3.5 stars. Good action, suspense, and intrigue. Talented and heroic heroine. Don’t expect romantic relationship development.

STORY BRIEF:
Julia and Conrad are CIA agents in Europe. Conrad fakes his death and disappears for 17 months. Julia was in love with him and grieves. Because her life is in danger, her boss Michael brings her in from the field and gives her a job as an analyst at CIA headquarters. He also gives her a new identity. Michael helps her heal, and they fall in love. There is a mole at the CIA. Conrad has been trying to find the mole for 17 months. He comes to town with some evidence and asks Julia for her help. She is furious that he caused her to think he was dead. Now she is torn between the two men she loves. The mole is dangerous and plans to kill Conrad, Julia and others.

REVIEWER’S OPINION:
This is a good CIA thriller with lots of heroic action and suspense. There is no relationship development because we meet the three characters after they’ve fallen in love. Julia loves both Michael and Conrad. The reader will find out later if she ends up with one of them or not. Read this for action and suspense. It has a happy ending. There were none of my pet peeves. The plot and characters were good. I liked it, but I wanted to be a little more surprised or delighted (or maybe a little more romance) in order to give it more stars.

A small part of the story talked about Julia’s abusive childhood. I liked the author’s insight into the effects of abuse and how Julia survived it, described on page 46. “Having grown up with an abusive stepfather, Julia had learned at a young age the cost of showing emotion. Emotions were not to be trusted. Emotions got you another punch from a hard fist. Instead she learned to tap down the emotions so she could analyze and control the situation in her favor.” I was intrigued with Julia’s character as having “a high level of introversion. She craved solitude, preferred to work alone, and sought companionship on a one-on-one basis. A lone wolf to whom isolation was comfortable.” (page 43). This, a consequence of abuse.

DATA:
Story length: 295 pages. Swearing language: strong (including religious swear words). Sexual language: mild. Number of sex scenes: 2. Total number of sex scene pages: 5. Setting: current day Berlin, Virginia area, Prague, and Mexico. Copyright: 2009. Genre: suspense thriller with romance.

Flat out, I love this series! Opertion Sheba is a must read for anyone who likes romantic suspense. This book has it all, characters to root for, a returning soul mate, a love triangle and it's a political thriller that gives the reader a peek into the world of the CIA. I am wildly impressed with the author's attention to detail regarding the CIA.

Also impressive is the love triangle. Misty Evans does a brilliant job at dealing with a woman in love with two exceptional men. We know one of these guys is going to lose the girl, but Misty handles a delicate situation with the ease of a master. And yes, I did cry when Julia/Abby lets one of these men go. Just fabulously done.

After reading this story, I contacted Ms Evans and asked her what her connections to the CIA were. Her story was to realistic. I loved her heroine and felt her pain loving two men.

I'm now a Misty Evans fan.

I've never been a fan of love triangles and seeing how two very exceptional men in one, I'm now an even bigger hater of it, if that's even possible. Even if Michael does get his own book, a triangle always leaves someone short-changed. Call me singled-minded, but I've always been a stout believer in creating empathy for the principal characters (and if it's a romance, just 2 of them, please) and not have my loyalties split in a away that leaves a bitter taste of dissatisfaction.

Other that that, I did like the web of intrigue and the fast-paced suspense the moment the pace picked up somewhere halfway in the book.

I really wanted to like this book, but I had a few problems with it that really sunk my enjoyment of it. First and formost, I couldn't form a connection with Julia/Abigail. I get that her childhood abuse and job made her emotionally aloof, but she took it a bit too far for me. Second, while I normally enjoy love triangle romances, there's usually something about one of the guys that makes me root for one over the other. Not so with this book! Both heroes were good for Julia, and I couldn't decide who I wanted her with! Finally, while this book was action and intrigue packed, it got bogged down in spots and felt like it dragged on a bit too long. While I think I've read and enjoyed other books by this author, I don't think this particular series of hers would be worth continuing.

I'm not usually a spy novel sort of girl, but it was a free Kindle download; and I truly enjoyed it. It's well-paced with enough surprises to keep you entertained.

Review originally posted at Ramblings from this Chick

I really like Misty Evans and the thrills and intrigue of spy books, so putting the two together in the Super Agent series is like book catnip. OPERATION SHEBA is the re-release of Ms. Evans’s debut novel with new editing and some bonus material, and it’s interesting to see the growth and maturity of her storytelling voice (much more polished in her later work) in the face of a newbie author’s growing pains. Though the story is a bit slow to get started, laying the operational background for the rest of the series, once it picks up it’s full of intrigue and high-stakes action layered atop a finely crafted political plot and a chillingly manipulative villain. The bulk of the romantic development—though central to the characters’ motivation—occurs prior to the start of the novel, so the balance is definitely shifted toward the suspense.

