Sheriff Rebecca West and her team may have ended the Yacht Club’s debauched reign, but things on Shadow Island haven’t calmed down. In fact, it's taken on a more terrifying form. Sensationalist headlines accuse Rebecca of everything from conspiracy to corruption, but the real danger isn’t in the ink and whispers. Something worse has washed onto the shores of Shadow Island.
And it can kill in a single bite.
A local man has fatally overdosed on fentanyl at the ice cream parlor after polishing off a salted caramel cone. No history of drug use, no needles, no signs of addiction—only a body filled with poison. Rebecca suspects something far worse than a tragic accident. But how does fentanyl find its way into a dessert?
When a father and his two children are poisoned by fentanyl after eating at a local diner, Rebecca comes to a startling realization. A sadistic killer is playing a dangerous game of chance, turning routine moments into fatal traps. The island is no longer just haunted by its past—it’s under siege by a faceless killer, lurking in every bite, every sip, every breath.
Instead of a bullet, he’s randomly placing poison around town in a deadly game of Russian roulette. No one is safe. And any unsuspecting citizen could be next.

Will Rebecca win this battle and will Shadow Island be doomed after this? Catching up with Sheriff Rebecca West and her Deputies was great. Following this series has been nice. I keep hoping Rebecca will win against the forces threatening her and the Islands people. In this book there is another attack on the Islands people. Will Rebecca be at this crime? Stop the damage it has already caused. How scary is this threat and will they catch the men involved. Exciting! You should read it too. You will love this Series and Author.
Someone is poisoning the residents from Shadow Island with Fentanyl. Someone has randomly poisoned something at each restaurant in the small town, deadly amounts of the drug. 3 people die, and two children barely survive an overdose. During Sheriff's West investigation, she learns this may not be random and caused by something or someone from her past. Never a dull moment In the Shadow Island series.
SHADOW’S DOOM is the seventeenth jnstallment in the Shadow Island Series by Mary Stone and Lori Rhodes and another frightening story you will have a hard time setting down.
They thought by taking down the Yacht Club their Island would be a safe place to be. Since then girls are found partially buried. Now people out for a bite of food are dying. First a local man stops for an ice cream cone. He drops dead before leaving the shop. Next it's a family at everyone's favorite café on the Island, leaving one dead and two children in the hospital. It's quickly found to be from fatal overdoses of fentanyl in their food. Someone is playing a deadly game of Russian roulette and any unsuspecting citizen could be next. At the same time Sheriff Rebecca West is being targeted with dark rumors and insinuations against her reputation and ability to serve the public. It will take law enforcement and forensic teams from surrounding areas to help solve these cases.
If you haven't read any of Mary Stone's books and enjoy mystery thrillers, you should start. I did receive an ARC of this book from the author and this is my freely given and honest review. I recommend this book and the entire series.
Sheriff Rebecca West and her deputies have gotten rid of the Yacht Club and are hoping for the Island to get back to normal. However, there is a smear campaign spreading vicious gossip about Rebecca pertaining to her past and claiming she is the reason for all that has happened to Shadow Island since her return. Then, a man dies after eating an ice cream cone. Pure Fentanyl is found in his system. Is this an isolated case or are they looking at a murderer putting this drug into local eateries?? The story is really good and educates the reader about how dangerous even a speck of Fentanyl can be.
Rebecca and her team are suddenly faced with a victim dying at the local ice cream store.. Their investigation shows fentanyl in his body, but how and where did it come from? He has no signs of being a drug user. Before they can solve this death investigation they get a call that a husband and 2 of his children are in need of medical help quickly. They find fentanyl in each of their systems also. Now the big question is where is it coming from and how is it getting into peoples systems. Very fast paced with a surprise ending
Another big win for Mary Stone and Lori Rhodes with Shadow’s Doom. They have crafted a story with superb characters and is so good it is hard to put into words! From chapter one the suspense builds and builds. This new case is so fresh but also connecting it to Sheriff Rebecca West’s past is brilliant! The ending chapters are so important to Rebecca’s back story. Then new information comes to her relating to her parent's death and her near death after being shot. What will she do with this information??? And the cliffhanger…WOW!!
Just when you think Shadow Island is safe, it's not. Someone is still out to get Sheriff West, and they are pulling out all the stops. A smear campaign is launched and then a killer comes to town. An old enemy has surfaced and Rebecca as well as her entire community is in danger. I like this series, and Sheriff West is one determined woman. Lots of twists that you aren't expecting, and this book will keep you involved. I read it in one setting. Can't wait for the next one!
Rebecca and her team are at it again. A sudden call from ice scream, you scream finds an overdose victim who seems to have ingested opiates. As the death toll climbs the team scrambles to find out as fast as they can who is targeting the community members or Shadow Island. Is it possible at old nemesis is hard at work? Will the stop the murderer before more lives are lost? Read the novel and find out. Good series and another novel to add to the storyline. Enjoy!
