A great anthology full of both well known and some lesser celebrated works of vampire fiction and poetry that definitely deserve more recognition. I really liked the editor's selection and there was quite a few poems and stories I hadn't come across anywhere else which I really enjoyed. It also features exerpts from Bram Stoker's 'Dracula' and Sheridan Le Fanu's 'Carmilla' which I really loved. Overall the editor covers quite a broad range of western vampire fiction and it is a good discovery anthology for anyone who wishes to read more classic vampire literature. However I do feel like the later sections that veered away from vampire fiction could have been filled by other vampiric works that don't have as much recognition generally, an exerpt from Florence Marryat's novel 'The Blood of the Vampire' would have fit really well here. Overall a really good and carefully chosen selection, I appreciated the editor's foreword that explained their choices and gave a brief history of the genre. Would definitely recommend! :)

If you’ve picked this up hoping for full versions of poetry and short stories… you’ve picked up the wrong book. If you want excerpts of stuff that may intrigue you enough to find the sources then congrats this is the little collection for you.

I do feel like I have to do extra homework to truly enjoy what this books editors chose to be its content.
