Monster Bounty Hunters #1

Rescued by the Mothman

Rate this book
I've been taken hostage, but I don't know who is more terrifying. The person keeping me here or the Mothman sent to rescue me.

Clarissa

When the huge winged gruff Mothman appears at my doorstep, my first instinct is to run. They are harbingers of disaster, after all. But when my brother finally snaps, there is only one hope of rescue. The terrifying monster that I can't stop thinking about.

Sable

I'm here to do a job. A slightly illegal job, but this guy nearly got my sister and her friends killed. They want him brought in alive. But when I see that not only is he holding someone hostage, but that the hostage is my mate.... I won't be held responsible for what I do to him.

Don’t judge me, it was pretty good. It’s short but the story was good for how long it is. And I’ve definitely read longer books that were way worse. I feel if you’re intrigued by monster smut and want to put feelers out, it’s short enough that it’s not a huge commitment and it’s interesting enough that you’ll probably finish it.

Gleeful Goblin Review: How are you gonna put a dark and swarthy Mothman looking like Hugh Jackman as Wolverine on the cover of this book and not expect me to snatch this book with shocking alacrity? You can't, I did, I have zero regrets. This author does, in my opinion, a perfect job blending darker themes and a hint of brooding into stories without it being what I would call "dark romance" which is sensational for me who is firmly in my cozy/comfort/touch her and perish era of my life. I adore a good bounty hunter backstory and this book is no exception to that rule. The book doubly hooked me by having the FMC have the most amazing smack down of a gross patron at her workplace EVER: “I’m just saying, I think he’s doing something rude in that booth.” I turned from my anxious colleague and looked over at the individual reading booths running along the back wall of the library. Usually used by students wanting to study in peace, occasionally a suspicious-looking man went in there and draped his coat across his chair at a weird angle to hide his lap. She might be right. “Have you approached him?” I asked. Delilah shook her head, dark hair bobbing around her face. She looked apologetic, but I knew there was no way in hell she was going over there and confronting a potential creep. She was too shy. As the only other staff member in, it was down to me. I took a deep breath, had a sip of coffee, and strode over, aiming for a combination of friendly but no nonsense. “Excuse me, sir?” As the words came out, my eyes fell to see the man rubbing at his gross looking little ©0ck. He looked up at me, eyes wide. Then, to my horror, he smiled. Angry heat flooded me. “Absolutely fu©kiíng not!” Without thinking, I dumped the rest of my coffee directly in his lap. He leaped up shrieking, ©0ck dangling and dripping, now exposed to the entire library. Every single face turned towards us. “You’ve scalded me!” Admittedly, I hadn’t stopped to think about how hot the coffee still was. But it was drinking temperature, so I figured he was being overdramatic. “Please put away your disgusting, tiny little friend and leave. If you ever come back, I’ll be boiling up some fresh tea for you.” “You’ve injured me. I might be scarred! I could sue you!” I looked down. His floppy member seemed red and shriveled, but I didn’t think that was because of the coffee. “You’re right. How terrible of me! Shall we call the police and let them decide who’s in the wrong? You can see if they’ll arrest me.” He stuttered, eyes bulging with rage, and then he suddenly seemed to come to his senses, finally tucking himself away. “No. No, that's fine.” SWOON. If that is not a Power Move I don't know what is. And the story only takes of running from there. This is a lightning fast read filled with sarcasm, humor, and action...of all kinds. 5/5 Stars.

Sable (H), a mothman bounty hunter with a dark past and an unshakable commitment to his family, is drawn into a personal mission to help his sister, Lyla, after a prison riot caused by prison guard Delaney upends her life. His hunt for Delaney leads him to the small Appalachian town of Graybury, where John's sister Clarissa (h) lives and works. Loved how she dealt with the perv - wish we could do that at our library. Librarian Clarissa’s quiet life is shattered when her estranged brother Delaney, who harbors a deep-seated hatred for monsters, returns, complicating her life, even as Sable’s search for Delaney intersects with Clarissa’s world, pulling her into the turmoil. Clarissa learns shocking truths about her brother but struggles with conflicting emotions of loyalty to her brother and revulsion at his crimes, and her growing connection with Sable, whose protective instincts and feelings for her complicate his mission. As they get to know one another, their bond strengthens, and things heat up between Sable and Clarissa. But Delaney's actions threaten the safety of Clarissa and those she loves, and as danger closes in, together, Clarissa and Sable have to face not only the violence of the present but their pasts. Love the start of this new series and its tie in with Fated Inmates - can already see so many monsters who'll need their own stories. Hot and steamy monster-human action romance, exploring love, connection, redemption, loyalty, forgiveness, family, understanding, and belonging.

ARC REVIEW 📚

Time for another mothman review! Overall, this was a fun read. Although this story is a spin-off from the author's other series (and my first time reading this author's work), the author did well in incorporating the previous characters and its context without it overshining the current story. It's a bit sad to see that this was a short story, as I see great potential in this book to be expanded into a full-length novel. It would've been quite interesting to see more of the worldbuilding, such as the bounty hunter's system and the antagonist's backstory that led to their current motives. Even so, I enjoyed the action-packed scenes and look forward to the future books.

Since this was a quick read, I don't have much to comment about the main characters. Generally speaking, both the characters were likeable, and despite the instant attraction they both had for one another, it was refreshing to see that they didn't "jump the gun" immediately (or at first sight). It's also endearing to see how attentive and protective they were of each other. Lastly, the spicy scenes were relatively light yet passionate.

I WOULD RECOMMEND IF 📒

If you're looking for a short mothman romance novel with featured themes such as "insta-love," "fated mates," "bounty hunter," "abduction," "morally grey MMC," "touch her and d!e," "size difference," and "HEA," then this is the book for you.

