Fists Of Love

Rate this book
Fists of Love is a story about the violence of love, about the pain it can bring us, both physically and mentally. It is a story of the sacrifices we make, believing we are doing the right thing but never knowing for sure if we are.

Jason Myers is struggling, another dead end job, a one bedroom concrete bunker to come home to, his life is going nowhere. . . again.

Cindy Vorhees was his one true love or at least the closest he ever came to it. But the death of their four-year-old son Hank broke Jason and he lost her, his business and any sense of worth.

But perhaps there is a chance for redemption as they drive through the back roads to Queensland on a scenic tour of motel rooms and memories, unfolding a history of chaos, violence, frivolity and madness as the couple recall the haphazard relationship they had and the pain and pleasure they brought to each other along the way.

Good effort but essentially another 'dirty realist grunge novel' and way too sentimental and gushy, sort of like Christos Tsiolkas. The characters weren't very interesting, like characters from the Ozzie tv show 'neighbours' but who had more tattoos and were into drinking and breaking things, immature colonialists. And the character names made it hard to take them seriously, Jason Myers? Hello? Friday the Halloween in Adelaide! It probably works better as a teen novel. I wanted to like it more.
