This author describes people as 'ignorant' while casually using words like 'simpleton', 'mental' and 'retard'. 'Kiddy-fiddler' was another inappropriate one.
If this was prefaced with explaining that his career started in the 80s and the language in the book was going to move with the times, I wouldn't feel as uncomfortable as I do but it feels incongruous hearing a medical professional use outdated words.
