Murder in Paradise

Rate this book
Overlooking the waters of the Biscayne Bay sits a mansion where all hell has broken loose.

A shadow passed by the driver’s side window, then the sound of breaking glass, small pieces hitting my back and arm. I jerked around, at the same time reaching for the Glock attached to my thigh. The last thing I saw were the bursts of electricity flashing before my eyes…

In Deborah Brown’s newest novel, Madison Westin must piece together the clues to solve a murder and save her best friend, Fabiana, from a lifetime behind bars. Smart, sexy, and thrilling, Murder in Paradise will leave you begging for more.

The description of the book states that the Florida Keys has everything for your perfect vacation. But this book focusses on anything but. This book includes mystery, murder, and a countless number of unique and quirky characters. Last, but not least is the heroinne's psycho mother!

There was some profanity, which personally I abhor. There was also some very mild sexual content. If you prefer a clean and wholesome read, this is not the book for you. However, if you don't mind some mature content, this may be for you.

On a positive note, there are some likable characters. The heroine has a dependable network of friends and associates. The story is fast-paced and the scenes are descriptive. However, things that bothered me far outway that morsel of goodness. You feel a compulsion to keep reading, even though you know that it will probably leave a bad taste in your mouth.

The use of profanity was low but too much for my taste. The heroine was clearly not able to manage on her own - especially while her life was in danger, but insisted on doing so anyway (spurning the assistance of trained security officers).

The sexual scene was not explicit, but the insinuations about sex were way too much.

Murder in Paradise by Deborah Brown is a 2014 Paradise Publishing, LLC publication. I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Madison is back for another screwball adventure, only this time it's a lot more personal. Fab is in deep trouble and it will take all of Madison's investigative skills and charm, plus some help from all her friends and family to keep Fab out of a prison cell.

Valuable art , ex- husbands, and murder- just what Madison needs on top of her tumultuous personal life. Zach still hates Fab being roomies with Madison and still hates Madison's career choices. The two are still arguing about the direction their relationship should go and Madison is still finding herself sorely tempted by Creole.

I have to say this was the very best book in the series to date. These characters have really developed over time and the plot in this one was really, really absorbing. All the characters I have come to know and love are back and play their respective roles perfectly. Madison's mother and Brick tickles my funny bone and I have to say I might have tiny crush on Creole.

There was a lot going on, but the pacing was timed so well, it flowed seamlessly. The humor was top notch and the adventure and action is non-stop. There were a few startling developments and stunning revelations along the way and I can not wait to see how things turn out in Madison's personal life. If you have been following this series you do not want to miss this one!! If you haven't been reading this series.... what are you waiting for? 5 stars

I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Murder in Paradise is a humorous cozy mystery novel with quirky characters that will keep you entertained throughout the novel. Madison resides with her best friend Fabiana in The Cove, located in sunny South Florida. Madison owns and operates the apartment community they live in, as well as doing side jobs for Fabiana's boss "Brick". Life gets interesting when Fabiana's ex husband returns and turns up dead. Madison will stop at nothing and will put her life on the line to prove her best friend's innocence.

I always enjoy a good mystery, especially one that immediately draws me in and keeps me engrossed. I loved the crazy names and antics each character got into, I spent a lot of time laughing at the outrageous circumstances that came up. I have never read any of this series before but after reading this, I think I will go back and read the others in the series. Deborah Brown has made a new fan out of me! Please note, although this was book four, it can be read as a standalone.

Here we are again in the Keys with Madison and Fab in their crazy world. Even though this is the 4th book in the series it can be read as an individual as the author explains and clarifies what has happened in the previous stories.

It is amazing how the author can keep providing new escapades and adventures which keep the reader enthralled and the story moving forward. We fall more in love with Maddison, feel sorry for Fab and learn more about Maddison's family, plus the fact that even though Maddison thinks she is in charge the real power is her mother.

This story revolves around the murder of Fab's ex-husband who has returned to try and find the hidden booty from previous criminal endeavors. Fab is framed and it is a race against time to find the real murderer. This takes us on a real roller coaster ride full of violence, sex and back handed IOUs.

The characters have become more humane and made more life like which is testament to the author, I cannot wait for the next installment, keep them coming!

