MEMOIR OF A SHATTERED SOUL

Rate this book
Abuse comes in different forms; there is sexual abuse, physical abuse and mental abuse. It can happen to anyone and its victims do not have a certain look or social status. Ms. Williams is a woman that was sexually abused at a young age, and left to carry the burden of this ghastly act. Her life spiraled downhill as a teenager; she became severely depressed, and turned to smoking pot and drinking heavily, trying hard to bury the inner turmoil that was deep inside.
She made several suicide attempts and started indulging in self-destructive behavior, which included domestic violence and selling crack cocaine on the streets of Richmond, Virginia. It wasn’t long before she finally hit rock bottom; she caught eight charges on a federal indictment, lost her kids and went to prison.
With no one to turn to, and the closest people around her, turning into federal informants, she must figure out a way to use her strength to keep her sanity, and find a way out of the pit that her reckless behavior had dropped her in.
Shattered Soul: A Memoir is a real-life story of abuse, and full of trials and tribulations. It tells the story of a woman who is displaying her life openly, honestly, and showing great courage and strength. She is sharing her triumphs of coming home from prison, picking up the pieces of her shattered soul, changing her life and going back to college to get a degree in psychology.

Once I started reading Ms. Williams' posts on Facebook, I was anxious to purchase and read this book. When it was out, I was READY.

From page one, I had the feeling that I was sitting at a favorite restaurant or in one of our houses, having a conversation with a friend. The writing is such that the book reads like a discussion, it's written in first person prose, a perspective that's rare and more difficult to maintain. Ms. Williams tells her story in great detail, pulling readers into her life in a manner that few people ever do. The writing allowed me to experience feelings of disappointment when "friends" proved to be less than who they pretended to be, anger when "lovers" were anything but, and sadness when it was evident that there were still very severe consequences to be experienced even after the lessons were learned.

This book is a page turner, one that takes readers deep into the mind and heart of a lady who has experienced life in a way that many haven't and those who have won't ever admit. While the wording is simplistic and easy to follow, the reading is anything but. There were a couple of times that I found the "preachy" nature of an opening or closing of a chapter off putting. However, it fit with the telling and wasn't such that it took much away from the book.

I'm hopeful that this book, in particular, is shared among many and that Ms. Williams has the opportunity to tell her story many more times, as many times as she has the will and desire to do so. God has truly blessed her, and it would be amazing to have her share that gift with others, especially to the benefit of her and her family as she is also benefiting others.

WOW....Memoir Of A Shattered Soul is an emotional true story.
The author did an excellent job in writing her memoir.
The story line was written so well, as you follow her on her path.

No one grows up the same. I can't say I can relate to any of the things she went through because I had never experience any of what she did.

I do know that after reading this book I don't think that myself or anyone can judge someone else's past.
We can only pray that they learn and change.

I didn't feel any pity for the author ,I felt as if she was my sister and felt so much pride and respect for her in everything that she had accomplish.
She learned , achieved and succeed. Her children and family were always very important to her.

I love these sentence(s) and so many more in her book , these quotes can pertains to everyone not just someone that has been in prison:
"Don't ever let your past dictate your future". This is a great statement.
"If you want to change bad enough , you will take the necessary steps needed to make that change.
"Never be a shamed of what happen to you, you deserve better and should get better"

The story will capture your interest from the beginning and hold it until the end. The story line flowed very well.
I highly recommend that you add this book to your list of books to read this year, like right now (smile)
I am sure you will enjoy this book as much as I did.
Thank you to the author for telling your story.

MY SISTER REALLY LAID HER WHOLE LIFE STORY OUT FOR US! I TRULY APPRECIATE YOUR HONEST AND BEING SO UPFRONT ABOUT THE TRAILS, TRIBULATIONS AND TRIUMPHED COMEBACK YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED IN YOUR YOUNG LIFE. YOU ARE TRULY AN EXAMPLE TO SO MANY WOMEN THAT ARE STRUGGLING THROUGH THE EXACT SAME THINGS AND DON'T HAVE ANYONE TO TALK TO AND GUIDE THEM TO TURN THEIR MISFORTUNE S AROUND. IT IS HERE ALL IN BLACK AND WHITE! I PRAY THAT YOUR LIFE STORY AND MESSAGE TO OVERCOME CAN REACH THE MASSES THAT REALLY NEED TO HEAR IT

Ms. Williams bared her every soul in this book and I appreciated it. There is not too many out here that lived the life she did and write about it with sugarcoating. The "Re evaluate & Re invent" section and on got me the most. She reminds that we are never alone though our situations may not be the same. Good job, Ms. Williams. Kudos to you and all the success in the world.

What an amazing story

I loved this story. After meeting such a wonderful person I knew I had to read her story. The saying is Absolutely when it comes to Ms Williams. Never judge a book by its cover. Get to know a person and understand their struggles before you just pass unfair and unreasonable judgement on them.

Wow! I've had the pleasure to meet this author and be around her for an entire weekend and just by looking at her, you would never know her struggle. I think she did an excellent job of sharing her memoir. She shared her life story and let us in on some of her most intimate moments since leaving Jamaica til now. Very enlightening and touching. Job well done!
