Rate this book
A queen has fallen. Another will rise.

I’ve been betrayed. Twice.

I made a mistake and gave my trustand my heartto the wrong man. Now the crown of souls rests on my aunt’s head and she’ll use it to force the Moroi to bend to her will. As long as I’m locked away inside this prison, I’m powerless to stop her.

But I’m not alone. My fallen prince is with me. And outside these walls are the three people I love and trust beyond measure. They will not stop until we’re all united again and then the real fight will begin.

Because this is Lunaria and there is never just one enemy. The mad queen plots from her throne while the wraith king stalks us from the shadows. Perhaps most dangerous of all is the traitorous Moroi who still thinks he has a claim to my heart.

Even if we survive...nobody is walking out of this without getting a little bloody.

A Throne of Blood and Vengeance is the third book in this spicy why choose romantasy series. You can expect angst, revenge, and Samara finding her HEA with all of her love interests! The torch will pass to Rynn in Book 4 and her hot mess of a situation as we continue to unravel the mysteries of Lunaria. Alex Frost is… actually Maddox Grey. Dun dun duuuuun!

Okay probably not that dramatic of a reveal since it isn’t exactly a closely guarded secret. The pen name Alex Frost was created to publish the spicier fantasy series that fall under the “Why Choose” genre.

Why Alex Frost? Because Maddox is a freaking nerd. After being trained by local baristas to respond to the name “Alex” instead of Maddox, it seemed like the perfect pen name. Half of it anyway.

Since Maddox already shares their last name with Jean Grey of the X-Men, it seemed fitting to borrow Emma Frost’s last name for their other persona.

If you know, you know. (insert smirking face)

I am obsessed with the dark fantasy world @alexfrost.author has created! Think Underworld vibes with the BA FMC, supernaturals, political intrigue, and blo0dy action infused with the best snarky banter and searing romance between a group of friends/allies/enemies turned lovers. There’s mayhem, diabolical plot twists, and savage betrayals.

This installment closes the chapter on Sam’s romantic storyline and embraces different forms of love—familial, romantic, and one of sisterhood. The author shines a light on diverse relationships with the M/M, pan FMC, and non-binary MC rep and the best kind of *team*work (IYKYK). The friendship Sam has with her BFFs Rynn and Cali is unshakable and equal to that with her love interests. I cannot get enough of these characters and am thrilled for what Alex has planned next for the series!

A Throne of Blood & Vengeance had my heart racing from the action ⚔️ and the action 🌶️. I was on the edge of my seat and on my feet for a standing ovation. 👏

Huge thanks to the author for the review copy opportunity. This is my honest and voluntary review

This took us on an adventure! I was a fan of all the action happening, kept me engaged with the story. I liked learning a bit more about the seelie and unseelie. The spice continued to be spicy, and that was fun! This series was an all around great read and it really kept me interested and liking all the characters.

This is the third book and the finale to Samara's intense ride, and after the cliffhanger of book 2 I so needed this resolution. This has been a journey full of tension, angst, lust, conflict, all the spice, and adventurous and diverse group dynamics.
I loved seeing the mate bonds snap into place, and the group accepting each other and their adoration for Samara, especially after their previous denials.
Roth's family were the best and I absolutely loved their crazy antics and unhinged banter.
It had great action, lots of violence, and witty teamwork. It was time to confront the villain who's been pulling the strings from the shadows, and this time the team isn't holding back. They pushed themselves to the limits, embraced new abilities, and allied with enemies.
I love that the characters are so unapologetic and true to themselves, and this was a fitting resolution for the group.

After the wild cliff hanger in book two I have been eagerly waiting for this book! And it did not disappoint! We are thrown into the thick of things alongside the main character as she is left reeling and confused from a huge betrayal. From start to finish the story was packed with some amazing action, revenge, intriguing mystery, heart wrenching moments, and of course sizzling romance. With this being a why choose romance the relationships between Samara and all the other intriguing characters go hand in hand with the plot. Often times throughout this series the romance is a big part of the ongoing plot. I don't always enjoy a super romance heavy fantasy book, but I think the author handled it perfectly! Especially since the length and pacing of the books are perfect for everything to fully develop.

For me the mystery around the Seelie and Unseelie was one of my favorite parts. As the series progressed we slowly started learning tidbits of information about the fae and in this third book we finally learn so much! From rituals to runes and characters heritage I really enjoyed this part of the book and hope to learn more in the next books.

