I want to start this review by raving about how beautiful the prose is, Karoline has done a fantastic job of painting a stunning picture of the magical land of the Kallos and more than once I felt someone must have been cutting onions nearby as I listened. Despite not being the main audience (teenagers), I really enjoyed the story, the characters are great and just such a wonderful group. It's a story that deals with friendship, belonging, confidence and young love, Alina's journey from someone who feels outcast and socially awkward to a young heroine is excellent. Imagine Harry Potter but more elegantly written, more wholesome and where compassion is the key. If you've got young teenagers, particularly girls who can look up to Alina, I cannot recommend this to them enough.

'A HEALER’S PROPHECY' BY KAROLINE ETTINGER
A Book Review by Zea Perez
February 2026

'Magical world, wonderful characters, a very engaging book series!'

This book has an elaborate world building - showcasing a breathtaking setting; highlighting wonderful and intricate characters; and a great opening to an interesting plot about the universal conflict between good versus evil.

The characters take shape mainly as humans with extraordinary abilities and powers, there are gnomes, fairies, elves, shapeshifters, among others.

The main character belongs to the kind of healers, she is young and an evil entity is appearing in her dreams trying to corrupt her to the evil side. A prophecy is on her- which may endanger her life and the realm. And I see the hints that together with her new found friends in her new found home and world, young as they might be; by discovering, exploring and combining their powers they will try to prevail over the odds and challenges against the evil forces as revealed in the very introduction of the book.

The themes of coming of age, discovering one’s potential and strength; forging friendships, navigating social skills, social belongingness or social affinity; and cherishing the love and respect of one's family and kin are the core themes I appreciate of this book. Young love is featured in this book too! All perfect for young adult readers.

I love that it engages on the character complexities-such as the growth and struggles of adolescence, the innocence or the lack of experience yet curious and bold to learn, to explore and even be willing to get hurt or to feel pain - all to experience life. I love that it also touches on the issues and concerns of the environment vis-a-vis vital to the existence of various creatures.

Author Karoline Ettinger, surely has a vivid vision of her magical world and characters. She is able to explore their complexities of growth and emotions, and the characters' psyches.

This book is a marvelous introduction of the series, I look forward to reading the next book instalments. Five stars for this book!

Young adult fantasy is my go-to genre, and A HEALER’S PROPHECY was a welcome and enjoyable addition to my recent reading stack.

Alina is a seemingly regular teenager born with a gift—the ability to heal. She learns from her grandmother that this gift is a family secret, and in order to master it, Alina must go to a realm beyond our own. One that’s familiar, but simpler and not revolving around technology. There in the Kallos, she meets her new mentor, Diya, and a group of other teens also learning to use their magical abilities. It’s a supportive, healthy place for kids to be themselves.

But Alina also received unwelcome visits in her dreams from Atticus, the dark fairy king. He’s interested in the young healer-in-training and it’s clear the two will cross paths soon.

Much of A HEALER’S PROPHECY is focused on Alina’s coming-of-age story and her relationships with the other teens. Author Karoline Ettinger does a nice job capturing the confusion and swirling emotions that are normal at this time in our lives.

Alina is a believable, likable character, and I think middle school, high school, and even older elementary school readers will relate to her story. When people say “Appropriate for younger readers,” they often mean the book doesn’t have any sexual or violent content (and to be sure, this book doesn’t have any of that.) But A HEALER’S PROPHECY takes that a step further by showing kids in healthy, respectful, and loving relationships with friends, family, and first crushes. It’s positive stuff for young readers.

I also want to note that this book has great disability representation among Alina’s friend group!

Love is the most powerful force; good against evil.
A Healer’s Prophecy is a perfect fantasy book geared to the middle school aged demographic. I love that Alina is a strong but loving girl trying to fight the evil side. As a retired teacher, I would have read this book with my students with carefree ease(no inappropriateness). The balance between the healers, elves, fairies, and gnomes is a young readers dream. I’m not usually a fantasy genre reader but this held my attention. I finished this quick read in less than a day. I needed to know what happens next. Waiting for the next two of the Kallos Trilogy to be released in audio.

A Healer’s Prophecy is a beautifully written fantasy filled with magic, prophecy, and heart. Alina is a compelling heroine, and the balance between light and darkness kept me hooked. The world-building is rich, the stakes feel real, and the story flows effortlessly. A strong and promising start to the Kallos Trilogy.

This book was written for middle grade fantasy lovers, which totally tracks because I would have eaten this up as a 7th grader. All the animals and magical creatures are something out of a Lisa Frank dream. Also, it was so beautifully written. Very warm and dainty!

A Healer’s Prophecy by Karoline Ettinger is the first book in the Kallos Trilogy.

Turning fifteen changes Alina’s entire world—quite literally. Faced with the discovery of long-buried family secrets, along with leaning she has ancient powers, she must decide if she’s willing to step into the role that’s expected of her.

