The power of a secret lies with those who can keep it.
Former Delta Forces soldier, Simon “Stone” McLean fell for Juliana Morgenstern so fast he’s pretty sure he hit critical velocity. The history loving, charmingly klutzy, lush librarian is his future, and he intends to make sure she has no doubt where he stands on the matter. Only to woo her the way he wants, there’s a little problem they need to resolve—the two men plotting the murder of a third who aren’t happy she overheard their plans.
All Juliana wanted was to finish her audiobook while enjoying a new exhibit at the museum. Too bad her stupid earbuds ran out of power and now she’s in the crosshairs of not one, but two potential killers. Sure, she can research the men down to their third-grade test scores, but that’s not going to help much when they come after her with their metaphorical guns blazing.
Dodging killers, evading tails, tricking the tricksters, and (literally) putting out fires isn’t exactly how either saw their courtship going down. Thankfully, they’re both excellent multi-taskers and Stone has no intention of letting the twisted web of corruption three decades in the making derail his plans. Especially not when Juliana puts herself in their line of fire and an unexpected alliance threatens everything they're fighting for.
Tamsen Schultz is the author of several romantic suspense novels and American Kin (a short story published in Line Zero Magazine). In addition to being a writer, she has a background in the field of international conflict resolution, has co-founded a non-profit, and currently works in corporate America. Like most lawyers, she spends a disproportionate amount of time thinking (and writing) about what it might be like to do something else. She lives in Northern California in a house full of males including her husband, two sons, three cats, a dog, and a gender-neutral, but well-stocked, wine rack.
Stone is the first in the Falcon's Rest MC series of books by Tamsen Schultz. It isn't the first that we've seen of this group of men though. In the last Mystery Lake book (Vindictive,) we met the club when their leader Mantis fell for Charlie Warwick. This series is also set in the Mystery Lake area and the Warwick family (at least in this first book) do appear in cameo roles. Like most of Tamsen Schultz books, this story is both a romance and a thriller. Shultz artfully manages a seamless blend of the two genres, which results in an unputdownable rollercoaster of a read. Stone, or Simon as Juliana, our heroine, tends to refer to him, has a complicated past and craves family and connection. Juliana hasn't had a much better time, but the two work really well together. This isn't an insta love situation, our couple have been out on dates prior to the start of the story, but when events lead to Juliana asking Stone and his brothers for help, their relationship quickly progresses. The only slight downside with these books is that all of the characters are so intelligent and capable. It always leaves me feeling slightly inadequate or like I still need to grow up to be a 'real' adult the way that these people are. This a fantastic start to a new series and I can't wait to read more.
Stone is a great beginning to what I'm sure is going to be another fantastic Tamsen Schultz series. Pick this one up now so you're in on the ground floor of this series!
This first book in the Falcon's Rest series picks up where the Mystery Lake series left off and explores the guys and their ladies of the Falcon's Rest motorcycle club. So far we met Mantis, the club leader, when he fell for Charlie Warwick in the Mystery Lake series.
In Stone, Juliana and Stone have been trying to set up a date that works for both of them but things keep getting in the way and then Juliana overhears something she wasn't meant to hear and things start to get crazy. Stone and his band of brothers step in to help and Ms. Schultz's latest series is off to a great start!
I love this author's books because she writes strong women who date strong, caring men that know how to not only help when needed, but when to back off and let their ladies handle their own things. Add in the lovely town of Mystery Lake and the great occupants we've been introduced to and these are series that readers will want to see go on and on.
I received an ARC at my request and as always, all thoughts are my own and happily shared.
I really liked this book. The suspense and action started in chapter one and continued through the entire book. It was a great way to start this new spin off series, with new characters and cameos of characters I loved from the Mystery Lake series.
This was not the typical MC romance. There were no club girls, no drugs, and no criminal behavior. The Falcon’s Rest MC is comprised of retired special forces men who all have tragic childhood backgrounds and are now working to save women in abusive situations.
Juliana and Simon met during the Mystery Lake series and are at the beginning of their relationship when Juliana finds herself in need of the kind of help the men of Falcon’s Rest know how to provide. She overhears a conversation she shouldn’t have and when the men come after her, Simon will stop at nothing to keep her safe.
I liked the mix of romance, investigation and suspense. It was pretty light but I liked the way it built to the climax. I loved both Simon and Juliana’s backstories and I enjoyed them learning to trust each other enough to talk about them together. I loved the introduction to each of them men of Falcon’s Rest. I can’t wait for more from this series.
Thank you for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
A new and entertaining novel by Tamsen Schultz takes us immediately into the new series in a way that has the reader immersed in the MC without even thinking about it. Stone and Juliana are a great couple who have much they have overcome, but in some ways that is what makes them such a great couple. From different worlds and yet so compatible. The plot grabs you right away and never lets you go. I was 47% through the book before I realized I needed to get some sleep before work. It is not so much a 'who-dun-it' as a 'oh dear lord, what will happen next.' A great read, an adventure, and an awesome introduction to this new series. While set in the same town for the most part as the Mystery Lake Series, we are introduced to some new and rather cool characters. I am looking forward to the next mystery and the one after that. Ms. Schultz is a skilled writer who weaves a tale that will having you looking up and wondering how you are still sitting on your couch. Her descriptive style lets you 'see' the story unfold and happily you are along for the ride. Excellent introduction to the new series!
