least that is how Marco expects me to behave. You want to know the real kicker? We're not really married, I'm his prisoner! He killed the love of my life, my high school sweetheart when he took me, that was ten years ago. But who'd ever thought the day of reckoning, the day of my salvation when help would finally arrive, it would come in the form of Carson's older brother Gaige. There's only one little problem in all of this, I'm the reason Carson died!
The writing in this one was good, the story flowed and kept my interest all the way through.
Elle (h) as a young teenage thought she had it all figured out. She and Carson were in love, he was THE one and they both had college ahead of them, they had their lives all planned out. Until one fateful night when she discovered monsters were real and she had been kidnapped right off the street. She had been pulled into a van and her last look at Carson was of him falling in a hail of bullets trying to save her. Her kidnapper had intended to sell her into sexual slavery but after seeing her up close, he decided to keep her all for himself.
Gaige (H) was on a mission to take down an extremely bad guy. He was wanted in connection with a gang that had taken out some prominent political figures. While undercover at the mansion of this criminal, he comes face to face with someone he thought we would never see again , Elle...his dead brother's girlfriend. Only she's introduced to him as this monster's wife and she looks pretty happy.
It doesn't take him long to realize that looks can be deceiving and that Elle actually needs saving.
I don't know what it is. This book in the series just didn't do it for me. Not in the way the previous two did. I didn't necessarily dislike this book, it just didn't live up to the other two. It felt...rushed. This book needed to be longer to cover all Alaska attempted to cover in this book.
I think that authors sometimes make the mistake of thinking that because they TELL us something is so, they don't actually have to PROVE it is so. This is the issue I had with this book.
I had difficulty completely believing their relationship because I didnt' experience any of their struggle to get there.
It won't keep me from picking up the next in the series but, in this installment - I was disappointed.
While a fan of this author and this series, I was not feeling this story line and its characters. I'm a huge lover of dark erotica, but what Elle went through - for 10 formative years no less! - to her sudden moving on and immediately in a relationship did not transition well. I want to experience the H/h discovering each other and strengthening - together - and this was missing between Gaige and Elle. Instead, the story just jumped right into the end results of them together, skipping so much of what connects the reader to a couple. Especially after knowing Elle's story, and that all she had ever known was badness, I needed more between her and Gaige; more care, intimacy, and connection that an in-depth exploration of a D/s relationship can give. From what the reader was given of Gaige and Elle, I really liked them, so I think I felt a bit cheated, missing out on this growth. While not such a fan of this book, I will continue with this series I very much like.
I did enjoy this book though it was a little different then the previous books in this series. It was much more story based with less sexual interactions then the other books. It was very emotional and suspenseful as Elle was a victim of human trafficking and Gaige was undercover when he literally stumbled upon her 10 years after her abduction and his brother's murder. Gaige needed someone to blame and Elle was the perfect choice as his brother was killed trying to save her. I loved Elle's strength and determination to survive and escape her captor. This book was enjoyable and I found myself unwilling to put it down until the end. I am looking forward to more books by the wonderful Alaska Angelini as I love her mix of darkness with love.
This book is a stand alone. I would consider this more on the gray side of the Dark genre. If you've just started out reading these, this would be a great starter. We meet Elle and Gaige in this book. Elle is the victim of human trafficking and forced to live a life of abuse. Gaige is the under cover agent trying to save her while protecting him self and the rest of his case. These two have a spark, fire, and history together. Fast paced book with everything you would look for to keep the pages turning. I would recommend this book.
I like these books. When you are in the mood for a little dark and falling in love in the face of danger this series is it. The first 2 are a little more darker but not by much. This would be a good starting point for those who want the dark reads but are nervous about it.
I give it a 3.5 stars. It was a little rushed over some parts I wanted more details on. Had a lot of action which I liked. Will continue to read the rest of the series. I love the alpha-male figures.
The book has a great deal of emotional content. Gaige is filled with rage due to his little brothers murder 10 years ago. Elle was his brother’s girlfriend and went missing the day his brother was killed and he has been harboring so anger and has directed all his anger towards the woman that went missing. Imagine his surprise when he runs into her while undercover trying to bring down a cartel. However, things are not always as they seem.
This book is full of feels and can be even be uncomfortable at times but I thought the story worked and had me on the edge of my seat. Now I am off to read the last book, Lily’s story...Slade’s sister.