I wish the main conflict between Samara and the Mad Queen lasted a bit longer as I was enthralled with the whole sequence but ultimately I loved the ending and wrap up for Samara and her loved ones. Both the main and secondary characters really stand out to me so I'm so excited that the next two series will focus on Samara's best friends. I have been waiting for Rynn's messy relationship with the Alpha pack to be the focus so I can't wait for the next book!

Thank you for the ARC copy!

We return to Lunaria after an absolutely brutal cliffhanger, and the book jumps straight into the action, with Samara imprisoned by her aunt, and Carmilla wielding the fae crown, intent on subjugating all Moroi to her will. This is a pretty fast paced book, and honestly I think that the pacing could have slowed down a bit, but there are some heartbreaking sacrifices involved in Samara breaking out. .

This is the book where the full polycule forms and gets together in all its various combinations, and it is both beautiful and scorchingly hot when they manage to all get their shit together. Kieran and Draven are as always one of my favorite combinations, with both Draven and Samara intent on making sure that Kieran doesn't feel lesser ever to them, Roth and Alaric are a surprisingly funny and creative duo, and Vail and Draven also have a lot of (hot) grudging teamwork.

Special mention of course has to go to Vail after that last book, and I came in expecting groveling (special callout to Samara being Team Vail Can Eat Us Out And Then Die, that made me laugh a lot), but what actually happened really fit Vail's character, and Samara learning to trust him again was really beautiful. .

Also, even though Vail is terrible at apologies, his love confession was beautiful here:
"I've always loved you. Even when I hated you." He laughed darkly. "There was no force in this world that could have ever stopped me from loving you. I'm so sorry I fucked it all up."

As always, I really love how much focus the series gives to Samara's relationship with her besties, Rynn and Callie, and they shared some of the most moving scenes together, especially when Samara calls Callie back to herself and defends Rynn to the Alpha Pack. And a new favorite character is the crown , who is super cute for a sentient deadly magic object!

The setting as always is lush and deadly, the Moroi politics intricate (although it was a nice surprise to see that Roth's family actually loves them a lot and can't WAIT to throw a giant wedding for them), and the revelations about the Seelie and Unseelie fae open up so many more possibilities for this world. I am very much looking forward to the rest of the series (can't wait to figure out Rynn's deal with the Alpha Pack and Callie's brooding Fury lover), and this was a great end to the series!

The Lovely: This was so much fun to read, at least when my heart wasn’t being ripped out at a certain point (in the best way). Otherwise, I was giggling, cackling, shrieking and swooning. The plot is woven in with the characters and the reader is provided the opportunity to try and figure out how the pieces of the mystery fit together.

Also Lovely: I loved the characters and their relationships so much in this last book, especially as the stakes got higher. The why choose element is so much more prominent and I appreciated how it wasn’t treated as a secretive or taboo thing. Samara once again proves she is sassy and smart and stabby.

Recommendation: After that massive cliffhanger at the end of book two I’ve been anxious to dive back into this world. And this was a GREAT ending to Samara’s trilogy. The next story line will focus on Rynn, followed by Callie. I for one can’t wait to see their stories. If you like why choose fantasy romance with an engaging plot and fun but meaningful relationships, I think you would like this series.

This was the perfect way to wrap up Samara's story, there was drama, action, emotional gut punches, and so much steam. Through the first two books the plot continued to gain momentum and this book was like tipping point where the pieces started to fall into place and the stakes were at their highest. Despite having a general idea of how things would end, there are these plot twists that will leave the readers speechless and sniffling back tears. From start to end, this book was so well written.

Something that I have really enjoyed is that throughout all three books, there is a high level of unapologetic steam. It was such a treat to read a book wear the political intrigue and action was evenly balanced with very spicy moments. Watching both the emotional and physical relationships between Samara, Kieran, Draven, Alaric, Roth, and Vail evolve has been pure fun.

While the story line for Samara ended in this book, the overarching plot and unanswered questions (so many questions about the Fae and how they got to Lunaria) will continue through to Rynn and then Cali's books. I loved this approach as it allows for this more nuanced world building and plot development, but doesn't draw out any one individuals character arc. And I cannot wait to shift focus and see what adventures and chaos ensues with Rynn and the alpha pack.

And once again, Eva Caine and Zane Daniels were a dynamic duo with the narration. I love how they were able to bring this entire cast of characters to life. From the rumbling growls to witty banter, listening to these two were pure perfection. No notes, no edits, just an amazing listen.

Great, spicy why choose romantasy, 3rd book in the Lunaria Realms series.

