After Emma Davis’s first week at Danvers International, she’s convinced her boss will drive her crazy…
Being the assistant to uptight workaholic Brant Stone is more than Emma can bear. But in her weaker moments, she can’t help but admit that the sexy control freak can turn her on with an insult more than any man she’s ever met...
So when Emma gains an unexpected advantage, she blackmails Brant into accompanying her to her high school reunion. After all, the enemy she knows is preferable to a blind date arranged by her meddling mother.
But before they realize what’s happening, they are doing more than acting the part…they’re living it. The war that has been raging between them shifts playing fields to the bedroom, as hate turns to lust and then to something so much more…
***I received this book in exchange for an honest review***
I fell in love with Danvers earlier this year, and since then have been blessed to be able to call Sydney a friend. An incredibly talented friend with uber sexy men in her noggin. The 5th installment to the Danvers collection comes to readers December 2nd, 2014. Agony, right? The wait is nuts. Let me tell you, from first hand experience, Brant and Emma's story is worth the wait.
Before I dive into my review, yes - you guessed it! A list of what is to come:
What would you do if your Mom was a part of a book club who called themselves 'the Smut Loving Wenches' and was rallying for your at boob job (that you don't want!) A drug sniffing dog fighting with a dildo while trying to exit a plane Finding out your boss was Mr. December in a sexy calendar during college Friends whose motto's are: "If you can't be with the one you love... get spanked by the one you're with?" Constant requests to transfer to a department that didn't include Brant Stone! A group of friends like Beth, Ella, Claire and Suzy who helped her come to the conclusion about Brant, and she told him: "We've all talked about it and agreed. You are completely fuckable until you open your mouth." Emma has been working under Brant for quite some time now, and while constantly trying to get transferred to another department - he continues to deny her transfer. Everyone around see the constant fighting between the two as a hilarious form of foreplay. The only thing the two will admit is their physical attraction of the other. (And that admission is only to themselves!)
The friendships formed at Danvers continue to be my favorite part of this series. Suzy continues to be a riot, and her friendship with Emma is not lacking in the snark department. "All right, no more. I already hate you for having a husband that sexy. Telling me he's some kind of sex god only makes me want to unfriend you on Facebook and walk away when i see you at the office." Anyone else might have been offended by her statement, but Suzy only threw her head back and laughed. When Emma comes across a rather flattering picture of her boss, she realizes it is just what she needs to solve all her problems. With one look at the he has agreed to accompany her to the school reunion and she is sure this off hours time together will be the final push he needs to sign the transfer. The girls warned her! He is a hottie, and we already know there is something in the air at Danvers - and it smells a lot like love. While we know what is to come, it doesn't mean they don't fight it tooth and nail. Her mouth fell open in shock when he quickly responded, "What I would really love to do is spank your ass until it shines, but I guess I'm fucked." "I don't think you're supposed to say stuff like that to your assistant unless you're working in a brothel or something." Brant quirked a brow at her. "Since when have we ever been concerned with what we say to each other? I don't think you should say stuff to your boss like 'blow me' either, but that has never stopped you before." Brant pulls out all the stops with Emma. He participates in her Mom's book club meeting of Fifty Shades of Gray, he pins a flower to her dress for the reunion, goes paddle boarding and gives her the space she needs when tragedy hits hard. Danvers is such a tight family that even with all the heartache that happened in this installment, you can't help but hope for a job there when you put the book down. I am not sure where the series is going next, but I hope for my sanity that Ava gets her story. You get to know her a little bit more in Brant's story - and I need her to find her HEA. Plus, it will keep me close to Brant and the Danvers crew and able to see how Emma's transfer is holding up! As always, Sydney Landon offers up another FIVE STAR romance with her FIFTH installment. Great read!
Real rating 3.5/5 I don't know how I really feel about this book?!?! Like it's really OVER THE TOP and close to what you can expect from indie published novels. No filters. Crude jokes that are sometimes yikes and sometimes really funny. The book dragged towards the end and it was blahhhhhhhhhh the angst and drama was even dragged and stuff just randomly happened????? I just love trash I guess because I still enjoyed it and died laughing at some moments. Laughed even more at the narrator who tried to yell but also not yell when the character got really agitated
First let me start off by saying… I never think Sydney can outdo a previous book in my beloved Danvers Series… but when I read Fighting for You I fell in love with Brant Stone (which shocked the hell out of me) because I was head over heels in book boyfriend love with Declan(Brant’s brother.) I now know why I was smitten with Brant from the beginning. He is always so hostile and sheltered, and like most describe him in the other books in the series, he has a stick up his ass. I love that Emma and Brant both give as much as they get. When work situation’s turn into more intimate settings the feelings start to change. Sydney uses her humor to set the stage and I swear the woman could make a career as a freaking stand-up comedian! I was very lucky to get one of the ARC’s for this book, but it is no surprise that I will also be buying this book. It is amazing, and the ending is what makes it all the better. I laughed, I cried, and I laughed so hard I cried. Some of the topics are sad but the outcomes always show the best of everyone. This book is so real, it shows you that not everything is a fairy tale but that in the end you get your happily ever after. I devoured this book in one day… which says a lot because I run a blog, stay at home with a one year old, and try to keep the house clean…. I urge you to pick up this book… You will get a great scene with a pink toy (read it to find out.) If I could Sydney I would give this amazing book 5 million stars. Best book of the series yet.