The story opens with CIA-analyst-turned-explosives-field-expert Julia Torrison and former-SEAL-turned-CIA-operator Conrad (Con) Flynn on an undercover mission in Germany to flush out and eliminate an arms dealer. The mission ends in a fiery explosion with Con in the middle of it and Julia is yanked back to Langley and given a new identity and job as an analyst in the CIA’s Counterterrorism Centre to protect her from enemies made in the field. But all is not as it seems and Con’s ‘death’—which Julia blames herself for, since she prepped the explosives—is part his elaborate plan to protect her and go deep undercover to hunt down a mole within the CIA that threatens to bring the Agency down. All the evidence points to Julia’s new lover and boss, and so Con must break cover after seventeen months to recruit his former lover and partner to help him investigate her current lover and bring down the traitor. Misdirection, subterfuge, disparate agendas, spy-on-spy spying, and attempts to frame and/or kill the good guys ensue and make for an intense, high-stakes game of cat and mouse that is well written and superbly paced. The CIA mole is chillingly Machiavellian with multiple backup plans to ensure a favourable outcome for a plan over a decade in the making but feels completely realistic, keeping the reader engaged and turning pages to see if (and how) the mole will get his/her comeuppance.

Whilst the action and suspense portions of the book were well done, the weakest link in the story for me was the romance. The love triangle is an extremely tough sell for me—a matter of personal preference—but props to Ms. Evans for making the reasons believable and the emotion genuine. When your partner and lover of five years is (supposedly) blown up in an explosion of your own making and a solid, all-around great bloke helps you piece your life back together, falling for him is inevitable. The sudden reappearance of the supposedly dead love of your life—who’s been keeping an eye on your for the past 17 months—is bound to bring back old feelings and cause significant confusion, and Ms. Evans does a good job portraying that. But since both of Julia’s romantic relationships developed before the start of the book, little page time is devoted to them, which made it hard for me to become emotionally invested in either relationship or feel like there was much relationship development. Part of that probably comes from my feelings about Julia: whilst I liked her well enough as a character (highly intelligent, kickass, with a tough past and a great reason to have chosen her career path—what’s not to like?), her behaviour in the context of the love triangle drove me mad. The flip-flopping and ‘whom should I choose?’ nature of triangles likely draws many readers to the trope, but it generally gives me reader whiplash, and this was definitely the case with Julia’s. I also found the two male vertices of the triangle to be almost laughably cliché: the edging-on-loose-cannon badass love of her life vs. the rock-solid good guy you bring home to meet your parents, complete with an all-out brawl to settle their claim on Julia.

Overall, OPERATION SHEBA was an enjoyable romantic suspense read that will delight readers who enjoy their thrills and espionage with a touch romance and creates a well-crafted world full of intriguing characters whose stories—the other books in the Super Agent series—will likely be equally satisfying reads.

Operation Sheba definitely did not disappoint. There are spies galore--primarily CIA with some FBI thrown in--and a SEAL task force and female sniper (!) tossed in for good measure. The CIA mole is dastardly and completely without a conscience--and creepily well-prepared with backup plans for their backup plans. There's misdirection and attempts to frame the good guys, and...yeah, it was total catnip in so many ways. The big takedown at the end was all I could have hoped for, and our heroine here is smart, resourceful, and refuses to take any crap from anyone. She's awesome.

The action and suspense portions of this book are fantastic.

The romance, though? Less page time is devoted to it--a lot of the development of both romances (yeah, it's a triangle--not my favorite--but the reasons for it here are better than most so I didn't really mind that aspect so much) occurs before the novel begins. We see a little bit of them in flashbacks, but it's not quite enough to get the reader fully invested in their awesomeness. I enjoyed that aspect of the novel, but it didn't feel as real as the action and suspense bits.

And I'm still not convinced Julia made the right choice in the end.

Though the fact that the spurned guy gets his own book--eventually; because darn it, it's not book two in the series--does make me feel somewhat better.

Still...

Ah, well, it's her (fictional) life. I'm sure she'll be (fictionally) happy in it, right? ;)

Meanwhile, I'm totally going to pick up that other guy's book. Soon--because I definitely need a Super Agent fix.

