Hannah and the Hitman is a fun, entertaining and cute book! The book starts with Jack being on a plane with two fellow hitmen. Their private yet broke down and now they are on a regular flight. Then Jack spots an attractive woman who has to sit between Jorge and Joe, the hitmen. They barely give her space and he instantly jumps to her defense and rearranges things so she can sit comfortably beside him.
And that is what kick starts this fun story. They instantly have this buzzing chemistry and I loved how interested he was in her erotic novel! When the plane lands he must execute his next hit and leaves quickly. But soon after he searches for his beautiful lady. And when he sees her again he finds out her name is Hannah and he pops up everywhere.
They are quick witted and lust, love and fun are at the forefront of their relationship.
I did enjoy this book. But I didn't love it. There is so much going on in this book. Jack is a hitman, but he doesn't feel like it. It was all fun and games and I missed that exciting element about it. Some chapters are super short and the flow of the book is constantly broken up with another new chapter starting. I wish there were fewer chapters with a better build up. It hops from this to that. Or one scene was broken up in like 4 chapters. It felt so unnecessary.
The book is very insta love and normally I don't mind that. But even though they had chemistry at the start. I missed the chemistry after that. Like I said before the book hops from this to that and it really added to the lack of depth and character development.
SPOILER ALERT IN THE NEXT PARAGRAPH: Hannah also has some super natural abilities that felt totally out of place. It didn't add anything to her character or the story. And it was just there. I didn't like the around five sentence explanation in the epilogue.
I also wished that the fact that her family doesn't want her was worked out better. There were not many emotions in it regarding that topic. The book focuses heavily on the fun vibe and not a lot on depth.
In all fairness the book is a bit of a mess. A fun mess. But a mess nonetheless.
I did love how body positive this book is! I adore how Hannah ate more than one slice of pizza and is comfortable in her body. That was such a huge plus. And I did enjoy the fun vibe. It made it easy to read and I read it in one go.
All in all a nice book to read. 3 stars from me for these two cutie pies.
I can't even find the words. It was that bad. I knew I should've quit before I hit the 50% mark. Maaaan, those are hours I'll never get back. Ugh. I'm not gonna waste any more time with a lengthy rant; it's just not worth it. 🤦♀️
So we get to about 36% and all of the sudden we're bringing some superhero, paranormal nonsense into the story? Sorry but that was just so random it instantly made me want to stop reading. I continued though and honestly skimmed the majority of the rest of this book. And even by the end I was still confused on what it was trying to be. A paranormal story? Sweet and contemporary? Spicy and pure erotica? It didn't seem like it had a clear direction and for me the mix of everything just didn't work.
No it's not a joke, it's a new Rom-Com by Vanessa Vale and it's pure fun!
When Jake and Hannah meet on a plane when she awkwardly is sat between two of his "co-workers"
Jake sets in to relocate her and sparks fly.
This is one of those perfect, laugh out loud, silly rom-coms we need between some of the dark romances and map lined fantasy novels we read. I enjoyed it a ton, and it even had some surprising supernatural drop ins. Give it a try!
Thank you to Valentine PR and the author for a chance to read and review.
Wow that was bad. The first 20% had potential, the chemistry between the characters was amazing. I did not care so much about Jack not showing full hitman attitude most of the time as long as the characters had a great development. But as the book went along I was hopping between half written chapters that where 2 sentences long and then it moved over, completely unnecessary. The “paranormal” element was so bad and once again unnecessary. If the characters had a solid plot this element would not be needed at all. Truly disappointed.
I felt that there could have been more. From a promising romance to I don't know what the heck I read! Was this a rom/ com, mafia, supernatural woo hoo trope, or what?I got whiplash with the back and forth tropes.
After enjoying yourself at a book convention you find yourself squished between two rather large and not so charming guys on the plane ride home. Cue gorgeous stranger to save the day and he even leave the armrest free for your use. Plot to a book, umm of course but it’s also what happens to Hannah as she heads back home to Colorado. ✈️
Jack seems like the perfect package. Handsome, sharp dresser, courteous and he’s been reading over my shoulder‼️ He’s been enjoying the smut (automatic keeper!) so what’s wrong with him, oh he’s a Hitman.
This was a fun, quirky, infuriating family read. I wasn’t sure what to expect with a supernatural twist but it was a cute change up to the story. I adored the chemistry between Hannah and Jack, gotta love a man who reads with you! 📚
Thank you to the author, Vanessa Vale, and Valentine PR, for an advanced epub of this book for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
What happens when a sexy hitman and a secretly smut loving small town librarian get together? Sparks fly! I loved listening to this audiobook. It was a laugh out loud good time with super relatable characters that had some interesting spice! I absolutely enjoyed the supernatural element of Hannah, and it made for some seriously hilarious situations. I loved the narrators because they really brought the characters to life, and it was perfectly done. I can’t wait to read more from this author… especially in this series! Thank you Simon Maverick and Libro.fm.
The story differed from most books I have read by Ms. Vanessa Vale. Two people meet on a plane from Las Vegas, Nevada to Denver, Colorado. Hannah Highcliff was in Vegas for the LoveNLost Romance Con weekend-long convention. Jack Hollister is flying back to Denver, along with Eyebrows and Joey Brains, two of Sal Reggiano’s men, to ensure that Jack completes that hit that Sal has ordered.
