While staying at the Elizabeth manor, Melissa meets the last of the novel’s male leads—the rich and fabulous Peacock Melody. And watching his attempts to buy the heroine’s love, the last remnant faith she had in these men dies. Enough is enough. Melissa vows to keep these degenerates away from the sweet and innocent Yuri, the way only a villainess can!
I am genuinely so glad I decided to read this!! I didn't really like vol 1, vol 2 got better, but vol 3 was amazing!! Melissa def needs to be added to my list of fav FMCs, and this volume was sooooo funny and I loved it ❤😆✨ If anyone dropped this series cuz of the first vol, please continue reading it!! you're missing out on so much fun, trust me!
Melissa finally runs into the fourth male lead: Peacock, the rich degenerate. But she's not one to leave a pushy man alone--especially one with HIS tendencies. But Nine is watching her relationship with Yuri deepen, and he seems disturbed . . .
I'm not fond of the fact that the story feels the need to make Melissa and Yuri's relationship have a tinge of romance. I feel it would be more thematically appropriate (since the whole story is basically skewering romance tropes anyway) to let them just be friends, and have Melissa point out that romances generally don't allow friendships to exist because they're too busy trying to make everyone fall in love.
But other than that? It's basically perfect. Melissa gets a few digs in on everyone, but the main focus here is Peacock. He's the rich guy who wants to spoil Yuri, lock her up, and do terrible things to her. Yuri, unfortunately, doesn't get much of a vote in any part of this process, which offends Melissa.
The story's got an interesting point too about how "smart characters" can be as simple as "other people said they were smart, but when you actually look at them, they aren't really all that." Intelligence is more than what people say ABOUT you. It's what you are actually capable of doing.
And in the background, Nine's falling head over heels for Melissa, who may not be quite as ignorant of his attention as she'd like to be. For now, she's too busy dealing with the book's plot to want to notice--she still has the bad habit of treating those around her like characters, not people. And that may boomerang on her when she unintentionally hurts Nine by trying to blow off her own embarrassment.
Overall this remains a fun read. Melissa's the frustrated straight woman in a comedy of terrible romance tropes, and her hot temper combined with her attempts to keep it at least partially under control are a lot of fun. I rate this book Highly Recommended.
"What is a female lead? The saviour of male characters? A philanthropist? Someone who accepts the male lead's obsession and madness in the name of love?"
Comedy Drama manhwa/ webtoon Gaslamp Fantasy Otome isegye/ isekai/ portal fantasy Modern time Korean woman is transported into a romantasy novel as the "villainess" Proceeds to do what she wants and becomes the hero 🤺 Parody of the genre Challenges trashy, toxic and creepy behaviour that gets romanticised or excused The male leads are the worst Save the og heroine from being chained to dumpster fire! Melissa is a girl's girl through and through Werewolves & Mages Role stereotype reversal Lovely art
I am really into transmigrator stories. Haven't many of us readers imagined going into one of our beloved stories? Sometimes as ourselves, sometimes as natives of this other world, living adventures, meeting characters, fixing wrongs? As readers, we'd have valuable knowledge that could change the plot! Somehow along the way, east Asian writers started making fiction exploring exactly this premise 😍
Beware the Villainess! really stands out! It provides much needed satire to not only the transmigration subgenre, but to romance fantasy. Even when it is not openly criticising the many flaws of these types of stories, it provides certain parts of the plot fully tongue-in-cheek aware of exactly what it is doing.
It was my first experience with such a story in the subgenre, and therefore refreshing. Yet, although it starts a conversation and has an interesting FMC who forges her own (grey moral) heroic path, the story itself is not without its own shortcomings.
The author did a disservice to most side characters, and to Yuri, the og heroine and deuteragonist of BtV. She had an interesting plotline that could've been further explored and concluded. She's full of potential but at some point she just seems like a tool. She deserved better and happiness.
Read digitally and looking forward to purchasing the physical copy when it's released.
This series is such a joy! I can't remember the last time (if ever) I've laughed this hard reading a manhwa. Melissa continues to be such a great character and I fear I won't be able to go back to less confident, strong, and interesting FMCs when I finish with this series. I love how progressive the messaging is in this series - especially Nine's speech about it not being possible to "fight for" someone if they're not interested in your affections.
I love the speech Melissa gives to Ian, as well.
The unexpected highlight of the series for me has been Nine and Yuri fighting over Melissa's attention. I didn't expect that to be so much fun to watch but the carnival scenes gave me so much life! This is definitely my favorite manhwa at the moment.

Melissa is still strong here, but also a tad annoying with her arrogance confronting Melody Peacock and inserting herself with the other love interests, though Yuri still seems to adore her. Likewise, Nine also appears to be devoted to her as well, and says as much as soon as he is able to, though it doesn't seem like Melissa truly understands Nine's feelings or devotion. Her maid, on the other hand, seems to read between the lines rather well, not that she's helping unless perhaps someone offered her a monetary reward for her aid. The market is an interesting scene, but perhaps tipped a bit too much in Melissa's favor given her memories of her original life. In all, the story seems to be more about Melissa figuring out how this world translates from the book she read and why things are different with her new perspective than about really moving the story along.

IT'S OFFICIAL! I'M OBSESSED WITH MELISSA!!!! I love how every time she takes down these pesky ML's, she goes into the psychology of it all and compares the situations from a fictional viewpoint to truly living in it. The book does a good job at showing Melissa's intelligence while balance humor and a healthy dose of reality (dealing with creepy men). Also, YURI IS ADORABLE, I LOVE HER SO MUCH! And Nine? SWEET BOY, LET ME LOVE YOUUUUU
Each volume is better than the last. It was hard to read at first because the supposed love interests were so darn awful! Little by little these losers are being surprised by the superior background characters and even the Villainess who is even getting more redeemable with her new world point of view.
My only complaint is how simple and generic the story has been helping up to this point. With how much I like nine I really hope the plot gets now interesting and the story stops feeling like all others I've read mashed together.
I love Melissa, Yona, Nine and Yuri!! Finally Melissa realized that Yuri does not actually like the male leads, she’s just obliged to follow the story. Nine got his fangs and tongue back!! I’m so happy for him. And there’s a misunderstanding, Melissa thinks that Nine likes Yuri but he actually likes Melissa. Yona keeps being such a good character, she’s extremely funny
nothing too plot heavy is happening but it's been a good time. I laugh everytime that one mean werewolf dude meets FL and ends up on his knees bc her aura is too strong! Go Girl Put Them In Their Place!
I blew right through this volume and was laughing so much. I love this series and can’t wait for the next one. I expect to re-read this series frequently.
