Spoiler alert:

This "chilling, emotionally charged domestic thriller with a jaw-dropping twist" is about a conniving pedophile.

This should have been stated in the publisher's blurb.

DNF. I do not enjoy books about male teachers/coaches who take advantage of vulnerable HS girls.

My first read by Sally Royer- Derr will NOT be my last. This book is twisty and turns on a dime. There are even a few moments that left me slack-jawed saying "no way"

So yes, I highly recommend.

Natalie starts a new position on her young daughters school. Lucas, a beloved teacher and collegue is introduced, and Natalie knows he isn't the perfect husband, coworker, mentor that he's playing.
Back home his wife Olivia knows something is off, but can never put her finger on it.

As this story weaves the three of them together it is simply delicious in it's delivery. I loved every minute and encourage you to keep an eye out for it when released in January of 2025.

Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the chance to read and review prior to publication.

This is another great novel by Sally Royer-Derr, tense and suspenseful as Natalie comes face to face with a teacher from her past. Lucas Hanson was her sports coach who groomed her when she was 15. He's now married to Olivia, and it seems up to his old tricks with a young girl Haley who's training at the school where Natalie works with Lucas.
Added to this and we have a mystery character who is watching Natalie's every move, just waiting to strike. Life is going to catch up with all of them and it won't be a happy ending.
Told from 3 perspectives this is a fast paced novel. I loved how Natalie tried to protect Olivia and Haley, there are characters you'll love and characters you'll hate all wrapped up in this domestic drama

4.75⭐️
Sally Roger-Derr has become an auto-read author for me and her books keep getting better.
I am so thankful to Storm Publishing giving me a free ARC of their titles as they are always stand outs to me this allowing me to review them.

Thriller writers can become so predictable or they regurgitate others works by changing a few things but this is fairly original. The FMC Natalie is a special education teacher and you can tell that the author has first hand experience as it was written with care and accuracy. That character background wasn’t part of the main plot but it enriched the character as well as made the story come together seamlessly.

While I figured out the who’s and what’s before they were unveiled that did not take away from my enjoyment. And.. there was one twist that I did NOT see coming and
Added an extra layer to the story.

It did her a little slow around the 30% mark and had minor things that kept me from giving it a 5⭐️ for my personal tastes but it’s moot as I rounded it up for Goodreads which I rarely to.

Thank you Netgalley, Storm Publishing, and Sally Royer-Derr for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

It's been a while since I read a Mystery / Thriller like this one and it was awesome! The story kept me on my toes, the suspense of what might happen driving me towards the next chapter.

I loved how strong and caring Natalie was. She was such a good person and an amazing mom to Emma. I loved her friendship with Olivia and her protectiveness over Harley.

Olivia was kind and quite. I loved when she stood up for herself, slowly finding the courage to see the truth and let go of lies.

The way everything went down at the end was so crazy and unexpected. But it was a little funny to be honest - the way their problems took themselves out from the equation.

I don't know why, but I was kinda expecting Natalie and Olivia to get together by the end of the book, but the happily ever after they git was pretty cool too!

~thank you to Storm Publishing for giving me a chance to read & review this~

This was such a fast paced book. & I enjoyed every minute of it. Natalia was such a wonderful character. The way she would do anything to protect her daughter , and just now caring she was in general. I really liked her. I love how the story played out.

There was never a dull moment while reading this; I just kept wanting to find out more. Couldn’t put it down & stayed up late just to keep reading. I love how the ending turned out as well. There were some creepy aspects but overall nothing too crazy. Very enjoyable.

If you’re looking for a fast paced thriller, give this a try. It’s worth every second.

This was a hard book to put down! This is an excellent thriller/domestic drama. It was a nice change having a strong, intelligent female main character.
Natalie’s life is finally calm and easy. She has an excellent co parenting relationship with her ex, a new job at her daughter’s school and a home right next to her new job. Unfortunately for Natalie, a villain from her past also works there.
I loved Natalie’s character and how she overcame all the bad choices/circumstances she had as a teen. She put helping other women first and made sure they wouldn’t suffer as she did. It was nice to see women working together and overcoming painful experiences together.