After the cliffhanger ending of the second book, A Court of Bones and Sorrow, I was really excited to jump back into Lunaria. And this book didn’t disappoint. Fast-paced and full of action. At times I would have preferred the pacing to be a bit slower, but that’s just my personal preference.

The friendships and relationships between the characters continued to be great and I loved the relationship developments between Samara and her love interests, but also the friendships between Samara and her besties. The spice scenes were spicy and the chemistry between the characters was great.

Great ending to Samara’s story. I can’t wait to read Rynn’s story next!

“Because I should hate you, but I can’t, and you shouldn’t trust me, but you do.”
“There is no black and white. There is no good and evil.”
“What I need… Is to get cleaned off and then have all of you compete to see whose name I can scream the loudest.”
“Be a sweetheart and sit on my fucking face.”
“Have you tried saying the words, ‘I’m sorry?’ That’s usually a good starting point.”

I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving ARC didn’t affect my opinion of the book.

“I was the lost scholar who’d finally found a home in her.”

Okay wow. This was a very open ending to this trilogy, and I have my suspicions of there being more to come in the world of Lunaria. I feel satisfied with the ending and still feel excitement over questions left unanswered.

Samara was ever the brave and loving person she’s always been. Her loyalty and righteousness shone in this book. I loved seeing her vast range of emotions and how she used those to achieve her goals.

Kieran my baby!!! He finally got his happy ever after with both of his loves.

Alaric has grown on me so much throughout this series and I’m very glad to see him trusting himself and others more.

Roth definitely leaned more into the protective side I was hoping we’d get. Their family was such a delightful addition to this story and the wedding was precious!

Vail. Okay fine. I like him. He’s definitely had the greatest character development. It’s been a roller coaster but he finally feels trustworthy, and worthy in general.

Draven. I loved seeing him mend his relationship with Kier and forge friendships with the rest of the group.

The Blood Sovereign has so much more to do, but for now, they deserve peace.

What a fantastic conclusion to Samara’s story! I absolutely love this world Alex Frost has created, and these characters completely stole my heart. We got everything in this book, and the series as a whole - multi POV, tons of action, political intrigue, magic, found family, mate bonds, a why choose romance, all the spice, banter, betrayals, plot twists, and so much more!

The relationships formed in this story were top notch, and not just the romantic ones! And there were so many diverse relationships in this one, and I absolutely loved the representation throughout the series. We had a pan FMC, a nonbinary main character, and a M/M duo within the why choose group. Beyond that, even the friendships throughout the story were top notch.

Watching Samara and her team work together to plot and outsmart multiple adversaries was the best time. It was fun to see how her mind worked through all the problems at hand, and she wasn’t afraid to lean on those around her for help.

Everyone was so unapologetically themselves, and I think that’s honestly what helped the group dynamic work. The ending was such a great way to wrap this part of the story up, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store next for Rynn’s story.

I cannot get enough of these characters and this world! If you’re looking for your next why choose fantasy full of action and adventure, politics, spice, strong friendships, and so much more, then look no further than the Lunaria Realms series. Thank you so much, Alex Frost, for the ARC! No matter which name you write under, you’ve got yourself a fan for life! 🖤

Overall the series for me is a 3.5. The plot was pretty good for a why choose book and the special edition set I bought had awesome art inserts. The sex scenes were spicy. Sometimes I felt they were overdone but it’s a why choose book so I expected it.

I loved the way Samara knew Draven wasn’t all that he seemed and how she forgives Vail. I did feel Roth’s character could have been better flushed out.

What I wish I did have was a prequel series to understand why Samara’s friendship with Rynn and Cali started and how they became soul sisters in a sense-

I also felt the ending was rushed and there are so many plot holes that hopefully will be filled with the continuation of Rynn and Cali’s stories. I understand Camilla had to die and I’m glad it was by Samara’s hand but is Endrielle (sorry spelling) is just trapped now and that’s that? Why tease about the origins of the Fae but give zero answers. Also did the humans come with the Fae - it seemed that the Fae brought the humans with them from wherever they are from based on what the false fae king says but what did Samara’s grandfather do to get put in the prison world to begin with. How did another fae take over? Where did sorell go? So many questions just left open. Hopefully they will eventually get answered.

Oh this was the ending Samara needed!!!

I have been soo invested in Samara’s story. It has been such a ride watching her discover herself and her 5 lovers!

Although I’m sad that Samara’s part of this story has ended, I am so excited to see Rynn take over!

