Theresa Shaver lives in South Central Alberta Canada.
As an avid reader, I used to dream about writing and sharing my own stories with the world. Publishing was a far off and intimidating goal until Amazon opened the gates! I love that I get real feed back from my fans on my books instead of some guy behind a desk who studies market trends. I write to share my dreams with the world and now I can. My first series is a Young Adult Post-apocalypse story. I love writing about the growth of characters faced with such huge challenges and plan to continue future stories in wrecked worlds. It's a new do it yourself world in so many industries so never stop believing in your dreams and do it yourself!

I listened to the first books in this series several years ago. I came across this one and thought I’d finish the series. It was funny-not funny to listen to this book when we had a power outage due to a storm! 🤓🤣

Not as intense as the others in the series, the author herself admits to not being as vested in the characters, but still a good disaster/survival story.

City Escape (Stranded #4) — Theresa Shaver (includes 2 books: 1: City (novella) chapters 1-7; 2: Escape chapters 8-21+Epilogue) June 23-25, 2018

This is the fourth “book” in the series. The book title is a combination of the two separate books included in this “set.” They both are needed as “City” starts from the beginning after the event at Disneyland and ends just after the stay-behinds find shelter. “Escape” picks up a few weeks after “City” ends and follows to the conclusion.“

City” is a very fast reading novella that preludes “Escape.” For background, this is the story of a handful of Canadian high schoolers, their teachers and chaperones that decided to stay behind in LA rather than attempt to return home. Five went by land, five went by sea, the remainder (14-18, I believe,) stayed in LA to wait for rescue. This is the story of what happened to those remaining students. April is the main protagonist, next to Mrs. Moore, the teacher who stays with them and helps guide them along.

These stories were pretty good, but not as fleshed out as the first two. The reader doesn’t get to know why some of the students disappeared. Nor is there are much background on the students as there was in the first two books (I am purposely skipping the third book as it was more about what happens when the first two sets of teens return home.)

The story does have a pretty decent plot, however, there are times where it feels like the author had things happen to only further the story.

As this is an independent writer, please note there are some typos/editing issues in this story. Don’t discard this book because of that though. If you have read the other books in this series, it would b good to read this book to discover what happens to the remaining students. There are some loose ends at the end, but overall a pretty decent, quick read.

Three stars.

The weakest of the series so far. I liked it overall but I wasn't as into it as the other works. The biggest reason for this is that I didn't feel as connected to the characters. The story is mostly told from the perspective of April who actually has some character development, going from meek and ruled by her mother to strong and resourceful. I liked her. I also liked the teacher, Mrs Moore, she was kick ass.
The rest of the students were, aside from 1 or 2, generic at best. They were fodder for random deaths scenes. (Death by lion attack?!? Really?!?)

The time skips were ok I guess. Seeing how the world carried on after 6 months was interesting since the previous books were of just the first month when everything was in decline. Here you see what's being done to build the world up again.

I might continue this series and buy book 5, but in a way I like how the story ended. All groups are home, the town is theirs....a high note to stop at. Then again, I do hate not finishing things. So big chance I'll end up buying the final two works as well.

Mrs. Moore knew that leaving was the best chance for survival so she sent ten students on their way home. She could not leave those she was in charge of though so she must stay in the city that she knows means death. Unless she can convice the other to leave before it is too late.Again the characters make this book. I loved the character of Mrs. Moore and hated the one parent. This book tries to fill the gap of what happened to those that stayed behind.

Loved this series!

I have been a prepped for years even before I knew what prepping was. I worked to build supplies and read everything. Unfortunately, the reading made me feel hopeless. Every book detailed how those that prepped lose everything and you can't fight the masses. This series show that struggle but it also showed that all is not hopeless and that survival is a big possibility.

City Escape - Stranded BK 4

Mz. Shaver was correct in that she stayed her heart wasn't as into these characters as the ones in her previous books. Nonetheless, tyre story was a good one with minimal editing errors. And for those, like myself, who wanted to know the date of the rest of the class it is well worth the read.

City Scape

Appreciated the way a teacher was able to think to keep her students as safe as possible. We are only human and mistakes can be costly. The teens had to grow up fast in order to survive a harsh reality. Their ability to pull together and help each other was key to survival.

Great series

Each book was very good. As I said in a previous review, the only thing I wasn't crazy about was starting over from the beginning at each book, but I understand that this was the way to go, so it was a small dislike. Other than that, I would recommend this whole series to anyone who likes "EMP" novels.

The Last of them ate Home

Long roads, hard paths and many losses loved ones and friends. In this uncertain world these three groups of teen and a handful of adult, faced the worst and the best that this new world had to offer. Facing the challenges that a harsh winter brings. Who will survive not that they are home?