Wow, what a fantastic domestic thriller! This book grabs you right from the first page and doesn’t let go until the very last. It’s packed with tension, twists you won’t see coming, and a story that keeps you guessing the whole way through—a must-read for sure!

The story is told through three perspectives: Olivia, Natalie, and “Him.” This setup is so well done, keeping you on the edge of your seat and constantly piecing together the bigger picture. Each character’s voice feels unique and adds so much to the unfolding drama.

The characters are written with real depth, and I have to say, Natalie was my favorite. She’s so admirable, especially in how she’s determined to help others avoid the kind of trauma she went through as a teenager. The author also made a bold move by including a teen predator as one of the main characters, which adds a raw and daring element to the story.

What really sets the book apart is how fast-paced and unpredictable it is. The twists come one after another, and just when you think you’ve figured it out, you haven’t. It’s a total rollercoaster, with the tension building perfectly from start to finish. Sally Royer-Derr does such a great job keeping you hooked and a little on edge the whole time.

This is a solid five-star read that I couldn’t put down. I’m already looking forward to whatever she writes next!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for providing me with a digital copy in exchange for my honest review.

Full of likable characters, a strong female lead & women supporting women.

The story takes some unexpected turns and has some twists I didn't see coming.

All in all I really liked this book. Although the subject matter was heavy, the suspense and mystery kept me turning pages as quickly as I could manage.

Highly recommend if you're looking for a fast paced domestic thriller, with a strong female lead and a plethora of interesting characters added into the mix. Bonus points if you enjoy books with parts that take place in a school setting.

A fantastic domestic thriller read, There are no surprises or twists in the story; you know where the characters stand, For me, it was a unique story about Natalie, a special educator and single mom, who encounters Lucas again after twenty years. He is also a teacher in the same school she works,—the man who seduced her (rape) when she was only sixteen and he was her coach. Lucas doesn't recognize her at the beginning, but Natalie sees him as a teen predator who won't stop,..when she realizes there is another young woman caught up in Lucas’s lies.

Olivia is Luca's wife and she thinks Lucas, is charming and successful, and he offers her safety, security, and the life she always dreamed of. In return, Olivia is a picture-perfect housewife, smiling and supportive. But when she befriends Natalie, secrets come tumbling out that exposes the ugly side of Olivia’s beautiful marriage.

This was a page-turner, with an intriguing story, complex characters, and multiple POVs had all the thrill elements for suspense, a little bit of mystery and action, and a fast-paced story that will keep you entertained throughout the entire story.

The Innocent Wife is fast paced, full of secrets and lies, deception, twists and turns and some down right nasty characters.

What can be better than that.

Natalie a single mum with secrets of her own has taken a teaching position at her daughter's school when she comes face to face with Lucas another teacher.

The staff and students adore this handsome charming man but Natalie knows better.

She knows his secrets, his lies, how he uses his charm to be the predator that he is.

His wife Olivia is slowly realizing something is not right with their marriage and her new found friend Natalie doesn't know how to tell her.

Adding to the tension someone is following Natalie, getting into her home and putting her and her daughter's life in danger.

Natalie is hiding her own secrets.

We all have secrets , some more deadly than others.

Sally Royer- Derr masterfully weaves twists and turns, red herrings that will have you staying up to the final page.

This was my first book by this author but it certainly wont be my last.

This is a great domestic drama that pits predators against unwilling teens. Natalie and Jake are divorced and share custody of 5-year-old daughter, Emma. But on her first day of kindergarten, Natalie--a support teacher at school--recognizes Lucas, a teacher there who was once her soccer coach and seduced her when he was 25 and she just 15. Now she's worried about Haley, a student helper she sees frequently with Lucas as she is the same age as Natalie was when she was drawn into his web. At the same time, Natalie notices odd things happening in her home: items misplaced, flowers on her porch with no note, and a crash where she is run off the road. it's a creepy, crazy ride that will have you watching your children carefully!

