A Broken Beautiful Beginning

Rate this book
“Can’t live without you... I don’t want to be alone in the dark…”

Jace’s last words play in my head over and over as I lay in this dark trunk. I can hear his faint mumbling through the insulation of the backseat. I cry louder, asking for him to pull over, to let me out.
Praying for him to take me back to my baby girl.
Hitting my fists against the top of the trunk I scream and yell, but nothing… He continues to drive further and further away from my family.
I have just found my way back to Caleb. We are supposed to be a family.
I need him to find me, save me from the Beast Jace has become…
This was supposed to be our new beginning… we were meant to start fresh, a clean break.

They all said that Jace was a monster… a dangerous man that I should steer clear of but they had it all wrong.
It’s only when Raven comes out to play does he become the person so many fear.
I was so wrong to think I understood him.
No one understands him…
I thought I knew who he was but I had no idea the secrets he was keeping from me and the Club.
I should have listened to their warnings, should have taken their advice but I had been drawn to a broken soul and I thought I could mend it….fix him somehow.
After all is said and done, only one question remains…who will fix me when I break?

I kept my writing a secret for so long, not wanting anyone to know about this passion of mine but eventually all those stories needed to be put on paper (or online in my case), I wanted others to enjoy these carefully crafted characters and to possibly get a glimpse into my imagination.

The first book I released was Alexia Eden and I hope all of you young adult fans of fantasy or supernatural go out and have a read.

When I'm not working? I'm studying, writing or reading.

I write supernatural as well as young adult based books. You can find me on Facebook, Goodreads, Twitter, Instagram as well as keep up to date with news of my books on my blog.

Although my life is busy as ever, I will never complain or regret the path I've taken that directed me to where I am today. The lessons I've learnt and the people I've met along the way are my reasons for this. I work hard and write harder. Look me up sometime, even if it's just for a chat.

I love receiving emails and reviews of my books so please email me and send me links of your reviews. I may not have responded to your emails but please note that I really do appreciate all of you who have taken the time to email me with words of encouragement and advice. 4.5 BROKEN BEAUTIFUL STARS!
I had to actually let my mind settle on this one before I posted a review. This book has stuck with me and I thinking its because I feel like I need more.Harley has a way of finding trouble Whereever her ass takes her, poor girl. Being the daughter of a stripper and a M.C president might have a little to do with her predicament.Without giving too much of the story away I can say that Harley is loved by Caleb and Jace, even though both men did her wrong (and I mean WRONG)I am definitly feeling that Jace is it for her.I feel so bad for Jace suffering from his illness and I feel like Harley is the missing link in his path to recovery.I also think Jace woulnt have screwed up so bad if only he was medicated correctly and accepted for his illness.Caleb is just selfish and something about him rubs me the wrong way.He belongs with Avery. So yeah I'm Totally TEAM JACE. I hope in the next story he finally gets back with Harley.(Please Sophie)

Four Stars for A Broken Beautiful Beginning

description
Please be aware, there may be spoilers below, especially if you haven't read A Broken Beautiful Thing

I may need to see a specialist after reading the novella and conclusion to the Caleb-Harley-Jace love triangle. Full disclosure, I ended A Broken Beautiful Thing firmly planted in the Team Caleb camp. In fact, after reading so many reviews on goodreads, I was convinced many of my fellow readers needed serious psychological evaluations. It was completely bizarre to me how anyone would choose Jace/Raven over Caleb. But somehow during A Broken Beautiful Beginning, I started to shift loyalties. It was crazy. It was madness. It was totally out of the blue. Sophie Summers, I'm sending you the bill. How did you pull so much sympathy towards a man who was so irredeemable to me prior to this book? I knew he had bipolar disorder, but my thoughts got twisted all kinds of cray cray and I found myself wanting to kick Caleb's ass.

How can I accurately describe my perception of Caleb between Book 1 and Book 1.5? Let's try this.
Caleb Book 1

Caleb Book 1.5
description

There was a lot more exploration into Caleb's character in this book. We had insight as to where he was and how he spent his time in the four years away from Harley. Loose ends and lingering questions were also answered as to his relationship with Ashley or lack thereof as it seems. It was nice to see that there was a lot more to Caleb than the spoiled jock who made a monumental error in judgment. Where his character ultimately ends up seemed so odd to me; I suppose I never picked up where Caleb Some where along the line, Caleb's character became a little more Raven in certain aspects and it threw me a bit. All the sympathetic parts of him started fading for me as I was able to compare Raven and Caleb with a little more scrutiny. His character definitely changed the most from Point A to Point B.