This was my first book by Misty Evans and I loved it. I tend to enjoy books like this in general - men in power that sometimes have to straddle the line of what is legal/lawful for the sake of whomever or whatever they are saving. I also love a strong heroine that can hold her own and Julia is that! This book had a love triangle in it, but not in a typical sense. You saw the love triangle from the beginning so there was no build up there, but I liked it. I enjoyed the characters and they all seemed to be real/developed well enough that they all acted the way you would expect, which is good and I never had to question any of their decisions/actions. I was worried that the book might be too long when I looked at the number of pages, as sometimes longer books seem to be filled with fluff, but this one had me reading every word and it all seemed relevant to the story. My favorite scenes were definitely of Julia and Conrad's private moments where you could see the love for each other (I am a sucker for that stuff). The intimate scenes were nicely done and appropriate throughout the book. The character Ace was a hoot. Everyone needs an Ace in their lives. The scene where Julie is in the car talking to Conrad and Smitty (she knows she is bugged and they can hear her) is a hoot. Julie is just perfectly matched for Conrad and you can’t get enough of them. I look forward to reading more about Michael in the future because I was rooting for him, too. I would highly recommend this book and I look forward to reading the others in the series!

Julia and Con are more than just partners in the CIA they have become lovers. This time Con may have taken on the wrong terrorist group. The Berlin assignment ends tragically and Julia is called back to Langley to recover and change her identity and job. She no longer works the field but is one of the CIA's top terrorist analyst. She is recovering from her last assignment, has settled into her new persona and is even dating her Boss Michael tho they keep their relationship strictly business at work, no lunches together nothing to make tongues wag. Just as their relationship starts to solidify and Julia now known as Abigail has settled into her new life and job, a few ghosts from her past pop back up in her life.

There are enough twists and turns to keep you guessing about what will happen next. Who will win the game that has been ten years in the making?

The characters are believable and the bad guy is truly bad one that makes you wish you could help Julia put an end to this game once and for all.

This is the first book by Misty that I have ever read, and it is safe to say it will not be my last.

If you like espionage, intrigue and thrills with a bit of romance then this is the book for you.

Julia and Conrad are CIA agents. Partners for 5 years on and off the field. When a bomb prematurely detonates in Germany leaving Conrad dead and Julia in a state of shock, she is brought back to the states and given a new identity. Michael Stone is Julia's saviour, picking up the pieces of her broken heart, giving her a home and an new job in the agency, she finds peace and love with him. 18 months later Conrad shows up alive and with information that there is a mole in the agency and all the intel he has points to Michael as the mole. Julia is shocked to se her former lover alive and ends up torn between the man who saved her and the man she once loved but can't trust.

This book is fast paced, full of action and has many layers. The research involved must have been intense! I loved the multilayered plots and subterfuge. The romance part is a slow boil but when it hits it's fast and hard. I have read many of Misty's books and this is one of my favourites so far.

This was a really great romantic suspense! The characters are super spies, so it is definitely full of suspense. I think they really took the spying to the next level because they have to spy on spies to clear their name and save the entire country and the CIA. Misty Evans did a marvelous job with this book. The characters are some of my favorites! Julia is a phenomenal character! She is very complex and witty, and it's really no wonder why she has a couple of awesome guys battling for her. Speaking of awesome guys, this book is full of them. There is at least one of just about every type of super spy in this book, and that really adds to the surprising and really interesting story. Flynn could be considered the muscles, Smitty the tech nerd, and Stone the smart leader. I shouldn't forget to mention Ace the wheelman either. He was fun too! These are definitely the type of characters I want to see more of! However, that's not all. I want more of the story too! I was on the edge of my seat for this whole book! It was full of suspense and action and it was done extremely well!

I loved this book; it is going to be a great series! If you like romance, suspense, and action then you need to read this book. I stayed up reading this book all night because I just could not put it down. When I got to the end of a chapter, something else happened and I had to read what was next, before I knew it I was finished reading it. I love the characters in this book! Julia was a CIA agent, when her mission was blown and her partner died, they pulled her back to the United States, and gave her a new identity. Now seventeen months later, she is visited by Conrad her dead partner and ex lover. She learns that Conrad faked his death to go undercover to save Julia’s life and find out who the mole is in the CIA. Now that Conrad is back they must work together to find the mole, and try and stay alive. I can’t wait until the next book in this series comes out, I want more!

Julia Torrison works for the CIA. Now she is an analyst but before that she was a covert operative with the code name of Sheba. She was very good at what she did. After the death of her partner, Conrad, she rebuilt her life. She assumed a new identity. She is now Abigail Quinn. Danger has found her again. Conrad is alive. He faked his death. An unknown enemy has targeted her and her fellow agents. Will this evil succeed? Who is the mastermind? Misty Evans has written a suspenseful and intriguing story. All the characters are strong and compelling. I especially enjoy that Julia is feisty heroine who can save herself as well as those she cares about. Conrad is a loner but he has one weakness, Julia. He is charming in his own way, gutsy and determined. Together they are unstoppable. Their interaction is intense and very sensual. I love this first book in the Super Agent series. Readers will enjoy the twists and turns. I know I was hooked.

