I’ve always been on the outside looking in—a female tech genius meeting every conceivable human need for others, yet struggling with a basic fundamental necessity—connection.
My days are filled with code and algorithms, but my nights are haunted by isolation and loneliness. When I’m asked to beta test a new advanced AI system created by three brilliant and painfully good-looking colleagues, what I thought was a straightforward task quickly turns into something far more complex.
They started watching me.
Tracking my every move.
What began as simple data collection on their end has transformed into a fixation.
The beta test is over, but the three men can’t seem to stop.
Watching.
Analyzing.
Obsessing.
They saw my loneliness, my trauma, and now they want to breach the barrier and give me the closeness I crave.
But will the secrets they hold break our intense connection?

*** SOUL CODE is a medium burn, spicy ‘why choose’ contemporary romance. It is the first book of the Coded Connections Duet and ends on a cliffhanger. Some parts may be triggering. ***

I've read so many series by this author without my knowledge and the funniest thing is none of them worked for me. So... I'm ready to acknowledge that this author don't work for me.
I find her writing style to be exhausting and mediocre. Even if some of her books plots are interesting, most of the time (dare I say always?) the execution is usually awful. All her heroines reads the same, they are all alike, spineless, awkward, not like the other girl (insert every cliche possible) etc...
The guys are so lame it's insane.
I fear for my sanity, I just can't... Please, someone needs to help her through the process of developmental editing. I don't understand all of the hype. she NEEDS help... NOW.

Ok not really what I expected but in a good way. From the blurb I expected this to be much darker. It’s not. It’s cute, adorable and even though these guys are obsessed with the FMC and constantly monitor her, it’s a pretty funny little story. All the characters are very likable.

Amelia is a super smart woman that is so very alone. She works (and it’s some amazing work that makes me feel very dumb reading it) all the time. Even at home she’s busy creating. She is chosen by her a-hole boss to help the tech three kings at this company by being a beta tester for some AI software. (To be honest I could be getting this part wrong, my brain tends to blank at tech lingo.)

Oliver, Misha and Grey are all three different personalities that gel well together. They are best friends and each other’s family, and they just happen to be insanely smart. And they all want Amelia. Even though this is WC it’s very much a slow burn. Lots of character building and not a lot of drama until the end and it’s a doozy. So onward to book two!

3 (hotttt) nerdy best friends who become fascinated with their tech genius co-worker?? I now know what I’ve been missing in my why choose journey.

(Also, that opening scene?! I’ve never read anything like it. So interesting and immersive)

This. This book right here is what I’ve been missing.

Blake Black continues to write large casts of characters who are fully fleshed out, which is a feat in itself. I know when I download one of her RHs that I won’t be getting the guys confused. It would be impossible to! They are fully realized characters, each with their own strengths and flaws.

Amelia is an island. A lonely, isolated woman who is so relatable in her arc of choosing to finally lean on people. And the fact that those people are 3 hilarious nerds who she is assigned to work with at their tech company is even better.

I don’t want to say too much for spoilers, but man this book is well-written and has emotional range. My heart hurt for Amelia, Misha’s personality and relationship with the guys had me laughing out loud, and Oliver—arguably the nerdiest of the 3—is so endearing and way hotter than should be legal.

But then there’s Grey… the alpha nerd.

Woof. What a presence he has.

This author has *range*. Soul Code was smart, emotional, funny, and really freakin’ sweet. The FMC’s journey to realize that strength comes from community and not isolation is so relatable, and for some reason not the most common take in romance.

But it’s one I love.

Can’t wait for book 2!

I didn’t know you could make stalking cutesy but Blake Black has gone and done it!

These men are adorable and their obsession makes them even more lovable. This is a great friends to lovers with a FMC who’s a little broken and beaten down and some MMCs who just want her to be the happiest person on the planet and they’re willing to do anything, sacrifice anything, to make that happen. The tech piece in this one was a ton of fun too and added a lot of fun opportunities for the characters to interact and stalk just a little bit better.

I can’t wait for the next book in this series to drop! Because ugh that cliff hanger of a an ending! But it’s okay because the next one will be out one month later and I can wait one month (I think).

It is not often that I like an FMC, but even rarer when I can relate to one. And this...I related SO HARD. There were parts where I had to pause and sit back and just let myself feel the emotions, because I just felt so seen and heard. To be honest, even traits and feelings from the MMCs I really connected with. Misha being an insomniac...SAME!
Blake described this as a more fluffy read compared to her others, and whilst I can agree in part, I still felt so many emotions reading this! Whilst it is defintely less angsty, I still came out of this read just feeling so much.
For anyone that often feels on the outside and struggles to understand how to connect with others, for anyone that struggles with loneliness and finding their people, and for anyone that has a desperate need to keep everyone in their circle safe...I would recommend you read this, and just know that you are seen.
Thank you SO much for giving me the chance to ARC this, as per other works by Blake...this has consumed me and I can't wait for the next one.