I absolutely LOVE this series and No Denying You was a great addition. I loved getting to know Emma and Brant. I did think that Brant started out as a bit of an ass, but as the story goes on my feelings for him changed. I loved Emma completely. She was quick witted and sassy. She was a girl with a lot of spunk and knew how to give as good as she got. The banter between her and Brant was so funny, I was laughing out loud on many occasions. Plus when she got together with Suzy….that was just funny. The best part was after an emergency root canal…I am not going to say anything more because you have to read that scene yourself. It is totally worth it to get this book just for that scene alone, but you won't be disappointed with the rest of the book either.
This is definitely a series I would recommend to everyone. They are fun, sexy and easy reads, that will have you falling in love with all the characters.
I've been a fan of Sydney Landon after reading the First Danvers story, Weekend Required. It's always a treat reading her books, it won't get you bored. Her characters are well developed. Brant and Emma, The Boss and his assistant, respectively. These two can't be together in one room; they just can't take one another. But the banter and the sarcasm are just hilarious. But when Emma got invited to her high school reunion and needs a pretend boyfriend Brant is the willing participant. During those pretend times are just too good to be true. HOT scenes between these two are just plenty. From this part the story won't let you go until you reach the last page.
The sparks between Brant and Emma flew left and right as the sexual chemistry between this dynamite couple ramped up and electrified the entire office. From their snarky banter, to humorous foreplay, this couple had it all. Lust, grit, humor and love, whether they wanted to admit it or not. They say it's always the quite ones who will rock your world and Brandt does that with ease both in and out of the bedroom. Read More. . . http://www.blackravensreviews.com/aut...
4.5 stars This book was awesome. First half was hilarious. Serious rolling on the floor. Especially the airport scene. Second half was a bit serious. But no issues.
I’ve never read a book by Sydney Landon and I’m starting to wonder why. I’ll say this is one of my new authors for the month of December and she’s well worth the risk.
Landon continues her Danvers series, book number five, with an enemies to lover’s trope. Who loves hero and heroine at each other’s necks until they fall in love and don’t expect it? Everyone, of course, including me. From the get go the characters are getting under each other’s skin, but both of them love doing it… a little too much.
Our hero, Brant, is a stuck up, prude of the first order so when the heroine, Emma, remembers him from a sexy fraternity calendar pose in college, she decides to capitalize on the inside information and blackmail her boss into being her date for her high school reunion. Because outside of being stuck-up and annoying this guy is, and I quote (from the book): ‘perfectly f***able until he opens his mouth.’ —words our lovely heroine utters to his face.
Surprisingly, our lovely hero sticks in for the long haul, which turns into some unforgettable, scorching encounters. In the course of a day or two, both Emma and Brant are doing less of being annoying to each other and more about how they can be nice and make this whole thing last beyond one crazy weekend.
I loved the first half of this book, the sexual tension building to insane levels and some hijinks that bared repeating to at least three people over the phone. Yes, I literally told three people about this book over the phone. Both characters were refreshing and their characters changed in appropriate stages. Compared to the insanity of the beginning of the book, the second half fell a little flat and then there were a couple of things that shocked me, but not in a fun and crazy way. Sorry, no spoilers. I’ll only say that the book is polar opposites when it comes to hilarious first half and not-so-hilarious second half. A roller coaster of emotions, which made it hard for me to believe in the HEA at the end.
Overall, I’m interested in reading more from Landon. This book had some moments I won’t forget and at the very least it will be a book that will stick in my mind for a long time. If you enjoy books that do that I recommend this one. For fans of Victoria Dahl.