I have previously read two of Sally Royer-Derr’s books and loved them. This one had me hooked from the beginning. There were lots of twists and turns and secrets with all the characters. It was fascinating to see how all of them interacted and intertwined with one another. The ending was very satisfying, and I would highly recommend this one!

Trigger Warning - Grooming, SA

I enjoyed this twisty thriller by Sally Royer-Derr but it did make me feel icky in parts.

Natalie is recently divorced, and just moved with her young daughter into a home close to the school she just transferred to work at. On her first day, she is introduced to another teacher, Lucas Hanson. Natalie already knows Lucas but he doesn’t seem to recognize her.

Olivia is Lucas’ young wife. They got married and moved towns as soon as Olivia turned eighteen. Over the past six years, Olivia has been catering to Lucas’ demands and high expectations but she’s tired of all that now. She wants to start making her own choices, but Lucas won’t let her…

Natalie’s daughter Emma tells her mom about the man watching her from across the street. Unexpected gifts are showing up at Natalie’s doorstep and she’s getting ominous texts. Who is the man watching her house? Has Lucas figured out who she is?

The narrative is told from Natalie and Olivia’s perspectives as they navigate their friendship, and work through their trauma. I stayed up until 2am to finish this in one reading. I won’t give the ending away but I had some theories and although I was wrong, I was excited to know I was thinking along the right path.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read this ARC book in exchange for my honest opinion.

I did receive a free copy of this book for an honest review!

I really enjoyed this book! It was not the first Sally Royer-Derr book I've read. I loved "The Secrets Next Door" so I had really high hopes for this book.

This one was really interesting because it contained a heavy topic of a teacher seducing underaged students and even marrying one. I was slightly hesitant with this book because I didn't know how the topic would be approached, but I thought the topic was handled well. Olivia, the student that marries Lucas, knows something is wrong in her marriage but can't accept it yet. Everyone loves her husband and she does too, right?

But when she befriends Natalie, a new teacher at Lucas's school, Olivia sees the hatred that is already in Natalie's eyes when around Lucas. Olivia is soon able to open up to Natalie who has a lot going on in her life too.

This book was incredibly fast-paced. I felt like by the time I thought I guessed who the person was I was then given more information that made me doubt myself. There were so may plot twists and so many different angles I was trying to look from to try to get to the bottom of both Olivia and Natalie's problems.

I really enjoyed this book, and will again read anything that Sally Royer-Derr puts out there, and recommend this book to anyone that wants a good fast-paced thriller.

Natalie is thrilled to begin her new job. But when she sees the 4th grade teacher, her past begins to flood back. Upon meeting his wife, Olivia, she suspects this man will continue to leave a path of destruction, but will she be able to stop him in time? Fabulous twists and turns throughout that kept me wanting for more. I could barely put this book down. Highly recommend!

Teachers can definitely be messed up, just like anyone else, and these are prime examples! This is the second book in a row where the Teacher and the School are central to the chaos. I’m getting a copy for my big sister, who’s a Principal, and I can't wait to see her reaction! If there was ever a predator lurking at her large High School, there's no doubt she'd spot it and take action. The writing in this book is so compelling that it makes every outrageous event feel possible, which is why I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Natalie and Olivia are the main protagonists, and I found myself relating to them, especially since their age gap mirrors the one between my sister and me. The dynamic works. One drawback is Natalie’s obliviousness to someone stalking her and her young daughter; it’s unnerving to think about someone moving your belongings and making you think you did it yourself. Who leaves a key under a flowerpot in 2025? Given Natalie’s past, that felt incredibly naive! Another point to note is Natalie's repetitive self-criticism; we understand her struggle, but it doesn't need to be emphasized so much. The worst one for me has to be why Olivia never tells Natalie what she sees. Really?

