Devil's Spider: Journey Through Devil Spider Island

Rate this book
There’s an island full of spiders. Adrian Cardin thought it was just a myth.

Then one summer day, he and his friends find themselves surrounded by devilish eight-legged freaks the size of tanks and something even worse lurking in the shadows.

They call him the Devil’s Spider.

It talks, it jokes, and it kills.

And for some twisted reason, it chooses Adrian.

Now bonded with a wisecracking spider, Adrian is changing. Stronger, faster, and with a strange rage burning just beneath his skin. His friends want to leave the island, but the island wants blood. And something is hunting the Devil’s Spider, something not of this world.

Welcome to Devil Spider Island. Hope you’re not afraid of spiders.

3.8/5 rounded up to 5.

This book is a big surprise. I don't think anyone can go into it with any sort of expectation of where the plot will go because they will just be taken for a spin.

This was a fantastic and creative adventure to read through. Three high schoolers (one with arachnophobia) venturing out to a mysterious island called "Devil's Spider island" and encountering all sorts of insane creatures was super fun to read about. There are a couple of plot twists that I won't mention in this review, just because I think the reader should experience first-hand how unexpected they are but they certainly kept things fresh with the story and kept me guessing as to what was going to happen next.

All in all, an extremely fun book to read that kept me engaged the whole time.

As a side note, I consumed this story via audiobook, which is FANTASTICALLY produced. The narration is excellently done and really brings the characters to life.

On the other end, there is an issue of redundancy in the writing that, at times, proved to be distracting while I was listening to the audio book. There could have been some more polish done during the revision phase to help the writing itself stand on its own two feet. BUT that did not keep me from enjoying the story as it was at all and I still recommend it.
