True To A Gangsta

Rate this book

Harlowe St. John lives a quiet life as a sweet and caring medical assistant, but her world is shattered when her father, Arlo, crosses the wrong man—Hezekiah "Havoc" Caine. Harlowe’s world comes crashing down. Havoc storms into her life, seeking revenge, but he doesn’t expect to be captivated by the woman who opens the door to her father’s betrayal..

Trapped in Havoc’s world of danger and control, Harlowe must navigate her growing attraction to the man holding her captive while battling to stay true to herself. As the lines blur, both Havoc and Harlowe find themselves tangled in a web of secrets, betrayal, and desire.

In a world where betrayal is a constant companion and trust is a weakness, Harlowe will have to decide how far she’s willing to go to survive—and whether she’s willing to sacrifice her heart to the man who’s already stolen her freedom.

In True to a Gangsta, power, desire, and loyalty collide in an intense urban fiction romance where trust is a luxury no one can afford, and love is the deadliest game of all.

I’m not sure how I feel about this book.

Havoc is a complex character. He runs the streets, washing his money through his coffee shop.

Harlowe is caught in the wrong place at the right time. 😏 When Havoc comes looking for her father, she answers the door and he’s immediately entranced. So, he takes her! Not knowing that while he believes he’s in control, all along she had him tied up and twisted up for her.

As you get to the last fourth of the book, the story starts shifting quickly with very little detail as to how you got there. The spice is there but it seems randomly placed. Idk any other way to describe it. I won’t lie, I almost DNF’d about 40%, but wanted so bad to see how it played out.

I did like the premise of this book but I felt it was sometimes repetitive with the dialogue between the characters and the time jumps towards the end threw me off a little bit. I wish I would have seen more of their relationship develop as well.

Havoc ass was delusional but I do like them like that lolll!

Ok it started out kind of confusing and there was alot of repeating of the the same line from both the MMC and FMC but in the end I really started to like it I believe about 30 pages could have been cut from the total length tho.

I enjoyed this book.

I wasn't expecting the book to end the way it did. I really enjoyed this book. The characters were keeping me reading.

Book okay… a lot of redundancy😩 the MMC said the same 3 phrases about 50 times just in one chapter. Some parts of the plot/storyline seemed rushed towards the end

I liked the story but did I need the repetition in Nyaan "knowing better"? No. Do I think Havoc could soften so fast, and not just towards Harlowe? No. Trying not to give spoilers.

😩😩😩😩😩😩

I wanted to love this book all of the components I love were there kidnapper to lovers , dark romance , family loyalty , FMC fighting back , MMC who doesn’t think he deserves love 🥰🥹🥰🥹 the repetition of the same phrases and words made it read like a poem or something. Like you could predict when it would be written again. The language threw me off as well I ain’t this I ain’t that it read like a non melanated writing us. I DNFed but may try again at a later date because I’ve heard it gets better

2.5. The plot was good , the writing style was a bit confusing i felt like it was so easy to get lost and have to re read parts to stay on track. The build up wasn’t much considering this is like a kidnapping & forced proximity trope. I just wish it was more intense and more yearning. After she discovering she was pregnant i wish we got more insight on her thought process before the time jump. I just was left with a lot of in answered questions.