This series is a spicy why choose so you know right off the bat that we are going to have some fun loven scenes in there. Like really chapters 11, 23, 24 and the epilogue in this book are 🥵 (and theres def more than just those chapters). But there is also a really interesting and interacted story of the sellie and unseelie fae, vampires and shifters! I feel that the overall story is unique and really keeps you engaged and wanting to know more! Although we get a lot of questions answered with Samara, there are still more that I can’t wait for Rynn to uncover.

Even though a lot of the story focuses on the relationship of Samara,Roth, Draven, Kieran, Alarik and Vail. There is also such a great “I will go to war for you” vibe between Samara and her best friends Rynn and Cali. I love seeing the three of them together!

If you love why choose fantasy romance then this series needs to be on your list!

I have absolutely adored this series.

This was the final in the trilogy revolving around Samara Harker and her mates, as well as the Moroi. The series will continue but it will pivot to focus on Rynn and the Velasians.

After the cliffy in book 2, we pick up where that left off.
Samara has been imprisoned in the dungeons in Sovereign House, Vail has betrayed her and chosen to ally with Carmilla. The crown has been joined and they’re all in deep shit, because now Carmilla can bind souls to her will.

The story then progresses as all the characters find their way back together and attempt to deal with the numerous threats against both them and Lunaria.

It’s action packed, romance packed, angst packed and full of lust, love, betrayal, treachery, hope, fists, whips, swords and daggers, and lastly cunning maneuvering.

I absolutely, totally loved it.

Thank you to Behind the Pages and Alex for entrusting me with a review copy!

A Throne of Blood and Vengeance by Alex Frost
Lunaria Realms book 3
Audiobook releases 12/16!

Duet narration by Eva Caine and Zane Daniels
Eva and Zane continued to bring this amazing found family to life! They brought all the emotion and had me hanging on the edge of my seat! The audio also sounded great at the higher speed my brain needs for audio!

Multiple POV, spicy why choose (pan FMC, non-binary partner, and MM within the main relationships), LGTBQ+ normative, still some slow burn left while other partners are on fire, revisiting a previous forbidden romance, hate to love, enemies to lovers, monsters, great female friendship, fated mates, groveling, one horse, humans turned into paranormal beings a few generations ago with a spell (new take on vampires, shifters, and furies), betrayal, political intrigue, f*ck it, eyes on me, sassy crown (yes, you heard me)

Wow, I have not been able to put any of the books in this series down, and this was no exception! And this one has been my favorite so far! I loved the different relationships coming together, but also how they all fit together as a family as well! There were also some fantastic new side characters that I adore in this one! The story had a great mix of joyful moments mixed with the emotionally devastating ones, which I always appreciate. The first three books have been Samara's books and I just adored how they wrapped up! The next set of books will change to another FMC and I'm so excited for them as well!

Imprisoned and betrayed, Samara has one goal - save Draven and get her revenge, all while Alaric, Roth and Keiran work frantically to find out more to find out more about her whereabouts. When Samara finally understands the depths of Carmilla’s viciousness, she realizes that her once mentor has always been her biggest enemy. With the help of her friends and her lovers, Samara must not only find a way to set things right for the Moroi but also come up with a way outsmart a devious fae king.

Samara, once again, stood out as a smart, sly and sexy Queen! She knew what she needed to do and did not wait for the men to do her bidding. I particularly loved her friendship with Caly and Rynn. She found her family in them and I absolutely loved how they protected each other no matter what.

After A Court of Bones and Sorrow ended with the most unexpected cliffhanger, I couldn’t wait to get back to Lunaria. The characters, the story, the world, and the magic were all captivating. I cannot wait to get into Caly’s and Rynn’s stories!

A Throne of Blood and Vengeance

Ahh so good and spicy! I was so excited for this one after how the last one left off. And let me say it didn’t disappoint! It was full of high stakes, spicy romance and heartfelt emotions.

I loved the story and the twists along the way. It was interesting to learn more about the fae and what happened in the past. I can’t wait to learn more about more from this world as I feel like the series will continue but with new leads like perhaps Cal…

As for Sam and her possessive and protective men I adored them and they had such a beautiful story. Perhaps there’s more and if so I do look forward to it! My favorite is still of course Kieran!

If you love spicy why choose with blood play, group scenes, lots of steam, possessive men, high stakes danger, cunning FMC, loyal friends and so much more then make sure to check out this series!

Thank you to Alex Frost and Behind the Pages LLC for an eARC of this novel!

This novel concludes Samara Harker’s trilogy! It was exciting to read and a nice conclusion to her story. I read these books back to back to back, so I got completely invested into the world of Lunaria. This third instalment was my favourite out of the three. You really see Samara come into her own in this novel. She does what has to be done and isn’t afraid to speak up and do what’s right for Lunaria and those she loves. She is done trying to do what is expected of her and is instead following her heart.

