This text offers an innovative approach to teaching and coaching based on a thorough analysis of skilled performance and an understanding of the conditions under which people learn best. It shows how the strategies of simplifying, shaping, focusing, and enhancing can maximize learning and positively influence the attitudes of learners. The second edition also offers more practical examples and highlights how this pedagogical approach can be integrated into teaching and coaching preparation programs.
Play Practice is a game centered approach for coaching and teaching sports. To tackle the issues presented by the traditional coaching methods, PP tries to help players stay engaged and have fun while understanding tactical and technical learning.
This book is confusing. It doesn't really give a clear idea of what PP is until you finish several chapters and get a bigger picture. However, the content itself is very good in helping coaches understand alternative approaches and understand the strengths and weaknesses to adapt their coaching style.
Lots of the content wasn’t really generalisable enough to the sport I am coaching. Agree fully with the first few general chapters though about the importance of game based training.