Just loved it and can't wait to read more from this author. I'm a fan of anything Mothman, stories and art and knew I'd love this read.
Loved Sable, he was tough yet soft when he discovered his mate. Clarissa's uncle Rez, was a hoot, their banter had me chuckling often as his wolf's nose, told him all he needed to know re Sable and Clarissa. And giving his approval. But also enjoying Sable's discomfort at being in this new situation, of finding his mate.
There is an underlying event to this story and you know there will be more of this world and its characters. The heat was fun, and the humour had me chuckling often. There is angst, danger and leaves you wanting more. Well, I do! :D
It is a short read but so packed full that the size does not matter. Just leaves the need for more. :D

This was a wild series opener that spins off from the Fated Inmates series (you wouldn't have to read that series to enjoy this one but it's a great one, too ;D). John Delaney was a prison guard in that series and he escaped justice at the end of the series. In this story, Sable, a mothman, is a bounty hunter sent to bring John, in. Clarissa, John's sister, is ignorant of her brother's ill doings and is shocked by her dealings with him and the arrival of Sable... With a fun set of side characters, Sable works to catch John, woo Clarissa and win over their werewolf shifter uncle, Rez. So much action, drama, betrayal and steam made this a page turner, for me. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book :D

I absolutely loved the Fated Inmates series and was so sad when it ended. It was such a fun concept. I was excited to start this new series and I wasn't disappointed. Great world building and wonderful characters. The storyline was interesting and hooked my attention quickly. I loved both Sable and Clarissa. They had a moment when their eyes met, but it was definitely not a meet-cute. He was honorable and polite and they had a necessary conversation. We also have a dangerous person from the prison- her brother- on the loose. I also really liked her uncle Rez. An exciting read. I can't wait until the next! 5 stars

Book 1 of Monster Bounty Hunters starring Sable and Clarissa. Can I jump into the pages and switch places with Clarissa, that girl needs to learn to fight back and stand up for herself. I loved how once Sable comes into the picture she finds her footing and becomes this wild and brave woman. I guess finding a monster mate will do that to anyone. On but why did it have to end I need more.

Rescued by the Mothman: Monster Bounty Hunters is book 1 of the Monster Bounty Hunters series by Safia Nyx. This was a fantastic story that drew me right in and kept me. I loved how the MC’s interact with each other, once she finds her footing Clarissa is a bada$$, and Sable is and Alphamallow that will stop at nothing to protect her. This is definitely on my recommendation list.

Rescued by the Mothman is book one of the Monster Bounty Hunters Series.

Sable is a bounty hunter and is a really great character. I liked how Clarissa and Sable interacted. It seemed once she met him she became a more bolder version of herself and stood up for herself.

I enjoyed the flow of the story and there was just a touch of spice involved. It kept me interested and invested through the whole story.

This story intrigued me! The thought of living in a world where monsters and humans live together and could be fated mates sounds like a promising world! Clarissa is a pretty strong female character and functions well even after all she has been through. Sable is a cool hero! I love the protectiveness, the passion, and his vulnerability. The HEA was cute.

This was a strong start to the Monster Bounty Hunters series, it uses the storyline that I was looking for and enjoyed the use of Mothman for this. I thought Safia Nyx has that element that I wanted and enjoyed the overall feel of this. I was never bored when reading this and was glad I got to go on this journey. This was an action-packed short story with a bit of spice at the end. It's book 1 of a new series but some of the plot of the Fated Inmates series is carried over and I'd recommend reading the other series first for maximum enjoyment.

This is not the typical type story that I usually enjoy, however I was pleasantly surprised by this read. The story flowed smoothly and it turned out to be a pretty fast read.
The story had a build up and character development throughout. I love how much love and protectiveness Sable had for his family and his mate.

The first story in the Monster Bounty Hunters, Mothman bounty hunter Sable and human Librarian Clarissa along with her really nasty brother Delaney's story. Delaney was a real piece of work even to his sister. I enjoyed reading this story and seeing our main characters get a happy ending. Sable was the monster in charge of catching the man responsible for causing a lot of pain and suffering at a monster prison - and almost killing his sister. Clarissa is the fugitive’s innocent sister who catches the protective mothman’s eye. It’s a fast-paced book filled with action and love.

A new series branching from the Fated Mates, liked the sassiness coming from Clarissa, as she does take kindly to be surprised by Sable and his actions. Liked how this couples evolves and their mindset changes when they see each other’s reactions and personalities.

Started this for the goofs and probably should have been more prepared for what this actually was, but Mothman wasn’t even really Mothman? Just a cop named Sable (with wings). More of a lackluster crime romance with the briefest mentions of wings, antennae, etc. A missed opportunity for dark cryptid silliness!

This was so sweet. Who knew mothman could be a hot dirty talker. The plot was actually really good and interesting. The spice was minimal but very enjoyable. There was enough backstory to know what was going on but I don’t feel like the novella needed to be longer. I didn’t feel like I missed anything necessary

This novella is a little longer than the last one I read and half as good. The timeframe of the story—Strangers to a year later epilogue with a family—is just too big for a proper romance. There want even a first date, just meeting then getting married. Not very satisfying.

Surprisingly Sweet

It’s a small action pact novella, it was pretty good. Clarissa’s brother was a piece of garbage for no reason…I’ve been reading far too many dark romances because he deserved worse 😤
But overall I had a good time, there wasn’t much spice. So if you need a pallet cleanser, this is a good novella.

This was a very nice book. The mothman gave the female character a lot of confidence that she really needed. Was fun to see Clarissa reveal herself. I'm definitely looking forward to more parts of this series!

4.5 stars because sometimes it was difficult to interpret who was speaking. Otherwise, I highly recommend!