Hannah Highcliff is the librarian in the small tourist town of Coal Springs, Colorado, about an hour outside of Denver. She had plans to open a Romance bookstore, even had the site picked out, money saved, and a health issue changed everything. Her boyfriend dumped her, and her savings were depleted because of a brain tumor and having to have gamma knife radiation.
Jack Hollister is a hitman, taking out the trash. On the flight back to Denver, he is not happy with the way Eyebrows and Joey Brains are crowding Hannah, who is in the middle seat. Jack will make them move to the row he was in and sit beside Hannah. When he sees her reading a book, he starts reading it with her—and wow, did she surprise him. The story is explicit!
This was a fun story with a colorful cast of characters. Hannah’s family alone is enough for someone to be in therapy. She is easygoing, and mostly a people pleaser. She loves books and enjoys her job running the library. Jack doesn’t do relationships, but after meeting Hannah, she is in his head and he needs to see her.
Hannah: You are a stalker. Jack: I’m your stalker. You’re sexy and fun. Cute and you have this whole innocent look about you, but I know for a fact you’re dying to get railed over the back of your couch. A good girl and a bad girl. Hannah: Oh my God. Jack: I want to be the one who rails you. Hannah: Why me? Jack: You, Hannah, intrigue me and I haven’t been intrigued in a long time.
The story has several laughing-out-loud moments. Add a dash of unexplained mystery and two people who are attracted to one another.
Hannah: Maybe I want it rough. Jack: What happened to my good girl? Hannah: My inner bad girl wants to play.
“Hannah. You wanted a second lease on life. You got one.”
What would you do if you were reading a ~spicy~ book and as you went to turn the page the hot guy sitting next to you on the plane tells you to slow down because you were reading too fast??
This exact scenario is how this book starts and let me tell you, I was hooked. This book was funny and a quick, easy read. Not only do we get a steamy romance about a hitman and a librarian, but we read about a woman on a journey of self-love and confidence. I love it when partners complement each other and make the other the best versions of themselves and that is exactly what you get in this story.
I will say, the whole "powers" thing kind of through me off and I don't think it was super necessary to the story, so that's why it gets a slightly lower rating from me. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.
Tropes: - insta love - he falls first & harder - hitman - who did this to you - would burn down the world for each other
Oh man talk about opposites attract! Hannah is a bookworm and Jack is a hitman. How do these two even meet? Well on a plane of course. It’s definitely a lust at first sight, and continued to be, but there was also a connection too. But what was wild to me was the supernatural twist, I would have never seen that coming. But it made the book a lot more fun. Also her family is a piece of work!! Poor thing. I would overall describe this book as spicy, hilarious, and fun but yes people die— but don’t worry, just the bad ones. Oh and there’s a cat!
I know a bad book when I read one. Even before everything spiralled out of control, I just didn’t mesh with this authors writing. This book had a pretty strong premise, I really liked the idea of Hitman x Librarian, there’s a lot of fun things that can be done with that dynamic. Unfortunately, the potential was not met. Instead, we got a lot of boring sex and a silly supernatural subplot? I don’t even want to go into that because I’m still feeling very confused.
This wasn’t truly awful, it just wasn’t good. I got some entertainment from how baffling it was but that was about it.
ALC Review: I originally read the ARC of this book and found it incredibly fun, but the audiobook takes the experience to another level. Hearing the dynamic between Hannah and Jake brought so much energy to the story. Their first meeting happens on a plane, where Jake quickly becomes smitten with Hannah. Determined to see her again, he tracks her down at her library job to ask her out. As their relationship progresses, Jake's job keeps interrupting their dates, leaving Hannah confused and curious. Their chemistry is undeniable, but when Jake’s real profession comes to light, they’re forced to confront what it means for their future together. The story also weaves in some unexpected supernatural elements, adding an intriguing twist. The narrators do a fantastic job as Hannah and Jake, perfectly capturing their playful yet spicy dynamic. They excel at delivering the humor, making this audiobook a must listen for anyone craving a lighthearted, entertaining romance.
Thank you, Vanessa Vale and Simon Maverick for the ALC.
Original Review: I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book, but I ended up really enjoying it. It’s a charming mix of humor and a touch of spice. Hannah meets Jake on a plane, where he quickly becomes infatuated with her. He even tracks her down at her library job to ask her out. When they were on the plane he mentioned he’s a hitman but Hannah doesn’t take him seriously and their dates often get interrupted by his job, leaving her feeling confused. Their chemistry is undeniable, but when the truth about his profession is revealed, they must figure out what it means for their relationship. The story also includes some supernatural elements that add an intriguing twist. Overall, it’s a delightful and funny read that’s definitely worth adding to your TBR!
This is a lighthearted and magical spin on a tale that tangles a sweet small town librarian with a contract killer and a mob boss. Hannah and Jack "meet cute" on an airplane when he's reading her very spicy romance over her shoulder. She thinks they're discussing hitman as a genre, not a profession. He's a good bad guy who only targets people who deserve punishment. He's motivated to get out of the business by this innocent young woman. Having survived a serious illness, Hannah wants to live life to the fullest and that includes getting to know this very exciting man. Her life has recently been complicated by new superpowers that she doesn't understand. As Jack and Hannah try to escape the web of the Vegas Mafia, there are lots of madcap adventures and developing feelings. Told in alternating perspectives.