No Denying You is the 5th novel in the Danvers series. This series is based on a group of friends and family that all work together and are lucky in finding love within their workplace or with business acquaintances. This novel features Emma, Brant's assistant, and Brant. These two have quick tongues when it comes to tossing remarks towards each other and we witness the headaches they both give the other. Brant is precise, organized, and uptight while Emma has her own system of organization that I believe revolves around driving Brant crazy. Emma has to go home for her high school reunion and needs to bring a date. Enter Brant once Emma blackmails him with a "month" from his past that he wants no one discovering. Here's where the heat between the sheets begins. Brant is genuine and dedicated to doing right by Emma, and hearing how he breaks down his decisions allows us witness his honesty, sincerity, and laying the cards out there. Emma runs through a wide range of emotions throughout this novel and we're graced with Brant's strength and awareness to help see Emma through some extremely difficult times. I am caught up in this Danvers clan and find myself looking forward to seeing the previous novels' main characters hold such valuable roles in the current main characters lives as well as getting brought to the present on current happenings in their own relationships. I look forward to Syndey's next installment in the Danvers series: Always Loving You, which releases the beginning of February 2015. Give this a try and find your next book crush!
Good lord Brant the things that come out of your naughty mouth, "her mouth fell open in shock when he quickly responded, "what I would really love to do is spank your a** until it shines, but I guess I'm just effed." His innuendos are really hot, "his eyes drifted over her white shorts and turquoise off-the-shoulder top. "You look pretty laid back yourself. I like that top. A lot." Emma felt her face flush at his unexpectedly flirtatious words." He knows how to woo his girl, "God, you're turning me on. One more nasty comment from you and I'll have you lying on your desk with your panties on the floor and my c*** driving hard inside you." I really enjoyed this book I loved Brant.
I really wanted to like this book. I love a good enemies to lovers story but this one just fell a bit flat for me. I liked the chemistry between Brant and Emma but some of their actions bothered and annoyed me. Honestly, I can't even figure out how to put in to words what I'm feeling right now. There were times when the characters seemed to act out of place for me. Their actions would kind of come out of left field and it left me scratching my head wondering how or why that just happened.
There is one thing I adore about Sydney Landon's books, she never just gives you a fluff piece full of filler. She always has a lot of plot twists and turns in her books. So many romance books today are just sex with no storyline or conflict. I loved Brant and Emma and the sexy, playful dynamics between them. This book was laugh out loud funny at times, sad at others and just plain amazing as always. I can't wait for Mac and Ava's story. As usual, well done Sydney!
I came across the Danvers series last week and given that I loved the Lucian & Lia series, I knew I'd probably like this one. The only problem was that the audio book site my library uses started the series with this book and didn't have the previous ones. That being said, this book can definitely be read as a standalone without being completely confused. Previous couples/characters are mentioned in this one and we get glimpses into their lives now, but they're not the focus.
The first third of this book was incredibly hilarious. I had to stop and repeat several scenes back to my husband and his response was 'What kind of book are you reading? That sounds like a movie I'd watch.' So that should tell you something. I found myself laughing out loud many times and just shaking my head at the misfortunes and banter between Brant & Emma.
But then it loses some of that humor when they actually hook up and turns into a typical boss to employee book, at least for me it seemed that way. Brant becomes an idiot and shuts Emma out. They both second-guess each other's feelings and that leads to some issues that could have been avoided had they communicated. Of course, the whole boss/employee thing complicates their relationship. It's not like some where the big boss is seeing an employee who he has no contact with on a regular basis. No, he's her boss and she's his assistant, so they're around each other all the time.
Then there's the whole ex situation thrown on top of their budding relationship. Brant was a oblivious idiot for how he handled the whole ex situation. I know he's a compassionate person and fixer, but when you're seeing someone else, you don't let another woman live at your house or show up at your office all the time.
At the end of the book, things get really serious and heartbreaking. I had tears in my eyes and couldn't believe that turn of events. Was it necessary? Probably not, but it did bring Brant & Emma closer together and helped her see how great of a guy he was.
In the end, they get their HEA and that initial proposal is hilarious (queue famous JT SNL skit), but of course he wises up and makes the proper sweet proposal. I can't wait to continue on with the series, even though I know this next book is probably going to be even more emotional given the serious nature of what happened to Ava.
My one issue with this book was that he lied about nothing happening with his ex. She kissed him and even though the book said it was a peck..I think it still counts! Also didn't like how he selfishly left them both hanging and not knowing where they stood with him or anything. For someone so logical, his run away reaction didn't reflect that.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I absolutely loved Emma and Brant. Apart, they are great characters with such strengths. But together they are gold! I love their fire, their intensity, their banter, and their sexy foreplay.
I didn't like Emma. I didn't like Brad ex. Didn't like the stupid drama. Didn't like the supposed friendship between Emma and the girl...wasn't believable..
Very fun and enjoyable read. I read this book first in the series and after reading this one, it does make me want to go back and start the series from the beginning.
DNF I found The main female character so annoying I couldn’t finish the book. To be fair I only got 25% through before I had to put it down. I think this was a “it’s no you it’s me” situation.
