Teacher and Fran are on the final leg of their journey to Goldicia when Amanda shares an unexpected revelation—it was on Goldicia, in the village of Castell, where Fran was born, and where her parents died! With the new goal of visiting Fran’s parents’ graves, the duo finally lands on Goldicia’s shores and battles their way through hordes of antibodies to find the ruins of Castell. When they do find it, another surprise awaits in the form of one last survivor—an older Black Cat called Nadia. Fran’s delight soon turns to horror as they discover Nadia’s life is being eroded by the discarded godsword Overgrowth. Can she and Teacher free Nadia from the sword’s clutches without killing her? And what other trials does Goldicia have in store for them?
Volume 18 fitted expectations, a bit of world building, a bit more on Fran's past and meeting some new entertaining characters. Most of it was a self-contained plot though, somewhat predictable, and maybe for now at least a bit too good of an ending (there might be unforeseen consequences down the line). The end fight that took up the last 25% or so was a bit too long for me as well, and I was speed reading at times, but I have never been a big fan of long drawn out battles. All in all, an entertaining read.