I was bored; bored with the FMC that had no backbone; bored with the writing; and bored that the men in the harem fit into the typical formula that is so often found in RH's.

“You’re my favorite laugh… my favorite scent… my favorite face… my favorite person… my favorite everything…” I kiss her once more. “My Fave.”

Blake Black has done it again! I don't know how, but she keeps topping her previous duets with each newest release. She has mastered the hurt/comfort trope, and while I found this book to be less sad (and the MMCs easier to forgive) than the Soulful Seas Duet, my emotional connection to all characters was just as strong.

I had a visceral reaction to the FMC's pain - I felt her loneliness in my soul. She was highly relatable—the perfect combination of strength and frayed edges.

I adored the MMCs! They made stalking sweet, providing a safety net for the FMC as they were silent sentinels of her life.

Soul Code is a slow burn and mildly spicy why choose romance. It is part one of the Coded Connections Duet and ends on a cliffhanger.

One of my favorite reads of the year. Highly recommended!

Different than anything I've read

I am such a huge Blake Black fan. I will read anything she writes. Her books grip you and takes you on a roller coaster of emotions in the best way possible.

Soul Code is unlike any book I have ever read before. It is a reverse harem book about a girl named Amelia who is working at a company in Seattle when she moved away from her family home in London. She is super smart and working on an AI system in her spare time and coming up with something no one has ever done.

While at work she notices three guys and everyone else does too because they are hot, nerdy, and the prized workers that are really good at their job. When Amelia gets told by her boss that she needs to do a Beta test for the guys, she's nervous at first.

Oliver, Grey, and Misha have been friends since college and have been working on this project they call Jamie that is an interactive AI for your home that helps with every day things. Through Jamie the guys get to know her more and start talking to her and doing things with Amelia. Oliver has had a crush on her from the moment he saw her awhile ago and now the other two see what he's been seeing.

Amelia had a pretty difficult childhood and pretty lonely so she enjoys the time she has with ths guys. But when something terrible happens and secrets get revealed, what will Amelia do? Read this book to find out what happens. Another hit by this author.

I have to say as always if Blake writes it I’m going to read it. I absolutely love her stories.

These characters are so different from Blake’s usual characters and yet I absolutely loved them so much.

Of course they are all a tittle tortured and have their trauma because it wouldn’t be a Blake book without it. But I absolutely loved these tech nerds who were hot. Sweet and a little tortured by their pasts but also by their feelings for the FMC sweet Amelia.

Grey, Misha and sweet Ollie are brilliant tech geniuses who all have a thing for Amelia. I absolutely LOVE that it’s not an insta why choose. I love that they fight tgeir feelings, question themselves and value their friendship/found family in order to find the solution of sharing her.

As always Bake has the most brilliant and lovable side characters who you just absolutely fall in love with and this story is no different. Grandpa, Morgan and peanut are absolute gems.

I absolutely adore everything about this story. Blake truly has a gift for making you fall in love with her characters even the most stubborn ones. Also if it didn’t end a torturous cliffy it wouldn’t be a Blake book.

Mischa, Grey, Oliver and Amelia

I really enjoyed this. I felt this was slow moving at first and then I was cheering the boys on so hard. I did see part of the cliffhanger coming to be honest so I wasn’t mad I was just like okay now I need book 2 to see what happens next.

This is the slowest of burns. But I loved the spice. They are so nerdy and shy it’s adorable! I have a thing for the quiet ones I guess because I love Oliver so much. The others are just as amazing but he has my heart. 🖤

Amelia is so quiet and strong even with everything she is going through. She is so sweet!

I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Wow, just wow! Blake has done it again! In "Soul Code," we’re treated to a breathtaking exploration of women in science, and let me tell you, it’s absolutely inspiring. Our heroine, Amelia—the brave fish rescuer—shines in a world often dominated by men, and it’s exhilarating to watch her thrive alongside Oliver, Misha, and Grey, the three captivating men who are utterly enchanted by her.

These aren’t just your typical nerds; they’re incredibly smart, yet oh-so-smoking hot! It’s a delightful juxtaposition that adds depth to their characters. As the story unfolds, we dive headfirst into the immersive realms of VR and Augmented Reality, and I was completely captivated.

