Our favorite part-time assassin, Maggie Lee, is no damsel in distress, but she does end up as a serving wench.
Working undercover at Fight Knights, a medieval-themed dining experience, Maggie must deal with a suffocating corset, a pair of cocky and sharp-eyed falcons, dancing horses, and an outrageous scoundrel who must be stopped at all costs.
Can Maggie go from zero to shero…or will the corset make her pass out?
Maggie is undercover as a serving wench for Whitehat's organization with disastrous results. Trying to find a murderer amongst the staff in costumes is harder that she bargained for but has help from Nat. She and her trusty pets are on the case and she meets more animals that are pleased to communicate. A fun adventure with hilarious moments and a surprising ending. Love this series and can't wait for the next book
Maggie and her family decide to spend a fun night at Knight Fights. What could go wrong? With Maggie around you know there will be another dead body and a mystery to solve. Of course, she’ll need a little help from her furry & feathered family. Love this series!! Plenty of laughter, mystery, and a few tears will keep me coming back for more.
One of the funniest murder mysteries you will love to read
I've read all the books in the Hitwoman's series. JB Lynn can't write enough of them for my reading enjoyment. Even if you didn't love murder mysteries Maggie will have you hooked reading about her and her talking animals. You don't have to worry about graphic murders because this series doesn't have that. The red headed detective, Patrick, didn't make an appearance in this book. I wonder what he is up to. Maybe we will know in the next book.
As per usual for JB Lynn’s Hitwoman books, this is a ⭐️ 🌟 ⭐️ 🌟 ⭐️
Opening excerpt: “You just know it's going to be a bad day when you're being chased by a fire-breathing dragon. My name is Maggie Lee, and you're probably wondering how I got here. To be honest, so am I. I'm sure some might say that this was all my Aunt Loretta's fault. God would probably say that it was due to Ms. Whitehat. But I am pretty sure it was my own fault.”
I just love how Maggie can understand what animals say and how loyal they all are to her. This series has a lot to do with devotion to family despite the fact they drive her mad. The “hitwoman” portion isn’t even a major role, but it’s still in there.
Then there’s Maggie’s best friend Armani the spiritualist. She walks around with Scrabble tiles and a limp she got after a Zamboni ran her over. She has Maggie pull 7 tiles from her Scrabble bag and whatever the tiles spell out serves as a message to what will happen with Maggie. I rearrange the letters on a piece of paper trying to figure out what the message is. Sometimes I cheat and look up the answer online. This time the letters were T-O-I-R-N-A-S. I won’t tell you what they spell because you’ll need to read this book and figure it out yourself. Keep in mind it isn’t always a 7 letter word. Sometimes it’s 2 or 3 small words. Usually it all makes sense once the word(s) is revealed, but this time it doesn’t. Oh well.
Here’s a funny clip I had to share that Maggie thought about her job trainer, Ellie: “She pushed the door open and stepped inside. In her early twenties, she had a waiflike appearance and an idiot-like facial expression.” 🤣🤣
I also want to mention something else. There is a coworker to Maggie’s undercover job named Adam. If I’m not mistaken, the escapee mental patient from a previous book was named Adam. I think. If I’m correct, is it the same Adam? I skipped a book or 2 in this series to come back to this one and the next book in date release order I’ll read is The Hitwoman and the Mental Patient. If the Adam is the same one, I’ll find out shortly.
I picked this book up a few hours ago with the intention of reading a few chapters, but here I am done with the book! It was really good! I hope Nat and Maggie make something more of their current relationship. I want them to end up together! They probably won’t be though, but I can dream.
So, there’s my thoughts on this book - always great!
See you in my next review. Deuces to your cabooses!
Add-on: I mentioned that I thought Adam was the name of the man in the mental institution… nope. Emery is the name of the person (he’ll be in the mental patient book).
Book 45. Wow, this series has gotten incredibly long.
While I do like this series and the speed with which we get new books, they’ve begun to have more and more errors as time goes on. The lack of editing has never been more apparent than it is in this book. I’d honestly rather wait an extra few weeks to have these books properly edited.
This book also has super noticeable alignment issues in the first chapter, which I hadn’t noticed in other books in the series.
I realize these are quick read cozy mysteries, but I do wish more time was taken.
In all these books we’ve seen so little character growth in Maggie and it’s disappointing. She’s yet to improve her fitness or her life. She still lets just about everyone walk all over her and boss her around or blame everything going wrong on her. She has moments of standing up for herself but they’re so few and far between.
There’s also some inconsistencies in this book. Maggie is talking with Godzilla and mentions having seen the king speaking with someone the morning before but we never saw that, as far as we know, she doesn’t even know who the king is.