I swear Deborah Brown’s books get more and more fun to read. The overall mystery (the “murder in paradise”) is intriguing and keeps you guessing. But… what really makes the book so fun for me is the individual interactions. The non-stop chaos and insanity that Madison finds in her day to day life is amazingly unbelievable, in the best way. Off the wall jobs. Interesting payment plans. Random business to run. And just oddball and shocking turns of events on each and every page. You just never know what Madison is going to get herself into…. or who she’s going to pull into her adventures. I have to say the juggling of vehicles kept me amused in this book… and the repeated argument over who gets to drive. Loved it.

On top of a storyline that never stops moving… you’ve got Zach and Creole. Let me just say I wouldn’t want to be Madison when it comes to having the option of both of these men. There’s just no choosing.

I love a good action packed book and this one starts right off with action. It really hooks you from the first chapter and was a fast read. Madison and Fab have such a great friendship that it kind of made me jealous. To have a friend that will have your back in a very dangerous situation is awesome. I do not think I have read a book in a long time with so much action. I did not want to put the book down because I wanted to be sure everyone was still alive. There was even a part at the end of the book that shocked me. I usually see things coming but I did not see that coming in Madison's relationship with her boyfriend.

Deborah Brown is back with another winner! In Murder in Paradise Madison's friend Fab receives a blast from the past visit from her ex, who is fresh out of prison, and Not Happy with her. Things go from bad to worse when Fab ends up the prime suspect in a double homicide.

While Madison is trying to help her friend clear her name, hilarious hijinks ensue, of course.

The book ends with Madison reeling from a stunning revelation, and the loss of one of the two men who have been competing for her attentions since the very first book. I was left anxious to find out what happens next in book 5, Greed in Paradise. I love this series!

This fast paced book of Deborah Brown is a good stand alone, and the first I read in this series. It's nice to see powerful and empowering women take the lead in a novel. Follow Madison as she untangles the problems with her beach property, and deals with her mother with work. Madison is every woman as she deals with car trouble and Brick, car trouble and her love life. Watch how things turn out with Creole, Fab, and intrigue. Remember, the title is Murder in Paradise, so there's that, and watch how Madison solves it all!!! I look forward to the follow up.

I had not read Deborah Brown Books before this one and now I must read the entire series! I absolutely loved this funny story that has characters that kept me intrigued and entertained from cover to cover. When Madison’s best friend’s husband is found dead, Madison’s mission is to prove her friend’s innocence. This mystery novel has so many adventures and chaos that I just couldn't put it down. This is a great story that kept me waiting to see what Madison get’s herself into next! I totally recommend this great read!

I have to admit Deborah Brown's Madison Westin series is my guilty pleasure. It's great to see what Madison and her best friend Fabiani, get themselves into. The usual cast of characters from the previous three books, Crazy in Paradise, Deception in Paradise and Trouble in Paradise are present and accounted for and as usual, they don't fail to bring comic relief to the read.

Just when you think it’s time for Madison to have time to enjoy her newest endeavor of restaurateur trouble strikes again, but this time its Fab who’s in the crosshairs. When Gabriel, Fab’s ex-con ex-husband an infamous cat thief, threatens both her and Madison’s families she has no choice but to give in to his demands to burgle upper class homes. Everything hits the fan for Fab when Gabriel and the owner of the home they just broke into are murdered and Fab is the prime suspect. On the run and working with Madison and their frenemy, super sexy cop Creole, they must find the killer before Fab spends the rest of her life in prison for a murder she didn’t commit.

In the middle of the investigation Madison and on-and-off again love interest Brick are trying to work out the logistics of their relationship. He wants a commitment and she isn’t quite ready leaving feelings raw and secrets revealed that could put the relationship to end.

To keep the story lighthearted as the Madison Westin series fans have come to expect, Deborah Brown has throw in humorous side plots including brother and sister addicts squatting at Clean Bubbles, a client’s car wash, and the usual mayhem at Madison’s Carpon Cove Cottages to round out the book, guaranteed to have you laughing.

Final thought: Looking for a fun read for the beach? This is the book to take with you.

Update: Guess what just arrived in my mailbox? Greed in Paradise, the next book in the Paradise series! Look for the review in the near future.

I love this series and the wonderful, quirky characters with strong females that are willing to take care of things themselves. Madison is not a stay home type of person. She loves getting in the middle of things and swapping favors. Of course, this isn't always a good thing. Trouble seems to follow her but she seems to always get out of it. Will this time be any different?

