40 years ago, the Corsican Empire invaded Earth, just in time for Emperor Justinian's Golden Jubilee.
Now, in 2675, the Resistance rises again, but the enemy strikes first, taking fighter pilot Lieutenant Jacob Mercer by surprise. As he flies out to meet the enemy, he learns of the existence of a secret that could change the course of the war.
A secret that might mean a quick end to the fighting, or a quick death for them all.
Against the Rising Force is a short story of approx. 5200 words, or about 25 pages, and is the first in the short story trilogy Prelude to Resistance, which paves the way for The Pax Humana Saga, a ten part series of novels set for release in March 2014.
At work, I think up ways to thwart terrorists with science. No, really. In my spare work time, I also pitch space missions to NASA. Somewhere in between all that and 2 cute little terrorists at home, I write fiction--mainly science fiction, especially the kind that goes "PEW PEW!" I started publishing my books 3 years ago, and was humbled and honored to appear recently on the USA Today Bestseller list.
I was born in Seattle and bounced around between California, Argentina, Utah, and New Mexico before finally arriving here in Rocket City, Alabama.
I read this book as part of the "Galactic - Ten Book Space Opera Sci-Fi Boxset." This was a very short intro to the Pax Humana series. It was a good bit of foreshadowing and an intro to characters that, I assume, a will play a role in the coming series.
I debated between a four and a five because the story is so short, the great writing of this compelling story left me no choice as it is definitely a five. I wish it was longer, but great writing is great writing, so... I loved it! Jacob Mercer is a fighter pilot, the reader will meet others in his squad and follow them through battle and also through their lives. Great action with an interesting soy to go with it.