There’s a lot more time skips in this book and they aren’t addressed well. One minute she’s having a costume fitting, the next it’s the next day and she’s officially a serving wench. The transitions are jarring considering we normally get a rundown of her entire day because there is always multiple things vying for her attention. So much time and detail is just glossed over in this book and it feels like a departure from previous books. Especially considering there’s so little animal interaction here.
The climax and ending of this book left a lot to be desired. It was way too abrupt and felt half finished. This might be the shortest book in the series yet, I finished it in a couple hours while doing other things. Little disappointed in JB.
Maggie Lee is not a quitter. Nor is she one to take the easy way out or turn her back on someone in trouble. Hard to reconcile with a paid assassin, but facts are facts! When a woman runs directly into Maggie and dies after a couple words, Maggie willingly takes a job at the venue for Mrs. Whitehat and stays through danger even after being offered the chance to walk away. Such dedication is rewarded by being in and nearly killed by the act of an arsonist. This book was Maggie being more than she has ever been before: more principled, more brave, more protective, more open to other's ideas, and more caring. I loved how Maggie's world merged slightly into the family's world without any hesitations or repercussions. Fabulous book!!!
I love this series and McKnight Fight doesn't disappoint!
I was looking for a series that would capture my interest and not repeat stories and become stale! I found the perfect series in the Confessions of a Slightly Neurotic Hitwoman...
Knight Fight brought some new animals and characters and I look forward to seeing which ones appear again! I am rooting for Maggie and Nat! I would love for Templeton's story to be explored more and Loretta to really appreciate him!
I finish each within hours and am looking to pre-order the next book! I highly recommend!!!!
Another fun fast adventure with Maggie and her Menagerie
A fun, but far too fast, read. Maggie’s adventures continue with this latest entry. There are new bad guys, and new animals to help her solve the case. Less than a day’s read, I find these stories to be like episodes of a TV series, too short but far too fun to quit. Looking forward to the next episode in a couple of months…
I started reading this series on a whim. Boy, am I glad I did! Hitwoman has made me shed a few tears over the course of 46 books, but this one really did it. Couldn’t put it down. Can’t wait for the next one. You get wrapped upIn Maggie, her family (lol), her job And her life. You find yourself routing for her and hoping she finds the happiness she looking for.
As with the other 45, this book does not disappoint. J.B. Lynne's Hitwoman series is quickly becoming my favorite mystery series. It has it all, mystery, suspense, sadness at the love and length Maggie Lee will go to for her family, and comedy at all of the new characters that come into play with each book. Maggie Mae is the perfect character. You won't be disappointed.

I’ve always wanted to visit a Medieval Times experience. Now I’m not quite sure if I could! Maggie certainly puts her life on the line this time. I thoroughly enjoyed this lastest Maggie adventure. Started reading as soon as it downloaded to my kindle & stayed up until I finished.
#46 Hit Woman Series—Knight Fights. Only Maggie could get hooked into a job where the falcons are begging her for freedom, especially after they realize she can talk to them. This is another fun adventure in Maggie’s world where everyone is wearing costumes making it doubly hard for Maggie to determine who the bad guy is. A fun read. I recommend this author.
Lee gets in trouble all of the time. She is stubborn and loyal. I guess that is why I absolutely love her. I know she gets it done and she is funny. The family seems to be doing their own thing. I am wondering about Nat and their relationship. The next book is certainly waiting for me.
This was one of the best story lines EVER! I got the book and devoured it in one day. The stories keep getting better and better. Love all the animals and their interactions.
I love this series and JB Lynn did not disappoint. This book is hard to put down. Once you decide to start it make sure you have time to read it all the way through. The writing is phenomenal and the characters are quirky and lovable.
Once you start reading the adventures of Maggie Lee and her animal entourage, you will not be able to stop...easy, quick read the will leave you wanting more.
Everyone’s been to Medieval Times, just imagine what happens when Maggie gets there! This is one of JB Lynn’s best yet, the plot was like a speeding roller coaster all the way to the end. You won’t be able to put this one down!
Enjoyed the book, the ending could have a bit more detail in the wrap up. Would love to also know the outcomes for the falcons and horses…flew off for good? Part of the menagerie?

Another great adventure for Maggie and crew. This reader could not put the book down and finished it in record time. Did the ending hint at a relationship between Nat and Maggie? Guess we have to wait for the sequel….hurry up JB Lynn!
Loved the ending! Maggie always manages to save the day. But I have a question. What was being smuggled? I wasn't enamored with the falcons, but I loved Fred, the dancing horse.
Absolutely great, I loved this one! It’s always great to catch up with Maggie and the gang. And a bit of a surprise ending too. Can’t wait for the next book to come out!