description

I also found myself missing Jace. As opposed as I was to his very existence in Harley's life, I began looking at their connection in a different light. He really was such a strong force in her life the four years she was apart from Caleb. He was both her savior and her worst nightmare. But I was so much more connected to him this time around. I believe this is due to the fact his inner monologue really brought more insight as to the struggles he constantly had within himself. He knew so many of his actions would bare awful consequences but he couldn't help himself. It was heartbreaking to witness. He seemed so shattered and broken. But we rarely saw him after the first few chapters and I did feel that void in the end.

description

What I loved about A Broken Beautiful Beginning was watching Harley come into her own. She showed more strength and determination in this book than she did in the first one. She didn't allow herself to be shoved around by the men in her life. She fought for her happiness and wasn't content to be the victim who always needed to be rescued. Harley realized she had her breaking point. She knew that there were aspects of her life she would not compromise, particularly when it came to Willow's happiness and well being. I had a lot more respect for her character than I did before. She didn't allow herself to be stepped on and cast aside. Along with Willow, Harley was definitely the one to pull for and love.

In the beginning, I was Team Caleb. In the middle, I became Team Jace. In the end, Team Harley all the way

3.5 spoilers present but you know I like to rant and I very much HAVE TO write about this book!

I love this story but I disliked Caleb and Harley's dad so much in this book. Caleb and the father know she hates the club and is trying to get away from it and he joins it?? The father actually pushes him to join? So frustrating. Harley let's everyone get away with everything, she's a doormat. All Caleb did this while book was lie to her and keep shit from her. Um hello, that's what he did before and what you left Jace for. Now she is with him and sucked into the club shit again. Ugh!!!!! I wanted a HEA, a real one but I know this isn't the end so I will wait impatiently for the next book. Jace was kind of pathetic in this book. I'm so glad we know the truth about what happened with that skank in book one. I like Jace a sliver more now. Oh, on the brighter side, we find out why Caleb was at the park that day with Ashley. Willow is also as cute as ever. I'll just say, if it's me, I would leave that whole state, just move with Willow cross country and forget all that fucked up craziness! Love Sophie's books even though they make me want to punch the characters in the face at times, will def read the next.

I hate this book. These characters didn’t deserve one book let alone two. I’m not finished yet but there is very little character growth or any real emotional dynamic between the FMC and anyone in the book except with her child and that even barely.

well holy smokes Sophie!! never saw the twists and turns you played out!!

This story starts off immediately after the major OMG Gasp cliffhanger of the first book...

This is a story where Jace pretty much goes off the deep end, in his love for Harley... If you thought he was a beautiful broken man in the first one.. you pretty much break your heart seeing his complete downfall in this book..

This storm behind the curtain is happening as Caleb and Harley are trying to carve out a future.. make a real family... dive deep into their love...

but you know the ride is going to be extremely bumpy with some major free falls... Caleb wants nothing but to have his family together and protect them... hard to do when your family is an MC. And that just brings a spiral of major events that you can't even imagine happening, to Harley, to Caleb, to everyone involved...
You literally will be gasping for breath, and just yelling, "noooooo...no no"

Is this all going to explode with pieces of broken souls everywhere?? is there anyway to keep it together in the midst of hell?? Is love truly that strong??

READ IT!!

I think this may have been even more messed up than the first one. Too much rage at nearly all the guys in the book for their aggravating and stupid actions/decisions and at the heroine for forgiving them so easily time and again.

A Broken Beautiful Beginning (Broken Beautiful #1.5)
By: Sophie Summers
5/5 stars

This novella picks up right where the cliffhanger from This Broken Beautiful Thing left off, when Jace kidnapped Harley. We learn that Jace has severe bipolar disorder and only his father and best friend Hunter know about it. The entire club knows that Jace has anger issues. However, Jace doesn’t always take his medication and sometimes mixes it with alcohol.

Jace realizes that what he did was wrong, even though he did it because he loved her & was trying to get one more chance for a relationship. He knows now that Caleb came back into Harley and Willow’s life, that he will lose her forever. It absolutely breaks his heart, but he also knows that royally screwed up, and that things will never be the same between them again.

Caleb & Willow are reunited with Harley, while the club punishes Jace for his actions. Harley cuts most of the club life, including her jobs at the bar & tattoo shop, out of her regular life because she doesn’t want to run into Jace. Caleb also demands that she not work anywhere else, except for him.

Caleb & Harley have to work on getting to know each other, their differences & how they changed during the 4 years that they were separated. Of course, Harley’s changes are most apparent & well-known. But Caleb’s changes are not so well-known because he is trying so hard to be the same boy that she loved years ago. Harley also doesn’t know what Caleb went through during that time. So there is friction between the two, even though they are committed to restarting their relationship.

Of course, there is rival club drama that causes problems for the Devils Grimm MC and the family members of the MC. This also brings to head a confrontation between Harley and her dad, Grimm that has been on simmer for many years.