Despite these minor issues, the story is engaging and one I highly recommend. I hadn’t read this author before, but I’m thrilled to have discovered her. For those familiar with my reviews, a four-star rating typically means a five-star experience for others. I'm a voracious reader and tend to be quite discerning. Will this book keep you up at night? Not out of fear, but out of sheer curiosity about what happens next! I wholeheartedly recommend it! Thank you to #Netgalley, Storm Publishing, #SallyRoyerDerr, and #TheInnocentWife.

Meet Olivia Hanson, a young housewife to the highly successful and charming Lucas Hanson, a teacher at the local school where Natalie has just become a colleague. Natalie has just found a new place to start over with her young daughter, Emma. Running from her violent ex partner, Theo, she feels a new home, a new job, and new beginnings far away from his jail cell will be a welcome safe place to be. However, on her first day she realizes she will be placed in Lucas' classroom, she is thrown back to her own childhood, where she was romantically involved with her soccer coach...Lucas Hanson. As Natalie and Olivia's friendship blooms, we see they have more in common that they initially realized and they race to save another young girl.

I ate this book up. It grabbed me from the very beginning and I was enthralled. The characters were so intertwined and complex and I loved Natalie and Olivia. There were twists and turn everywhere. It is sent in three perspectives, Natalie, Olivia, and "Him." I felt the perspectives were extremely well written and switched from person to person perfectly. I did not find myself getting lost in the switches or confused. It is an absolute page turner, with the tension building from the very beginning.

5 stars!

However, please do note if age gap relationships and grooming triggers you, this may not be the book for you. Keep that in mind before deciding whether to read or no.

Sally Royer-Derr crafts yet another binge-worthy read! This is my second novel by this author and she is now on my list of must-reads. Her last book grabbed me instantly with the opening story lines, and this book was no different.

⭐️Meet Natalie, mother to Emma. Natalie has dealt with big challenges thrown her way in life, and she is just starting over. A new home, a new job, new beginnings from her frightful past. But what Natalie doesn’t realize is she isn’t starting over at all. Her past quickly begins to catch up to her, revealing itself and unraveling in hidden ways.

⭐️Meet Olivia Hanson. Olivia is a younger woman, the dedicated wife of Lucas Hanson. Olivia and Natalie cross paths and become friends. Natalie discovers they both have a connection.

⭐️Meet Lucas, a loving husband who everyone is enamored with. He makes sure Olivia has everything she needs to live a comfortable life at home. Lucas teaches fourth grade at the local elementary school, in which Olivia volunteers on occasion.

⭐️Meet Jake. Jake, father of Emma, loyal best friend, and husband of Candice. Jake is that friend everyone needs in life. He’s the type of guy who always puts others first.

This story is built on intertwining layers and deep-rooted connections. Sally Royer-Derr’s book of dark secrets, betrayal, suspense, and unknowns is one you can immerse yourself into immediately. The multiple POV’s and continuous twists make this an absolute page-turner. If you have not picked up a book from this author yet, now is your time! The Innocent Wife is out for publication today!

The Innocent Wife by Sally Royer-Derr is a tense and gripping domestic thriller that had me staying up late to read just one more chapter. Natalie is finally starting to reap the rewards of a peaceful life after a trauma filled past. She has a new job as a teacher support at an elementary school, a new house right across the street, and a wonderful relationship co-parenting with her ex-husband. Things take a turn when she comes face to face with the man who changed her life forever. Lucas Hanson is a charming, handsome teacher that all the ladies love. He is also Natalie's old soccer coach, the man who groomed her to be in an inappropriate relationship when she was 15. Now 20 years later, Lucas is married to a beautiful young wife and has no recollection of Natalie in the beginning. Olivia, Lucas's wife is a picture of perfection. Smiling and at Lucas's side, she sees Lucas as her safety after a troubled home life. But what secrets of Lucas's is she hiding? When Olivia and Natalie team up all the walls of Lucas's carefully constructed life fall down, and his lies and manipulation are exposed.
This was definitely a page turner! An intriguing story, multiple POVs, and characters that are intense make this a great domestic thriller. This was my first book from this author but definitely not my last.

The Innocent Wife by Sally Royer-Derr: A Thrilling Must-Read!

