(...) It is early morning, the sun is rising, and you can hear birds chirping in the background. The first sense of awareness in your brain appears, and you realise it is a new day. The usual thoughts start to pop up; interestingly, your eyes are still shut. What is on your mind? What are these thoughts popping up about? Most importantly, how are these making you feel? Do these feelings and thoughts have a recurring theme?. Eventually, you open your eyes and before you know it, the phone is in your hand; you are scrolling away while also trying to read what seems like too many notifications, in the blink of an eye you are already late so you jump out of bed and get yourself in your full action mode, playing catch up with a long list of tasks before rushing out the door. Then, as you get to the bus stop, the bus shuts the door in your face and leaves, and you have to walk to the train station with the impeding thought of your day getting more difficult with each step. When you get on the train, a lady bumps into you and says nothing. Everyone is glued to the screens of their phones and with their headsets on, they all seem annoyed and zombielike. You get to work already mentally drained, plough through the motions, and attend non-stop meetings where you feel you are barely making an impact. On top of that you aren’t even able to make time to have lunch. There seem to be challenges and issues everywhere, and just like that, the day is gone. You have been really busy and are feeling completely exhausted, yet you can’t but wonder, “What have I actually accomplished? You try to convince yourself with the narrative that, It was a terrible day, but I did what I could from the things I had in front of me. But inside your chest, there is a bubbling feeling that whispers “failure” and “missed opportunity to become better.” As you experience it, you immediately shut it down. You pick up the phone to scroll the news or social media, as an unconscious brain reaction to attempt to put down the rebellion, and extinguish the burning sensation that something has to change. The heart is weakened after years of life routine and the same old patterns, motivation to try new things and change is just nowhere to be found. You keep scrolling until you fall asleep. You were busy, yet unfortunately, you did not get any closer to the goals you set for yourself at the beginning of the year. Another day goes by ...