For those who complained that there was no sex in the first book, there is in this one!  Situations are resolved and there is no cliffy in this book. But I am most definitely looking forward to Jace’s book coming up next and I really hope that there is also a book for Hunter in the works after that!! Also thank-you to Sophie Summers for releasing this gem early!! <3

Oh this novella continuation was absolutely fantastic to the point that I wish it was actually part of book one itself. I hope the author incorporates the two into one special edition at some point because it really does start where the first ended with that unbelievably tense cliffhanger. Okay, it would have been a long read but this 3 hour novella really shed so much light on the characters, their business within the club, Caleb's missing four years, and how Avery is connected. And what a fantastic insight it was!

Jace may have played a pivotal role in This Broken Beautiful Thing, and the beginning of this story really does take place directly on from him completely succumbing to the darkness, but Jace is no monster. We see the good in him, only when Raven comes out to play, that is when he really does come into his own. Its sad as much as it is riveting to read. I love bad Jace, almost as much as I hate the choices he makes while playing him.

In this novella we go 'behind the cut,' as Sophie Summers delves into the background of many characters that I have grown to care for.

Harley and Caleb are destined, that much we know, but both have changed dramatically in their 4 year absence, but with secrets and club business proposals staking a claim on their new gym, Caleb is feeling the heat of the patch, while Harley is desperate for some MC time out.

Will they be able to find that magic they once had? Will Jace let Harley move on with Caleb? And will the meddling of the club destroy everything they are working so hard to achieve?

The angst is still here but it took on a more mature and serious role in this one. For those who hated the cliffhanger in the main novel then my advice is to read A Broken Beautiful Beginning because this continuation/sequel is a real gem. I loved it!

Well crap. At the end of the first book, I was voting for Caleb all the way even though he screwed up royally. When I started this book I just knew I would be cheering Caleb on. How wrong I was. I thought Jace (Raven) was the biggest ahole in the first book. Well, I was actually started to change my mind about that after just a few chapters into the second book. You can't help but feel sorry for Jace. You can tell he really does love the h. I didn't think I could possibly like him after the first book, but I was wrong. You won't see much of Jace in this book, but the few times he is mentioned just breaks my heart. Caleb was so in love with the h in the first book even after the unforgivable, but he was like a totally different person in this book. I really hated him for much of this book even though all of his actions are explained by the end. If you read the first book, you have to read this one as well. It was just as good as the first. I couldn't put it down and can not wait until book 2. That will be Jace's book. I personally don't think he and the h will ever get back together. I think he'll find another love, but we will have to wait and see. I really want Hunter's story as well.

Loved Loved it, okay so I still love jace, never stopped actually, he is sweet when he is on his meds, he really wanted to make amends for harley and willow, that said I still don't like caleb, I know willows daddy and all, but I think he is even worse than jace. yeah he wanted to protect his family? dude you screwed it up not just once not twice ..a lot, harley in my eyes is way to forgiving to caleb. And at the end of the book Caleb's thoughts just make me hate him even more : 'Even though he hurt my girl time and time again, she managed to forgive him and move past it. He was also the one to look after her and Willow when I wasn’t around for all those years. I know he won’t harm Willow in anyway and I sure as hell hope he knows what will happen to him if he lays one finger on Harley again. I won’t be so kind a second time, I stop at second chances.'

He hurt his girl time and time again still he did exactly the same thing?. Even worse he let her be locked up in a cage for 4 days. But that said, I do love how he called Caleb for Willow and is a part of her and haley life.

Was not a fan of this series at all. I don’t understand how Caleb could be intimate with Avery after knowing she had been with all of those men from the club. Plus, why would he let her in his house and let her live with him for all those months? He even let her back when she would leave and be MIA. Everyone in this series was so childish. They couldn’t even talk to each other like adults. Harley kept running instead of being a grown up and facing whatever crazy situation she was in, Caleb kept secrets from her, Jace turned physical (really?) Hunter lied to her again after promising he never would again. It was just too much. And why didn’t we hear from Brent again? He was a big staple in her and Willows life and then nothing. I would have liked to have seen Harley and Caleb after they are engaged running in to Ashley. Letting her know she didn’t come between them. Is there gonna be a book about Mia? That was kinda random throwing her in the book and then we didn’t really hear anything about her at the end.

Ugh...I don't know how I feel. I've never been invested in one character like I have to Harley. I want to cry for her, slap the shit out of her, laugh for her...but mostly? WHY? Why does she have like the shittiest luck ever? I thought from the last book I would want her to be with Caleb but now? Now...I don't think I do. I can't wait to read the next book with Jace...but I think Brent Should get a book. I really really like him. I think Jesse and Hunter should also get books.
