How To (Try To) Succeed In Sales: My Two Years in Life Insurance

Rate this book
This book is not called How To Succeed In Sales, because I pretty much didn't. Don’t get me wrong; I wanted to succeed - and I wanted to write that book.

From my first day of selling life insurance, I wrote down down every sales tip I came across. My intention was to publish them and give beginning salespeople the inside scoop on what really worked. I'd share it all......just as soon as I succeeded.

Over time, though, the tips began to collect dust. Everybody has their own definition of success, but I never quite felt like I reached mine as a salesman; and after two years, I decided to say goodbye to the world of sales.

This book, then, is the story of how I tried to succeed, over the course of two years, in what can be a rough and unforgiving business. Newcomers to sales won’t learn how to get rich, but they’ll learn about some of the highs and lows they can expect as they navigate their tricky first few years.

On a more personal level, How To (Try To) Succeed In Sales is the story of me during two very educational years of my life. There’s pathos in it, and there’s also plenty of the absurd humor that shielded me from feeling that pathos too deeply. More than anything, I hope this book provides a light-hearted, relatable telling of my journey from not-salesman to salesman and back again.