Trying to be as spoiler free as possible here. I had no idea where the new storyline could possibly be going after the main one wrapped up in the previous books. It felt like it was going into murder soap opera territory. Finishing the 2nd half, especially the last few chapters of this book made it make total sense. After the blindside hit me I’m just left facepalming about how I didn’t see it coming. GG Mary
The slander, drugs, murders, crime continues even after Yacht club is shut down. This tense thriller is real page turner. The past is catching up with Rebecca and the horrible truth is coming up. What will she do as a sheriff and as a person?! This is another amazing book in the series with the cliff hanger at the end. Mary and Lori wow. Thank you.
Shadow Island has been through a lot and so has Sheriff West and her deputies. The calmness of the island is shattered by a possible fentanyl death. As they investigate the death another call comes in involving two children. What is happening to the island? Who would want to cause the chaos tearing the island apart and why?
Mary Stone and Lori Rhodes have done it again with a story that is so exciting that you will want to read it quickly. Shadow Island series never disappoints and is one of my favorites. I am really looking forward to the next book in the series. Can't come soon enough. I am an ARC member & this is my honest review.
Another, oh my story the ending is yet to show it's self but not with more hints, scares and I'm sure murders yet to come . I am so glad the Sheriff's learned she is loved by all of the deputies and she isn't all alone as she feared. Read and enjoy and then join me while I impatiently wait for the next Shadow Island book!
These ladies write kick butt stories. This one ended in, of course, a spot where you are dying to know what's next. Sheriff Rebecca and her deputies are a top notch team cracking the deepest cases. I really like the characters in the stories and the dilemmas they get into. can't wait for the next book
OMG!!!!!!! This book was amazing and terrifying. It is scary to know that only a tiny speck of fentanol can kill a grown man and how easily someone could poison random people. I truly hope no one ever tries this. And now Rebecca has another big problem to deal with I can't wait to read the next book
ANOTHER GREAT READ IN THIS SERIES. THE STORYLINE IS ORIGINAL AND GRABS YOU AND WON'T LET GO TILL THE END. PLENTY OF TWISTS AND TURNS TO KEEP YOU TURNING PAGES TILL THE END. WELL WRITTEN WITH GREAT CHARACTERS. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THE OTHERS IN THE SERIES.
Seems like the evil never ends at Shadow Island. Now someone is after the innocent people of the island. But why? The answer is in the book. I am glad to finally learn what happened to Rebecca and her family before she arrived at the island to live. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
A man dies after eating a seemingly innocuous ice cream cone. What caused his death will leave you afraid, very afraid. Follow along with Sheriff Rebecca West and her deputies as they unravel the mystery.
Mary Stone has hit another home run with this one!
Rebecca finishes one case & is thrown into another! Someone is randomly killing using fentanyl in her town, can her team catch the murderer in time to save the town & Rebecca's reputation, which seems to be on the line? Is the past catching up to her? This is one that you won't want to miss
This book about Rebecca was awesome with her team able to find the person raising havoc on the island and getting him and the past has come back with problems. This book had lots of suspense and action. Thank you Mary.
Mary Stone never disappoints me. This book is everything you want a book to be and more. Each character feels like an old friend. The storyline is gripping from the very beginning. It leaves you wanting more.
This book is a page turner. I have been reading the Shadow series since the first one. Each one getting me closer to Rebecca and her enemies from all sides. I cannot wait for the next book.
Shadow’s doom is the seventeenth installment of the Shadow Island series. I love the sheriff and her deputies. They never give up. You will not be disappointed in this series. Can’t wait for the next installment. An outstanding book Mary Stone.
A fast paced read into the chaos and corruption caused by one man's overriding greed and addiction fueled by another man's self entitled need for revenge & power. It's a scary tail that rings clearly in the climate we face today.
OMG. This is an exciting book. I could not put his book down. Can't wait until the next book comes out. This is more than a five star book. I highly recommend this book and series.
This series is so intense. The greed that keeps pulling in people to commit crimes on Shadow Island is overwhelming. Rebecca keeps getting case after case that is about greed for money and control. This time it goes back to why she ended on Shadow Island. Definitely a good read.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Another great mystery in the series....someone's sprinkling bad things in the sea salt. You'll have to read to see who...! Some back story on how Rebecca ends up on Shadow Island leads to another story waiting to unfold. Can't wait!
Reading this story made me wonder how an individual can decide to cause problems without feeling guilty. Rebecca finally caught the individual. Again anyone liking a mystery that was challenging should read this book.
Very interesting story line. I would say the bad guy was crazy. I really enjoyed the story. It is a definite must read. I am looking forward the next one In The series.
