I was disappointed in the first half of this book as the author used a lot of poetic license to develop the background to the Red River Rebellion of 1869 and the execution of Thomas Scott by firing squad at Fort Garry under the orders of Riel.
I was going to rate the book as 3 stars, however the last half of the book very good as it's a very interesting contemporaneous account by the author of Riel's 1885 North-West Rebellion based on many newspaper accounts and other eyewitness reports as the events unfolded. The newspaper reports included documentation of Louis Riel's trial, appeal and subsequent execution for treason in 1885.
