Hell of a Present

Rate this book
Buzby loves Yule... for all the wrong reasons. He’s looking forward to spending time in a lavish mountain town, but a wayward curse and snowed-in cabin force him to confront mistakes he never intended to. Fortunately, his ex has the survival skills to get them through it, if he could stop living in the past.

Freyr can’t wait to enjoy the holiday season alone relishing the spirit of Yule—even without his powers. But he never expected a self-absorbed demon to crash his getaway. Now Freyr intends to get the infamous Prince of Gluttony out of his system… All while keeping his secret hidden. Freyr might be hot and cold, but Buzby intends to give him the gift of a lifetime, and it’s one hell of a present.

4.5 ⭐️I love BP Gilmore!

My only (bookish) wish for 2026 is for more of her books! Seriously, I always adore everything she writes, paranormal or contemporary! She writes character with soul and spice and I can't get enough of them.

I was saving this book for the holiday season, and it's going to end up being my last official read of 2025. Way to go out with a bam!

Buzby and Freyr story was slightly more confusing than I would have liked, with a lot of details that we don't really get to see since they happened a very long time ago. Like thirty centuries or so ago.

But they feel right for each other, and they know what it's like to have so much time wasted when there's something to be done about it. Secrets and miscommunications are not my favourite way of getting a plot going, but second chance romances sometimes need that to be the thing that takes things from point A to point B. It can be annoying, but in this instance, it was reasonable (up to a point).

ARC Review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 🌶🌶🌶/5

TW - blood, violence, death

CW - toxic BDSM dynamic, hand necklaces, choking, public play, restraints, light degradation, orgasm denial

Tropes - Yule, second chance, paranormal, enemies to lovers, opposites attract

Representation - MM, queer rep, half Korean MMC

Thousands of lovers, thousands of lives and I’m still cursed with the taste of him, and our Summer of Like.

I enjoyed this novella 🤩. On the back of Hell of a Bargain, I've been eager to return to this world and learn more about the characters that B.P. Gilmore has created. In this novella, we get Buzby (MMC) and Freyr (MMC) who are dealing with a c.3000 year history where the former is drowning in guilt and the latter in hate. They 'happen' upon each other again and it's like they can't help be drawn to each other.

We get the story of their past and what it means for their present whilst also trying to make the best out of the shitty situation they've found themselves in, all in the backdrop of Yule festivities.

Can't wait to see what B.P. Gilmore brings us in the next novella 🤩

Scale:
⭐️ - would've DNF'ed / continued out of spite
⭐️⭐️ - shit, but whatever
⭐️⭐️⭐️ - meh, could've been better
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - lit 👅
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - loved it, inject this shit into my veins 🤪

🫑 - no smut
🌶 - no point
🌶🌶 - mediocre at best
🌶🌶🌶 - standard smut, hot
🌶🌶🌶🌶 - 🥵 okay, some CW
🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 - fuck me 🥵🥵 CWs / filthy with a side of filth - see Poison / Room Twenty-Two: Hide and Seek/ The Naughty List / The Naughtier List

Buzby and Freyr had allll the communication problems. Buzby was dealing with 3000 years of guilt and Freyr with 3000 years of vengeful hate. Their sexy no-strings-attached bargain when they reconnected and were snowed in was violent and messy, but worked for them. I wanted to wrap Buzby up in a hug because he was such a sad boi and his playboy facade was in tatters. Overall, well done high stakes novella.

Spice: 2/5

Triggers: death, blood, choking, references to near death experiences

Buzby has a problem. He's tasked to bring his brother Levi back to hell and about to face the one person, he still has feelings for even though it's been some 3000 years ago that everything went wrong in a horrible way.
Freyr is looking forward to spending a quiet yuletide like every year. What he didn't count for was running into Buzby, the one demon he can't get over. Maybe he can get him out of his system by giving in to temptation just once?

Exemies to lovers (that a trope? Because it should be 😂) at it's best. Both males never got over the other completely, trying to stay away did nothing to quash the feelings for each other. And when they collide again after all this time.....😮‍💨😮‍💨🔥. There's a bit of action, meddling powerful witches and a lot of self-reflection going on and I loved every second of this fast paced holiday novella!

What a surprising lovers to enemies to lovers story this was. I wasn't sure what to expect meeting Buzby and his opulent ways. He is tasked by his brother Lucifer to bring back Leviathan, but while he waits, he runs into the one man he literally can't get off his mind. The war god he betrayed in the worst possible way about 3000 years ago. The heat and passion between these two, even if one side is mostly hate, is off the charts. I'm going to be honest, Buzby broke my heart for the brokenness he was carrying. You will not regret this short novel, the second in the series of the royal devils.

"It’s almost comforting, in a completely soul-destroying way."

Loved this book, I had fun reading it and couldn’t stop turning the pages. I didn’t think I would be into male on male scenes but the way she wrote it made it hot as hellll. If you’re into witchy & demon fantasy mixed with a whole bunch of spice I would recommend this one, but don’t forget to hop over and read Hell of a Bargain first :). Cant wait for the next one!

Hell of a Present follows Hell of A Bargain focusing on Yule rather than Halloween! Both are great holiday romances and I am looking forward to what's next in this series!

Hell of A Present definitely took a different spin by involving multiple storylines coming from multiple different pantheons of gods along with our sinly prince. There was definitely some unique lore and history in this one and I loved the magic! I really enjoyed the MM main character relationship and how they got their second chance. I love it when men are only soft for each other after being burned by others.

Whew! Lots of angst between a celestial deity and a demon prince. Enemies to lovers, love-hate attraction, and second chance romance all wrapped up together. And don’t forget miss-communication for three thousand years. Overall, an ok read.

I was a bit confused in the beginning of this book but after that it became a good story. I like the relationship between Freyr and Buzby and how they overcome their earlier problems