Each character resonates with authenticity: the shy nerd, the brilliant intellect, the playful spirit—all intertwined with Amelia, who ties them in delightful knots of chemistry and emotion. The connection they share is electric, leaving me breathless and filled with chills.

What struck me most was the unwavering support and strength the men offer Amelia. It’s a powerful reminder of the importance of having allies who truly care, value, and cherish us. This book celebrates that kind of love and camaraderie in a way that feels both heartwarming and essential.

And that cliffhanger? Oh my goodness, it had me on the edge of my seat, my heart racing! "Soul Code" is not just a story; it’s an emotional journey that leaves you yearning for more. I can’t recommend it enough!

“He background-checked me. Is that how hackers flirt?”

10/10, 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🙌💜

Soul Code is a why-choose, slow burn romance with three brilliant cinnamon roll men and a quirky, nerdy woman who realize their need for each other may be greater than they realized as they slowly entwine with each other in their work and home life. Amelia is lonely and lacks friendship or relationship with anyone (except her 12 year old neighbor), and Oliver, Misha, and Grey slowly become the ones to help her see how special she is, while giving her the care she’s never received.

Amelia, our brilliant FMC, grew up in London in a well-to-do family where she was always expected to be prim, proper. At the hands of her parents she wasn’t given much freedom and was made to be a trophy exhibiting their status and wealth, and their image in the community. Amelia wasn’t allowed to explore her creativity and desires because of her parent’s mental and emotional abuse, and she suffers quietly, and along the way isolates and hurts in more ways than just in her memories and mind.

Finally, Amelia is able to leave her parents behind when she attends university, and eventually makes her way to the United States so she can be as far away as possible from her family while pursuing her dreams of being in the tech industry exploring AR, AI, and VR. She becomes employed at Elysium, an advanced tech company. While she is brilliant, her position isn’t one of high expectations, but while she does her work in the office, she has even bigger plans she’s working on in the secret of her own home - something that will hopefully help her achieve status and praise in the industry she’s a part of. She’s a little clumsy, kind, and awkward, which makes her more lovable!

While working at Elysium, Amelia always sees the OMG men - Oliver, Misha, and Grey. They’re at the top of the company at Elysium and are leading the company with their innovations and creativity in their tech creations and ideas. While all three are so different from one another, they’re like family and have been together since college. They work together, live together, and love each other as brothers and are all three beautiful in their different ways. Oliver is shy, almost painfully so, and is a quiet observer. Misha is care-free, and a people person. He’s charming, and brings the energy to the group. Grey is grumpy, broody, and brilliant.

When the guys create a brilliant new technology called “Jamie” that needs beta testing, Amelia becomes the one to get the opportunity when her boss pushed the project to her. In her excitement, she is so glad to be a part of something that interests her and speaks to what she loves.

While their two worlds begin to cross, neither Amelia or the guys realize how each of them have been watching each other from afar. While testing “Jamie”, Amelia gets to spend more and more time with Oliver, Misha, and Grey, and all the while she doesn’t realize they may have access to more of her than she knows…

Will feelings more than a friendship grow? What happens when Amelia finds that the men she’s growing to care for betray her in a way she never even saw coming?

Did I pick up this book because of the art I saw on tiktok? Yes. Did the blurb really convinced me because I was curious about the tech stuff? Also yes. In the end, was the book better than I expected? Absolutely. I basically hoped to enjoy a nice enough read that would take me out of my slump, but was gladly surprised with a great story.
The main characters had a lot more depth and development than expected for a why-choose romance with just 2 books. One of the reasons why I prefer to only read RH that are series rather than stand-alone’s, is because of the amount of characters the author has to develop and make you like. However, in this one, all characters were very well done and I was hooked from the beginning. The slow burn was to die for and made the story a lot more believable. In general, the main characters were relatable and enjoyable. And it was so nice to have them develop separate relationships and get out of their shells.
My first book by Blake Black was a good hit. The writing was smooth and so nice to read, I was completely engulfed into the story. I did kind of predict what the cliffhanger would be, since it was kind of obvious from the beginning, but there was some extra stuff that surprised. So, I’m really glad I stumbled upon this duet and finally a tiktok RH recommendation that really pays off. I’m really looking forward to the conclusion of this series and I hope is as good as the beginning.

Ps.: I don’t know whose idea it was to have the little fish drawings in each chapter, but it was a genius one. They were so cute and funny, they made me smile each time without fail. A great little extra sparkle for the book.