Beginning disappoints but later appeals

In the beginning, the wise teacher makes poor choices which put her group in danger. Later as characters develop, she develops into the character I expect her to be. I appreciate the authors balance of danger with good, helpful people. More realistic than many apocalyptic novels.

Stranded

Not as detailed as the first three books in this series. Personally, I think the author is getting tired of writing them. I liked the teacher and other characters, but was sorry so many of the characters died. I really didn't think it was necessary to kill of so many.

So good!

I fell in love with this series from the first book, Land. In this story I was able to find out what happened to the group that stayed behind. It was one check of a trip, filled with highs and lows.

Not my favorite in the series, but it was nice to find out what happened to the group in the city. I personally got annoyed by the large time jumps. I want to know what happened during these times. Overall great addition to the series and I cant wait to see what happens in the next book

Stranded: City Escape

Stranded: City Escape, Book 3 was a little slower pace than book one and two in the Stranded Series. The author kept her characters moving drawing each one back into the story. A good book to read.

Overall I like the series but this can easily be bypassed.

I liked this one the least in the series. The characters were just not as easy to invest in. Lots of sacrificing by a couple of key characters and too many that were incapable of doing anything.

When April conveniently found the full box of baseball caps when they were getting sunburnt it cemented the fact that whilst I enjoyed this series they did get an awful lot of “good luck” in ways like that.

I've enjoyed all the books in this series, but for some reason this one moved along at a faster pace. I appreciate the realism and the edge of my seat anticipation with every turn of the page. I admit at tearing up at the ending ♥️

Good read

I like this series, even though it is geared to a young adult audience and I am almost 65. It would be excellent for teens.

Good

In all the post apocalyptic books that I have read it was refreshing to find one that showed more good than evil in the world.

I like apocalypse stories of survival. Simple story, just basic, geared probably for teen readers since most of the characters are teens. There is a next one but not out for free anywhere yet.

The final book in the Stranded series follows those left behind in L.A. after the EMP went off - a group of teens, the parents, and the teachers. Their storyline is a bit more condensed as they hide out in the city for a while before heading out to try to get back home. Their hideout is an ingenious idea from the author, but I think that other people would have thought of that as well. But other than that, Shaver doesn't ask much of the reader. She has written another great story that does a great job of showing an alternate possibility of what might happen after an EMP was set off. The first three books dealt with getting home and the thugs that can take over, but this book dealt with the better side of humanity. There was still an appropriate amount of "bad guys," but it was a sort of hopeful end to the series.

When you read, stop for a second and think about a character we are introduced to named Walt. Just think about it.

A great end to the series for sure - or a good standalone - it doesn't really rely on the other books.

m giving City Escape 4 stars but I give this entire series 5 amazing stars ! I love this author and how she writes this series ! I'm addicted ! This is one of the best books I have read for a long a time ! I can say though this last book wasn't as great as the other ones ! In the first book we learn Mrs Moore is a prepper we get to see some of her skills but not all... This group has a lot of loss but it lacked all the action the other books have. I don't know I just didn't connect with the characters like I did with Alex and Emily! Annnd I wish the author made the home coming a little bit longer ! You anticipate them finding their way home but it was just a little paragraph at the end! But you needed this side of the story to be satisfied ! Now I can not wait for Endless Winter !!!! It looks oh so good!!!! It needs to hurry up because I can't get enough of this series !!!!

3rd book in this EMP apocalyptic series.

This last group includes the teachers and chaperones with the last of the teens who decided to go to the Canadian Embassy for help. Unfortunately, it is only offices for replacing lost passports, etc. Not a refuge. So, they have to find a safe place with food to wait out several months in order to avoid the looting, rioting, fires, killings, and mass die-offs of the first of several waves of expected behaviors. Eventually (about a year later), a few of this group makes it home.

I loved the story of mail delivery that reminded me of the movie THE POSTMAN, but it is never followed up on in the story. That's the only subplot I was disappointed about. The rest was well written and each of the three groups faced totally different situations and problems. Loved it! I highly recommend the 4 books in this series in order.

Enjoyable

I have read all of this series so far. I would recommend them to readers who like this genre, no zombies, just regular folks in a horribly irregular world.
Their travels, challenges and ultimate successes are believable and were most engaging reading for me.
Makes you believe that with some knowledge, prepping, and some luck, you could survive many of the pending disasters just awaiting us around the next corner.

All of the characters in this series were very well written and the story going in 3 dif directions according to mode of travel made these books so dang interesting I had a hard time making myself put them down to do the things I was supposed to be doing. You know~ chores, eating, sleeping. Highly recommend these books!!!