Sally Royer-Derr’s The Innocent Wife is an enthralling domestic thriller that effortlessly blends suspense, emotional depth, and well-crafted twists. This gripping tale centers around Natalie Amaryllis, a single mother starting anew as a learning support teacher at her daughter Emma's school. However, her fresh start takes a dark turn when she discovers Lucas Hanson, her former high school coach and abuser, is now a teacher at the same school.

The novel unravels the layered complexities of Natalie’s life, from her haunting past with Lucas to her burgeoning friendship with Olivia, Lucas’s much younger wife. Olivia’s initial admiration for her husband crumbles as she uncovers unsettling truths about their relationship, leading her to team up with Natalie to prevent another innocent victim from falling into Lucas’s trap.

Royer-Derr masterfully builds tension, weaving secrets, lies, and moments of emotional resilience into a story that keeps readers on edge. The narrative alternates perspectives, adding depth to characters like Natalie, whose strength and determination shine, and Olivia, who grows from a naive housewife to an empowered ally. The inclusion of a mysterious “Him” perspective heightens the suspense, adding an intriguing layer to the story.

While some of the plotlines wrap up a bit too neatly, and the pacing occasionally falters, these minor flaws are easily overshadowed by the compelling characters and the emotional weight of the story. The themes of friendship and resilience in the face of trauma resonate deeply, making this more than just a thriller—it’s a testament to the power of solidarity.

If you enjoy psychological dramas with strong female protagonists, heart-stopping suspense, and a dash of mystery, The Innocent Wife will not disappoint. Sally Royer-Derr has proven her skill as a storyteller, and I eagerly anticipate more from her.

Thank you, NetGalley and Storm Publishing, for this advanced copy. The Innocent Wife is scheduled for release on January 13, 2025, and it’s a book you won’t want to miss!

Sally Royer-Derr’s The Innocent Wife is a compelling story that delivers the twists and turns readers crave in the psychological thriller genre. With a strong focus on female solidarity and resilience, the novel offers an engaging narrative that keeps you invested until the very last page.

One of the standout aspects of this book is how it brings women together in the face of adversity. Royer-Derr skillfully highlights the power of connection and collaboration, creating moments of emotional depth that complement the suspenseful plot. The twists are well-placed, adding intrigue and keeping readers guessing without overshadowing the story’s core themes.

While the narrative itself is gripping and well-written, the title and summary might not fully align with the story’s actual direction. However, once you dive into the pages, the compelling plot and character development make up for any initial confusion. It’s clear that Royer-Derr has a talent for crafting tension-filled moments while weaving in themes of empowerment and strength.

Overall, The Innocent Wife is an engaging and enjoyable read that stands out for its exploration of relationships and resilience. Fans of the genre will appreciate the twists, but it’s the emotional undertones and strong female characters that truly make this book memorable. Despite some misalignment between the title and the story, it’s a novel well worth reading.

I have read two previous books by Sally Royer-Derr and was delighted to be selected to receive an ARC of this book. It definitely did not disappoint!

This was a very faced paced domestic thriller told from 3 POVs: the two main female characters and a third mystery male character. I was hooked right from the start and loved that several of the characters were teachers and many of the main plot points were connected to a school.

You know from the start the obvious ways that some of the characters are connected, but the author does a fantastic job leaving small trails of possible other connections that keep the reader guessing and needing to know more! The twists at the end were shocking and not something I saw coming at all but helped make sense of the weirdness I was getting from Jake’s new wife.

Thank you to Netgalley, Storm Publishing and Sally Roger-Derr for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review of the book!