Soul Code was a great beginning to a new duet by Blake Black. It focuses on AR, VR and Ai topics that I find really interesting, especially with how impactful they are today. Amelia is a very smart and sweet person, who is still overcoming some traumatic experiences from growing up with her family. Oliver, Misha and Grey are friends, pretty much each others family, and although they all have different strengths, one thing becomes very clear - their protection and feelings over Amelia. They are definitely stalker-ish when it comes to looking after Amelia, but let’s be honest, I’m going to ignore the red flags since they’re great! I loved this book and I honestly can’t wait to read the next!

Look, I'm obsessed. Love how obsession accidentally turned into stalking, turned into intentional stalking AND they acknowledged (amongst themselves) that is what they were doing along with moral quandary. Beautiful.

I'm so glad I waited to read until the second book came out, because I'm so excited to dive right into it.

I really enjoyed this first book in the duet. a delicious obsessive slow burn with 3 hot nerdy stalkers. I love how their relationships grow and Amelia is lovely. Wasnt any spice until later in the book, but worth it. Starting the next one asap, the cliff hanger at the end has me needy.

Omg these 3 guys are the sweetest!!! But I have to admit.. Oliver and Grey are my faves!
I was a bit uncertain about this book as I’m not really tech savvy so couldn’t get into it at the start. But I decided to persevere and as I started to “understand”, it all started to make a bit more sense.
I LOVED THIS BOOK! It and everything about it!! well kind of… This book ended on a cliffy and I’m a bit miffed about it! Lol I need the next instalment.. like NOW

I absolutely loved this book! I wasn’t bored for a second and already can’t wait to start the next one. The story had me hooked right from the beginning.

The characters are super entertaining and easy to root for, even if some of their choices are a little questionable. But that’s part of what makes the story so addictive: it’s a wild ride with a lot of heart. It’s funny, cute, and by the end, surprisingly suspenseful!

I was enjoying this immensely in the beginning. So much so that went and borrowed the second. Eventually, the cluelessness of the heroine and the absence of any kind of confidence by Oliver almost made finishing this book a chore. I'm not quite sure that I'll listen to the second and just may choose to return it instead.

I did like the fish, though.

genuinely no way is one of her pet names “my fave” this could have been good if the author didn’t use the cringe thesaurus to choose the cringiest possible options for plot and all of the dialogue

(all this to say i am going to skim the second one bc i wanna know what happened but i won’t count it on my goodreads bc i’ll feel guilty)

I've never read anything like this plot before! It gave me big bang theory vibes, but way better. I love why choose so much so I was already so down to read this and I really enjoyed it! All three guys are amazing and swoony in their own way, but I have a big thing for Grey right now.
The characters are all thoroughly developed by the end of this first book, which was awesome, and the writing is really good, which is no surprise because Blake Black is one of my favorite authors now.

If you love contemporary why choose and love nerds, I highly recommend this duet!

I don't know what to rate this... for me, it's maybe like 2.5 or 3 stars... some of the story is cute / funny, but most of it is painfully awkward and slow. And the FMC just spirals and spirals over the smallest interactions. The story itself isn't realistic... and I don't usually read realistic books anyway lol, but I mean yeah, if she was a super tech genius then wouldn't she have figured out that the guys were watching her sooner? She was just very very oblivious- to the point of being annoying actually. She's written like a 16 year old instead of a 26 year old... or like a very very traumatized and meek 26 year old...which would be fine, except then how does she have 3 men falling in love with her when she has almost no personality..? I kind of think it's more realistic to expect her and the AI tech voice Jamie to become an item. Lol idk. I like Misha (maybe not for Amelia, but i like him for me HAHAHA). He's kind of the perfect book boyfriend... whereas Oliver is just the male version of Amelia. And Grey is just there to fill the role of the 'bossy domineering' one. They all want to protect her, sure, but it makes me think that at least 2 out of the 3 of them would have fallen in love with any lonely single girl that beta tested their program - i.e. just being that secretly intimate with some girl's life makes them interested in her and intrigued to find out more and then protective when they realize how sad and lonely she is.... that could describe any 1 of millions of women, tho, am i right? lol...

At the end of this book, Amelia's secret tech has been stolen and she suspects the guys once she discovers they've been watching her, so she runs away to London, to go to her brother -- who has ignored her for most of her life -- instead of talking to the guys for 5 minutes. Sigh... and since her parents are spiteful neglectful pricks, I'm dreading reading the 2nd book knowing they're gonna be in it more... that sounds like the opposite of a good time... I dunno. I'm guessing I'll just speed read my way through it 🤷‍♀️
