Reign: Rise of the Void Queen

Rate this book
Nature

My brothers and I were born knowing we would be all that could protect our world from the Pale Warrior. We grew up wanting to protect those around us. We lived and suffered long past our siblings and parents.

What we didn’t know was we would wait hundreds of years before we’d awaken to powers we weren’t prepared for.

For a battle larger than we could have imagined.

To feel sympathy for the thing that would bring the end of the world.

Nurture

Akeldama had always been different; her senses were superior, her hair white as snow, alabaster skin, and onyx eyes.

Despite that her father had loved her and taught her how to be a fearless warrior. With his love the whisper of the Void stayed away. His disappearance was a catalyst to a life without love.

Sold by a mother who feared her and abused by the village that bought her. She fell back on her skill with a sword and shield.

Whispers of the void turned to shouts.

Her will to ignore them wavered.

We were born to be saviors.

She was made into a monster.

And we might be the only ones who can tame her.

This was a very interesting read for me. I love anything related to Vikings and their lore so I ate this up.

Reign is a fast paced read that has multiple POVs. The characters were complex and I really enjoyed their dynamics with one another. The story features gay and lesbian representation, which I adore. It has some open door spicy scenes and SA but the author does not get terribly descriptive.

I would have liked to see more details explaining action scenes and locations. I struggled to get a picture of it in my head. Additionally, I had a hard time following the timeline. It felt like this story took place over a couple of weeks but I believe it is more like a couple of months.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book! The premise had me intrigued from the beginning and I loved the lore behind the plot. I look forward to seeing how this story continues!

This book was very interesting! I loved all of the different POVs, although, I had a bit of a hard time initially keeping up with who was who. I loved the concept of the gods and the parallels with the characters and the watchdogs. The spice was great and it did not overpower the plot, it was just the right amount. The relationships had so much depth to them and were so full of love. Also, I’m always here for some LGBTQ representation! The world could definitely use some more of that!
Overall, a great book and would definitely recommend!