In addition, to all of the trouble, Madison needs to figure out her love life. In the first book, I was pretty much team Zach but as things have developed through the books that has changed. I'm more team Creole. I wouldn't want to date a controlling man that wants me siting at home all of the time. I'd prefer someone that will be there to help me and to support me. I know both have a habit of telling Madison not to do things but Zach seems to be in a more controlling manner, while Creole is more concerned about her safety. I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens.

I loved this book and this series. It was the perfect thing to lift me out of my funk. (I've been sick for over a month including a hospital stay.) This book put a big smile on my face. I couldn't put it down once I started. I can't wait to check out the next book in the series. Don't worry though, all of these books can be read as stand alone books. However, I think once you read this one you will end up getting all of the other books.

This is one of those murder mysteries that have me laughing, chuckling and smiling throughout the entire book. I mean how could you not with the characters in this series. Madison's Mom is the kind of Mom that can make you groan--thankful that your own Mom isn't like her (my condolences if she is). Her word is law and heaven forbid she is the last to know something!! Madison's brother-the supposedly only normal one in that family has a few surprises up his fisherman's sleeve and Lucas-(the teen who has been informally adopted)-well--lets just say NOTHING fazes him!!

Madison's best friend, Fabiana, gets into a mess this time around when her larcenous ex decides to come around with revenge on his mind. A Hummer is in this storyline--will Madison get to keep it? Madison's on gain off again boyfriend is just as demanding as ever--and the guy her Aunt (the one who left her the property) helped and informally adopted is just waiting for Madison to be free so he can step in all the while trying to save her from herself!!

I am eagerly awaiting the next in this series---this one certainly ends leaving you wanting to know more!!Murder in Paradise

4.5 STARS-

I loved this book even more than the first Deborah Brown book I reviewed, Trouble in Paradise.
I think part of it was that I knew the characters a bit and it helped me appreciate and understand who they were. The characters are so well fleshed out in both books and you can't help love them flaws and all. New characters are written so well into the story that they seem to have naturally been there all along.

As in Trouble in Paradise, there is plenty of action and "laugh out loud" moments in Murder in Paradise. I never felt like I was trudging through the story and was compelled to keep reading. Once again, there wasn't the feeling of wanting to skim parts of the book because of unnecessary fluff to fill pages. This book, as in the last, is lighthearted and fun-great for a cozy read during the winter.

Why 4.5 stars? This book, unlike the last, seemed to push more of the sexual content envelope than I personally like. I did feel that there were times when further description could have been eliminated.
And, I was kind of hoping the killer would have been more of a "what!?" moment instead of being predictable.

Murder in Paradise is the 4th in the Paradise Series by Deborah Brown. Although the murder mystery set around bad girl Fab, Madison's bestie, can be a standalone novella, I felt more invested having read others in the series. Background info helped me stay focused when background storyline meandered.

Fab and Madison are fun and funny, and Madison is a cool crime solver - stumbling into situations that she needs help extricating herself from in one piece. This time her friend is involved and in trouble.Fab's ex-husband is the murder victim and she is the suspect.

What I like about Brown is that she introduces incredibly zany characters with specific details and story lines that have humor and intrigue. I love to be able to laugh and stay invested in a story. This is that kind of story. While Madison is working the mystery by the skin of her teeth, she is also dealing with her own love life (two men) and her cigar smoking mom.

Putting characters in my mind that I won't forget and allowing an escape into something definitely unreal but still fun and just imaginable enough to maybe happen is a gift. Brown has that here.

I know I say this with every one of these books but they seriously keep getting better. Everytime I open the newest one, I am sucked right in and made to sit in amazement as I am taken on yet another wasky journey along with Madison and the rest of her gang! I love how Deborah Brown just continues to develop and create characters keeping the stories new and fresh.

This story finds Fab having to prove she didn't commit murder! Fab's actions have always been on the dark side but never have they gone as far as murder before. Madison has to race through time and even enlists her mother to help her investigate. Yes you read correctly! Madison's crazy, zany mom is her sidekick in this story!

If you have enjoyed the last couple of books, this one will be no surprise! I'm sure you won't be able to put it down either!

Disclaimer: There is a bit more sexual content this time around but I am not easily embarrassed or offended so I am still ok with it.

Deborah Brown’s Paradise series is my mystery obsession as much as Melissa Foster’s romance series are my romance obsession (and if you follow my blog and or book reviews – you know how crazy I am for Melissa’s romance books!)