I enjoyed following Alina as she grew into her powers and navigated the pull she felt between light and dark. The story blends mystery, heartwarming friendships, and a touch of first love, together in an enchanting world, where a young heroine struggles to discover her true strength.

I’m excited to see where Alina’s story goes next in the trilogy!

This had some Harry Potter vibes, but the balance between attending classes in this new magical world and learning about the villain wasn't quite right. I also think I'm just getting too old to really appreciate these children's books. I feel like the right age group would enjoy this much more than I did.

I do my reading in the hammock on Pineapple Hill’s second floor porch overlooking a pasture that slopes gently into woods. Normally the books are non-fiction related to sailing, autobiographies such as Life by Keith Richards or, lately, in fiction, works by John Irving, Pat Conroy, Annie Proulx. Never did I expect to try a Teen and Coming of Age title.

But I did. Karoline Ettinger’s A Healer’s Prophecy. Met her online, decided to trade.

This story is written for younger readers (she created it for her daughters, how cool is that!) but I recommend it for adults too. It’ll cure PTSD, depression, or just a bad hair day. I promise. Did for me.

To be honest, I wondered what I’d be getting into, told Karoline I knew nothing of books for kids. Her advice was to broaden my horizons.

So into the hammock I went.

Early on, there’s a moment when Karoline’s words seem to flip a switch like when Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz steps from black & white into full throttle mega atomic Technicolor…and Karoline's talent blew my mind.

I was hooked!

The main character, a fifteen-year-old girl, wakes up in a new place where flowers spring up, float on the air and where quiet sounds can be heard from afar. The wings of a butterfly, for instance. Colors pop like neon.

Next bring on a fabulous assortment of elves, fairies and pixies.

Karolina (a yogi and nature lover in addition to mom) knew exactly how to fill a story with fascinating scenery, respect for Mother Earth, and a fun cast from different walks of life.

It’s a story of innocence and coming of age—stepping into Big Girl shoes to face the scary things that come in life.

Yes, this is perfect for children but parents will love it too. There’s a definite Snow White vibe. (Are you paying attention, Disney?)

Every one of us knows somebody just right for this.

Treat them. Bring them all inside this magical world.

Karoline Ettinger’s YA fantasy novel, A Healer’s Prophecy is a wholesome, charming, and mystical coming of age story set in a supernatural world filled with healers, gnomes, fairies and elves in a lush forestry setting. Travel with Alina from a mundane life in Texas to her purpose in Kallos. Meet her teenage community filled with big energy and experience the magic of first times and friendship as they rally together to confront a darkness that arrives in thoughts and consciousness. Nature and wildlife are under the spotlight in this story reminding us that all life - air, water, plants, animals and us hang in a fragile “balance of give and take”.

I read this book when I needed a little healing of my own, so I cried during a few passages filled with profound wisdom from the elders in the story. I loved the vivid world building, life lessons and the delightful blend of Dr. Doolittle, Darth Vader and the Wicked Witch of the West vibes. The story is a love letter from mother earth to all its children. Highly recommended for young readers and lovers of the power in herbal remedies and inner energies!

Note that this heartfelt book is the first in a series of three: A Healer’s Prophecy, A New Generation, The Three Unite. Read them all!

I recently picked up this book after a friend recommended it, and I couldn’t put it down. The characters were so vivid and relatable that I found a bit of myself in each of them. The story centers around a young girl, Alina, who discovers her magical powers at age 15 and is transported from Earth to a mystical realm called the Kallos.

The world of Kallos itself is captivating—a place rich with magic, fairies, gnomes, and fantastical creatures that feel like evolved versions of familiar animals. The atmosphere is reminiscent of The Chronicles of Narnia, Lord of the Rings and I’m sure blend of other fantasy stories, blending a sense of adventure with deeper, spiritual themes about the balance between good and evil and a respect for nature.

Alina, the protagonist, is truly lovable, and the author’s writing makes you feel every emotion with her. I even found myself tearing up a few times. With such a strong start, I can’t wait to dive into the second part of this trilogy, which I’m thrilled to hear is already available on Kindle.

I found A Healer's Prophecy by Karoline Ettinger to be an enjoyable and imaginative fantasy story. The novel follows Alina, a fifteen-year-old girl who discovers that she is part of an ancient prophecy. Her healing and travelling powers make her both special and vulnerable, especially as the Dark Fairy King begins to move against her world.

What I liked most was the magical setting and the sense of adventure. The friendships and hints of first love added warmth to the story, making it feel more personal. The plot moves steadily, and the mystery around Alina’s family secrets keeps the reader interested.

At times, some parts feel familiar to other fantasy tales, but the world-building and magical elements still make the book enjoyable. Overall, it is a promising start to a trilogy and suits readers who enjoy magic, courage, and destiny. ✨📚

Traveling to another world, with powers that center on meditation, herbs and love, yes! This story tells such a great tale of how power can ruin the best in people all while exploring a magic that feels real. The world building and journey is envisioned so easily as if i was in my own dream. Well done!