If you love why choose romances, nicely-paced plot, yearning, fated mates, fantasy and lots of spice — this is absolutely the series for you.

I received this eARC for free and all thoughts are my own.

I received a free copy of the audiobook and am leaving my review voluntarily.

This was an epic conclusion to the trilogy. I love Samara. Her confidence and snarky attitude were awesome, and a lot of the character interactions were hilarious because of it. I loved Roth's family, too, and there were so many plot twists I wasn't expecting.

The narrators knocked it out of the park once again.

The level of scheming Samara had to go through to achieve her goals was impressive. I would not have been that crafty.

Overall, I really enjoyed this series. It was well written, and the character interactions were all complex. You could really picture each separate character and their behavior/personality.

Absolutely fabulous.

I received this book as an arc (and admittedly am the worst for taking so long because… well life) but Holy cow it was one hell of a ride.

I both read and listened to the audio and both are absolute perfection. And omg the spice 🥵

Sometimes it was harder to keep up with all the changing pov of all the characters but totally worth it.

I’m curious if it connected to the lost legacies series these are since there similarities but we will see. For now I’m content with the wrap up of their story for now. Look forward to wren story and how the lunaria realms series continues.

There are so many interesting characters in this book, I hope to get more of their stories too in the future.

This was a great end to Samara’s trilogy. I really enjoyed the storyline, the character growth, and the RH deliciousness! There was one event however where there were 6 of them… it was difficult for me to keep up with who was where. There is a character that commits some betrayal in book 2 so I really enjoyed the groveling in this book and the utter venom spewed their way but also how another character helped them realize how to grow from the mistake. Callie and Ren were in this one a lot more so I enjoyed learning more about their characters since they each will get their own trilogy next. Eva Caine and Zane Daniels performed the audiobook superbly! They did an amazing job with the range of emotions the various characters exhibited. I love a duet audiobook!

This book did not disappoint! After the cliffy from book 2, this was a much needed ending! Alex did not forget a single characters growth! And the spice! Omfg! When there are multiple people in a scene, sometimes limbs get multiplied or it gets confusing as to who is where! The clarity of the positioning was immaculately written!

The audiobook for this book was amazing! I can't believe how fast I ate this up! Eva Caine and Zane Daniels were phenomenal! Zane gave all of the male characters their own distinct voices and personalities, just as I imagined them while reading the books! Eva voiced Samara and Roth had me thinking there were two different narrators voicing them.

4.5 ⭐ rounded up

Now that I've finished this series, I can confidently say this is one of my absolute favorite why choose romantasy series. The quality was consistent and the characters all stayed true to themselves in a way that I feel like often doesn't happen once the characters are together. I loved the complex dynamics of their relationships.

Alex created such an interesting world, I was so glad when I read that Cali and Rynn will be getting their own books as well as there is so much more I want to know about Lunaria (in a good way not a plot holes way!).

Thank you to Alex Frost for the ALCs!

This book absolutely made up for the cliffhanger ending of the previous one! I loved getting to explore all the points of view as the story progressed, so helpful to see things from everyone's perspective. This is definitely the spiciest book of the series in my opinion, and I'm here for it. I loved meeting Roth's absolutely unhinged family, they were hilarious. It's bittersweet that it's Samara's last main story but I'm absolutely looking forward to seeing what happens between Rynn and the Alpha pack.

I laughed out loud, teared up, and sweated 🥵 reading this book. Again, this is what why choose dreams are made of! I adore these characters and am so excited to continue the story with Rynn. There is still a lot to learn but Samara's HEA was very satisfying. If you like why choose, action-packed series with lots of secrets and heart warming found family then you need to check out this series!

We well definitely burn the world for each other like those the world. There are some amazing quotes and scenes in this book you just have to experience. Plus you learn some of those secrets too. Looking forward to learn more of Rynn in 2026.

If you haven't read this series, what are you even doing with your life? I just can not get enough of this series! The writing is wonderful. The story is amazing. This one had me laughing, crying and cheering! I got a little worried a few times about a couple characters too. The spice is *chef's kiss* and so perfectly placed in the story.

I had the absolute privilege to receive the audiobook of this book early as part of Alex Frost's ALC team.

This book is the conclusion of what may be my absolute favorite Why Choose series yet. The love and respect they all have for eachother by the end is beautiful. I cannot wait for the next book in the series to start Rynn's story!