I love Madison and Madeline! Fab is an added bonus and Creole… oh Creole!

Murder in Paradise is as much fun as the previous reads in this series, but as mentioned above; you do not need to have read the previous books to enjoy this one.

With the mystery there are always sure to be some giggles and then men tend to be quite the hunky men (I’m talking Brad, Zach, Creole…)

I do have to admit, I haven’t been a big Zach fan for the past couple books (I really, really liked him in the first one, maybe one and a half). He has seriously grown on my nerves and in Murder in Paradise, he deserved to be put in his place and I have to say, I was quite pleased with the ending as it pertains to Zach.

I really do look forward to more from Madison Westin (and of course Madeline and Fab!)

Murder in Paradise is book number four in the Paradise series and it is even better than the last! It has humor and characters that will have you laughing and smiling throughout the whole thing. Madison and Fabiana live together in The Cove in South Florida. This is where Madison runs and owns the apartment community that they both live in and she also does work for Fabiana’s boss. Fabiana’s ex-husband comes back into the picture and mixes things up a bit. There is nothing in these novels that is ever boring and ummm…in this one her ex-husband turns up dead. What?! So now Madison has to prove her friend’s innocence in the whole thing.

Mysteries with a little bit of humor have always been on my top favorites list and Deborah Brown has definitely wrapped me up in her series that I will be reading again and again. I love her characters and their personalities. Although, I do recommend reading all of the others too, but this one can be read as a standalone.

Murder in Paradise is a slam dunk. Twists and turns had me second guessing myself as I tried to solve the murder. I was so sure I had it, I didn't. All of my favorites players were back: Fab, Madison, Zach, Creole, and of course Jazz. Oh to be spoiled like Jazz!

Fab's ex-husband makes an apperance on the keys and boy does he bring the trouble. Fab is booked for a double murder, leaving Madison to use her mother as her wingman for her dubious private investigator jobs. Can't you just picture it? Momma Westin wearing all black slinking around hot wiring cars? I could never imagine my mother doing the same...Although Madison's own life mirrors mine in no way shape or form. Hers is much more action packed.

Are you dreaming of summer? Did you get hit by "the storm of the century"? Download a copy of Murder in Paradise and you'll be picturing yourself beach side in no time!

Come on down to the Florida Keys. We have beaches, fun, and MURDER for you. Deborah Brown once more brings us another Madison Weston adventure. In the fourth book of the Paradise series, we find Madison's best friend, Fabiana, in a major pickle when she is suspected in a murder. Even if you haven't read the first three books, you know Madison can't let this go. She is determined to get to the real truth. She must accomplish this feat while dealing with the crazy antics of the residents at her beach property, 2 different love interests, and then her MOM... there really is not a word to describe her MOM! This is a great read with some giggles, mystery, and a tad bit of romance. Whether you just read Murder in Paradise, or you catch all of the series... you will find yourself caught in the chaotic influence of Madison Weston!

Madison Westin is at it again! But of course, so is her best friend Fab. I really loved how we got to learn more about her & her sordid past. Of course it had to be because of a couple of murders, but that's to be expected now whenever Madison is involved.

Throughout the murder investigation though, I was more enthralled by the good cop, bad cop acts of both Zach & Creole. They both seemed to have their moments that made you want to root for them & I have to admit that I was Team Zach from the beginning. But after an ending like that, Team Creole all the way!

Oh & that murder that Fab found herself smack dab in the middle of... Yep, I didn't see that one coming at all! Which of course made me go back & read the entire thing again to see if I just missed it completely, or if it was just written that good. It was just written that good!

Another great adventure with Madison,Fab and company. This time around, they are working overtime to keep Fab out of prison. And considering Fab's antics, it is not an easy assignment.

The further I go into this series, the more well developed the characters are becoming, which makes them even more enjoyable. There is plenty of action and humor in this story again, as well. It's a real page turner that you don't want to put down.

I'm a little turned off by the sexual content in this book, which went a little further than in the previous ones. For me, there are some things I just don't want to read.

If you’re going to have trouble constantly following you, it might as well be in Paradise. This book grabs hold of you from the very first page. I mean, how many stories start off with buying your mother a humidor for her favorite Cuban cigars as a birthday gift, then it being stolen in a carjacking? And that’s before turning to page 2.