I was very excited to be gifted this book by the publisher because I love finding new authors. I never heard of this author before however I couldn't wait to start this book. The plot sounded like everything I would enjoy and I was not disappointed. The weren't too many characters in this book which made it very easy to follow. It gave the reader much more information on the character development and the plot. For the most part this book circled around two main characters Natalie, and Candice. When Natalie takes position at her daughter's new school she thinks things can only go up for her. A new job a new city a whole new life it's everything she could want. However she stopped dead in her tracks when she runs into a man from her past that she thought she had long left behind. Her fears are confirmed as the man is confirmed to be Lucas, a man who seduced her and groomed her when he was twenty-five and she was fifteen. Now with a child of her own to take care of her fears multiply when she sees Lucas with the student helper at the school, Haley, who happens to be 15 as well. With her instincts going crazy she's determined to protect her family.  This was a very fast paced read however there were lots of character switches which I'm not the biggest fan of. My favourite character had to be Natalie. I loved seeing her deal with her past trauma but at the same time being a strong woman and trying to do everything in her power to protect the child she didn't even know, on top of her own kids. With good character development in a really good plot I found myself getting lost in this book As the story connects you between time frames and characters you will be amazed at how perfectly they blend together. This was a creepy book that will really keep you guessing as well as pulling your loved ones closer. This is a book that binge reads were made for. Great read the whole way through. This book gave thriller movie vibes so strong that I could almost hear background music. This is one story you will get lost in. I loved every minute of it and I can't wait to see it hit shelves when it gets released. There was so many twists around every corner and the ending was the best I never saw that comming and I was left completely speechless. Thank you to the author and the publisher for allowing me early access of this story. I'm so excited to read what else Sally has written and after being introduced to her in this book I know I won't be disappointed.

He is charming, sexy, observant, buys you things and listens to you. He really seems to know you, he picked you. The only problem is that he is your adult high school coach and you are a teen in high school.

Natalie has had to restart her life several times and never forgets her past which haunts her every waking day. When she starts her job at the new school, a man from her past is there to remind her of the hardest decision someone else took for her when she was a teen.

Olivia, Lucas' wife is sweet, kind, and very very young, just like Lucas likes them. She is a volunteer at the school where her husband works. She meets Natalie and they hit it off. What Olivia doesn't know is that Natalie and her husband share a past and it may be deadly.

Natalie must save the new victim that Lucas has set his eyes on, while trying to find out who has been stalking her, breaking into her home and befriending her daughter. Is it Lucas out for revenge? Could it be her ex who is Emma's father and who she sent to jail years ago? Could it be her new love interest Ryan who is a bit weird?

Find out how Natalie navigates these twisty and dangerous situations that put her, her daughter and The Innocent Wife in danger.

The Innocent Wife
By: Sally Royer-Derr

5 Stars

When Natalie starts her teaching job at a new school, she comes face to face with her past in the form of Lucas Hanson. She thought her crazy ex in jail, Theo, was all she had to worry about. She soon finds out, while trying to help a friend, that people are not what they seem to be at times.

Wow, this book was a powerful and emotional read. I loved all the characters, except a few of course. The storyline was crazy, and then, as the secrets came out, it got even crazier. It battles a difficult topic, and it does it well. I honestly loved this story because I was shocked. I can usually figure a thriller out, but this had me guessing until the end.

I loved the way the story ended. The epilogue and the message it sends alone is worth the read. You have to read the rest to get there, though! :)

This was a doozy of a thriller. This book follows Natalie and Olivia two women with connections to Lucas Hansen a teacher at an elementary school. Natalie knew Lucas 20 years ago and Olivia is married to him now. Lucas has groomed many young teens and Natalie is determined to not let it happen ever again. Natalie is also dealing with her daughter's father who is in jail and little things keep happening hinting that he may be out and looking for her as well. The writing in this book felt a little 'jagged' at times or kind of immature, but the story was interesting enough. It all wrapped up a bit too nicely for me and was definitely off the wall, but I can see many people liking the conclusion. If you like Freida McFadden I think you'd enjoy this. Thanks to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for this ARC.

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this ARC.

I was very excited to read this book, as I am a teacher and enjoy stories whose characters share my profession. However, this felt very juvenile in the way it was written. I enjoyed the multiple points of view it was written from, and the insight from the stalker without knowing who he was, but some of the dialogue felt very simple and could have been done better, in my opinion. I did not find myself eagerly opening my kindle to see what happens next, nor do I see myself hunting down other works by this author.