This book really surprised me. I got it as a free download for my Kindle because I like thrillers with a little romance thrown in the mix. This book certainly fit the bill.

Julia/Abigail is a complex woman who has overcome a horrific childhood to become the CIA's top counter-terrorist analyst. Trained by the best she has had to overcome the death of her partner and lover Conrad. Now she's finally beginning to belive in happy endings and her world is turned upside down again. Is her new lover the mole that has been sending field agents to their death? Or is he another pawn in someone elses game? And who will win Julia/Abigail's love in the end?

At first I thought too much was given away too early, but the book still kept me going with the twists and turns. Nothing to difficult, but still a good read for the genre.

I've read other books by this author and was excited to read this one.
Misty's writing is intense and full of edge on your seat action. It's very hard to put the book down until you've read it all. The characters walk off the page and pull you along on a life and death CIA adventure, with enough twist and turns to keep you guessing. But it doesn't stop there. Our heroine must work with a past love that she thought was dead, and a friend who became a lover. Sexual tension flies as choices must be made...their lives and their hearts depend on it. If you love suspense with hot spicy chemistry between the characters, you'll love this book.

Don't miss this fabulous CIA thriller by Misty Evans! It's an exciting page turner of an adventure with a plot that had me reading furiously until the very end. Ms. Evan's characters were absolutely fantastic, much more than that---they were real. Conrad Flynn is a hunky hero that you'll be in love before you've finished the first chapter. And his heroine, Julia Torrison is the very lady you'd consider yourself lucky to have for a best friend.

Like I said, don't miss this fabulous adventure by Misty Evans---you're going to love it!

This book blew me away resulting in a book hangover a few mornings. I highly recommend reading this one. It has everything from suspense, murder, love, second chances, intrigue, betrayal, and spice. I feel for Julia thinking the love of her life is dead and then he's thrown back into her life when she's finally moving forward. The chase is on to find the CIA traitor before it costs Julia her life. Julia is a strong character she's perfect heroine material. For Flynn he has some making up to do, but he is one yummy character.

4.4 Star Review – Operation Sheba (Super Agents, Book 1)

I recommend this book.

This book is jam packed full of suspense and a real page turner.

Julia and Conrad were in love already in the beginning but after he died she was sucked into another life.

Conrad is in fact alive and needs Julia's help.

Can she trust and love him again after he faked his own death?

Or will he just get her killed in the end.

I felt it was more suspense than romance but still a great read.

Strong characters throughout the story keeps the pages turning and keeps the reader invested in the story.

"Operation Sheba" is the first book in the Super Agent series and this book was a great way to start it. Julia Torrison, code name Sheba works for the CIA and former SEAL Conrad Flynn, code name Solomon was her partner and lover. Seventeen months ago after a mission was blown, Conrad is dead and Julia now spends her days at the CIA headquarters. Conrad visits Julia and she finds out that he faked his own death to save her life, there is a an Agency mole and he has to be stopped.
This is romantic suspense at its best, full of suspense, action, romance, lies, secrets and more.

Never heard of this author before, but now I plan to read her other books. The plot was intense and fast paced, and I found myself not wanting to put the book down. CIA, counterterrorism, romance = awesome! Julia and Conrad are a great partnership, and I'm looking forward to the other books in the series, to find out what happens with some of the other characters.

OMGosh, this was a great read and to think I bought this book on a whim! Yaaaay! I loved it.

I was very impressed with the author's attention to detail regarding the CIA and there was romance( a woman in love with two exceptional men) and the characters were quite believable. I was more into Director Stone than the bad boy, Conrad Flynn. LOL!

GREAT read and now I'm going to buy book 2 of the series.

Disappointment for this book. We knew who the bad guys were within the first 50 or so pages. The love triangle was poor at best. The only good thing was the suspense of the hostage situation. But even with that there was just so much fluff added in that rezlly didn't need to be and could have shortened the pages of this overall book.

I like this author so I will give the next book a chance to be read. But if it is as bad as this one, then I'll have to scratch reading the rest of this series.

I got about a quarter of the way in, and it seemed like a pretty good spy novel but a poor romance. Then, I realized about 50 pages later that there was absolutely no mystery in the book at all. No tension. You knew who the bad guys were, you knew it had to turn out okay, and nothing was compelling at all.
