Do you think women want to read fantasy books with adult characters? If your answer is “Yes”, you are in the right place.
My name is Jenny Swan and I love to write fairy-tale and fantasy books about women over 30. We all want to find a magical portal to another land, sail with a pirate over the sea, unleash our witch powers, and find the love of our lives. These exciting, heart-pounding fantasy stories feature heroines who are just like you and me — normal women who lead normal lives until something magical happens.
The first series you can dive into is called “Charms & Chocolate.” Mayla, who believes in chocolate but not in magic, discovers that she is a witch and has to escape violent young men who are out to get her. A mysterious stranger helps her, a charming police officer cautions her against him, and a cat just appears in time to help her.
This book had me SOBBING. I normally read smut, so this was meant to be just a palate cleanser which ended up being one of my favourite reads this year. Enchanted in Snow really is such a beautiful story. Don’t get me wrong, I was STRESSED tf out reading Evangeline embark on her journey to defeat her mother, the evil queen. Especially in the second half of the book. But that stress turned into tears, which then turned into a smile when the story concluded and we got our happy ending.
A retelling of classic fairy tales, the entire book gives Snow White vibes with an attempt at multiple timelines and worlds. Unfortunately, the timelines are a big miss and it just becomes confusing. Minimal character development, language is in the middle school level, but it's a quick read. Hopefully, the author develops more in her writing as she progresses.
I wanted to like this book. I really did. But there are confusing timelines and names and I can't really figure out what's going on by a third of the way through. It's just really not structured in a way that makes sense to me.
I got about 100 pages in before calling it quits. The storyline had potential, but I found myself immediately irritated by the female lead. She’s clearly meant to be a hardworking character, but then she randomly chases after a fox and almost makes herself late for work. Like, seriously? Who does that?
Then there are the constant mentions of her feet hurting, followed by her saying she can’t afford new shoes—yet she somehow manages to afford Pilates classes. The writing style itself was frustrating, focusing on details no one cares about. She can’t buy a jewelry box, but she can regularly attend Pilates? And every time she encounters a homeless person, she digs out a single coin. What is that coin supposed to do? Is it made of gold? She’s just annoying to me. The writing is flat and the story telling is boring as hell. This could have been a kids picture book and it would have been better.
Enchanted in Snow – Fairy Tale for Women: Magical Realism Meets Midlife Romance in a Frozen Kingdom
Enchanted in Snow – Fairy Tale for Women: Magical Realism Meets Midlife Romance in a Frozen Kingdom (The Enchanted After Thirty Series) ~~ This one felt like curling up with a warm blanket on a snowy night. The imagery was stunning, the snow-covered kingdom so vividly painted I could almost feel the chill. Beneath all the frost, there’s a tender romance about hope, resilience, and finding light when everything feels frozen. The heroine’s journey was relatable and empowering—proof that love and magic don’t have an expiration date. A slower, more introspective read, but every page was worth savoring. Beautifully done!
I hate leaving bad reviews but that was kind of painful. It says it's less than 300 pages but I felt like it took me forever to get through. I'm not sure if I want to say the writing is bad but it's more like a 5th grader with excellent writing skills tried to write a fairytale book. So...it just seemed super juvenile and would have been better as a children's book rather than "fairytale for women" because this is not at all good reading for adults. It almost seemed like the author was trying too hard to write well, but still fell flat...hence the 5th grader type writing.