It seems this series just gets better and better with each installment. I absolutely love reading all the exploits of Madison and company. This time around, there’s more appearances by Brad and mother Madeline. It was fun paring their personalities with Madison’s. I would love to see this series turned into movies, or a television series. That would be awesome!

Florida is one of my bucket list. I do not know when can I delete it. I hope someday. Reading Ms. Deborah Brown's Murder In Paradise gives me a view about Florida and its treasures. This is my first time to read her book too and definitely not my last.

This book makes me laugh. It is fun to read. It makes you smile and at the same time the feeling of adrenaline that you want to find out who is the murderer. Reading suspense book is my second favorite genre. This book never disappointed me.

I love Madison and cannot wait to learn more about her in the next book. Do you like suspense? I highly recommend this to everybody who loves to keep their heart thumping while you are turning each page.

This was another great book by Deborah Brown! I really am enjoying these books, even though I've been reading them out of order. This is part of a series but you can easily read it on it's own as a stand alone. Madison and Fab keep the action going in Murder in Paradise and have quite the crazy situation to try to work their way through! Mystery, murder, a private island.....it has all the makings of an intriguing story! This is a pretty quick read (because of some pretty hot scenes and the fact that you don't want to put it down) which would be great for a nice weekend, a break from reality or (when it's warmer) a nice poolside vacation!

After reading a number of heavy-hitting advance reader books, I decided I needed a break with something light and silly. Murder in Paradise is the fourth book in author Deborah Brown’s series set in the Florida Keys. I’ve been lukewarm on the series overall so far. The series seems to be much like Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series, but it is a bit more outrageous if that’s possible.

Madison Westin inherited her aunt’s home and cottage colony in Tarpon Springs. She was looking for some direction in her life when this landed in her lap. Ever since, she seems to be involved in crazier things. Her aunt knew a lot of people in town, and they operated on a currency of IOUs which Madison also inherited. In addition to the cottage colony, she also took over Jake’s Bar once he left town one step ahead of the loan sharks he owed money to, and is attempting the get her private investigator’s license with her best friend, Fab.

Fab’s past comes back to haunt her in Murder in Paradise. Her ex-husband has tracked her down after getting out of jail. He threatens Madison and her family if Fab won’t help him. The two were once cat burglars in France, with Fab having straightened out her life once he went to jail. Fab doesn’t want to go back to that life, but she is protective of Madison’s family as if they were her own.

When the ex-husband turns up dead at a crime scene where the homeowner was also killed, Fab seems to be the likely suspect. Adding to the conflict is Madison’s boyfriend, Zach, who would like nothing more than for Madison to give it all up and move in with him.

There's too much going on!

You need to meet and get to know some of the primary players in this gulf coast story. Miami is hopping when all these hoodlums, outcasts, and good guys hang out together.
Fab and Madison go on another murder solving spree and constantly need the support of friends and family. When they don't need them, they're constantly monitoring their behavior or helping them avoid arrests or their own murder.
This author is clever throwing so much crime, love, people, and good will into one book.
Here are some of the players you need to meet.
Zach. Clean cut, security firm owner but wow, surprise of the century at the end.
Creole, hot damn, good looking undercover cop.
Madison, scary risk taker, detective wannabe.
Mom. Cool lady in love with a guy with a colorful, not so legal history.
Liam, streetwise teen
Gabriel, thug, looser, deadbeat ex of Fab.
Fab, lady with attitude and a gun.
Spoon, mom's boyfriend and a lot more.
Slice problem solver, rescuer extraordinaire.
Many, many more great characters, including a couple of cats.

Used to love this series but this book contained sections that gave a different scenario than what was in a previous chapter. She was driving a Hummer but switched to an Escalade. In the next chapter she is driving a Mercedes which was a special car for a job, but while driving the Mercedes back to the dealership, she says she has to turn in the Hummer. No further mention of the Escalade. Then there is talk about Zach’s loft but she stayed at a place on the water. Was the author pumping these out so quickly that there were no continuity editors on board?

Rocking It PI Adventure!
This book is the 4th in a great series. The series should be read in order. Each book is a complete mystery, but the background stories build upon themselves with each book. The story takes place in South Florida and involves all sorts of low-level criminals, street people, and drunks. It also includes high-dollar theft, very rich people, and white-collar crime. At the center of this chaos are a young woman, her family, and their friends. I have been binge-reading the series and don't plan on stopping any time soon,
