Before I even get started, I just have to say again how much I love Sea’s afterword she puts in at the end of her writings. As she states in this last one, reading allows the reader to share in the machinations/inner workings of the author’s mind, and Sharon always takes it that one step further, whether it be anecdotes, or the thought processes leading to or created by the final product. It’s truly something special.
Okay, spoiler free review time!
Boss Universe lore expansion, and multi-series crossovers/tie-ins!
This is a very different read to the previous instalments of the series thus far, focusing far less on the dark web shenanigans we’ve all grown so accustomed to (there’s an interesting bit of social commentary in that statement alone, that I feel borders on the subtext of this series a wee bit…).
If anything, this read might even be considered somewhat wholesome - but, in the best way.
As with the rest of the books in the BU, there is a very sardonic air about the writing and approach to subject matter, but there is a big contrast to the apathetic nonchalance or flippant disregard to human suffering, by shedding more light into interpersonal connections, as well as the lowering of guards and constructs due to comfort and/or familiarity.
All in all, this was a fun read, that was delightfully surprising in how far removed it was from, especially the last entry to the series. I can’t wait to see where this world will take us next.