Tamsen's new Falcon's Rest MC series is off to a brilliant start with STONE. Normally I'm not a fan of MC club books, but both the club and its members where cleverly introduced in the last of the Mystery Lake's stories, so I knew going in that there's no club 'lingo', no violence and no drugs. Just a band of former special ops brothers-in-arms who love to ride bikes and are united in their determination to help and protect. Stone is no exeption. He's an absolutely wonderful MMC, loyal, protective, with rough edges and a painful past but a deep longing for family. Juliana is intelligent, courageous and ready to share life's burden with someone special - his perfect match. Circumstances outside their control speed up their courtship and their road to HEA is a fast-paced, action-filled whirlwind with cameo appearances from quite a few former characters based in Mystery lake. I can't wait for the next addition to a series to promises to be absolutely captivating! I was fortunate to have received an advanced copy and am leaving this review voluntarily and honestly.
Nothing about the cover pic of a guy showing off his body says, "This is a biker and highly educated librarian book." I really liked Julianna and "Stone" (although he's referred to as Simon throughout this story so I had to remind myself who Stone was) and how even though they came from totally different backgrounds, they both overcame horrendous families and treatment. I liked the dog, Sherman, and how he was such a loving sweetheart. Hopefully, we'll get more of their story in other future books because even though everything turned out okay, this was more of an HFN story.
One of the cons was that there must be another series that I should have read first because there were references that made me feel left out. Also, there were so many people at the end crisis that I had trouble remembering who was who, but I will keep reading this series.
Frightening Reality! Stone, the beginning of Tamsen Schultz’s new Falcon’s Rest series has a frightening reality of just how easy it is to track and find someone using technology in today’s world. It makes you really stop and think about what kinds of information are available on just about everyone. I did appreciate the scene where Juliana and Simon are interested in forming a “real and honest” relationship. So often people are not honest with each other and problems begin cropping up almost immediately. A lie is not maintainable for a long period of time and relationships break down. It looks like this relationship has a very good chance of continuing into the future which is always a plus in a good book! Thank you for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
This is an exciting and captivating start to a new series for Tamsen Schultz. This fantastic story was impossible to put down, filled with drama, intrigue, action, suspense, and romance that were perfectly woven together and moving fluidly to a wonderful ending. Her characters are brilliantly crafted and her protagonists were given strong traits opposite of the other, which created a genuine and realistic emotional struggles. The plot easily kept me engaged and caught up in the protagonists lives, emotionally involved in the story. A great read! I received a complimentary ARC, but I am voluntarily offering my personal opinion.
Great start to a new series. There are some familiar characters and locations from previous series. I am eager to read the next one about the men in Falcon's Rest. I do skip over the intimate details, but enjoyed the romance. The dangerous parts of the tale were exciting. I especially liked the addition of the dog. I am sure I will enjoy getting to know the other men better in this motorcycle club. Looking forward to their adventures and significant others. Thanks to the author for providing a copy. My review is voluntary.
I have read and loved all of Tamsen Schultz books. This one is as good as all the others. Julia is at a museum when she overhears two men plotting a murder. She hopes that they didn't suspect that she overheard them. Being a librarian she goes home and researches who the men are. It becomes apparent that the men suspect she overheard them. Julia has just started dating Stone who is entranced by the librarian. Before they can continue building their relationship they must solve the puzzle of who is the intended target and why. I received this free copy for am honest review.
I so enjoyed this book which I'm hoping will turn into a new series. I normally don't read a lot of MC type books, but I will saw this one is unique. The group of men seems to be ex-military and are a good group of guys. No drugs, human trafficking etc. Both characters, Stone and Juliana each have their own pasts and fears, but they are relatable and you can easily root for them. A nice mix of steam and suspenseful moments. A 5 star read in my opinion.
DNF @6%. The author fails to draw the reader in. The storyline laid us to this point doesn’t make sense. This may be fiction but it has to make sense. I don’t appreciate writing that also lays out convenient traps and solutions, I also don’t believe the MC male lead and the librarian female lead dating story. We don’t get see them meet and him pursue her. It’s a NO from me.
when a librarian from the Warwick Presidential Library finds herself accidentally a possible target, connections are made or refreshed that could be life changing for several parties.
drama, action and suspense filled with some steamy action that just might overcome bumby bits from the past.
I love this book!! I love the characters, the camaraderie and the loyalty they have toward each other, and their unique qualities. The story is excellent and so well told. The mystery and romance are great, and I love the dog. This is an all around enjoyable book and I definitely look forward to more in this series!
A fast paced, full of action story. Julianna was happy listening to her audiobook not witnessing a real life crime. Stone needs to keep her safe as well as falling for her. Suspense and and danger around every corner. A not to be missed story.
What a great kickoff to a new series! You get romance, suspense, mystery, and a little humor. I loved the characters. You will see some of your favorites from other series. And meet some you can't wait to see more of.
I really enjoyed this book Stone and his lady finding their own HEA. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series and will definitely recommend this book to everyone.
