3.5 stars for this PNR dragon-shifter romance set on a semi-primitive planet. It's erotic, but there is more than sex -- there's story. More story than I've seen in most erotic novels.
"His eyes narrowed, shifting slightly so that he could focus on her neck. Her pulse beat wildly beneath her skin. His ears picked up the frantic rhythm. Olek was careful not to let her see his dragonshifting abilities."

The world-building is clever, vivid, but not too complex. No big info-dumps weighing down the pace. The writing style is fairly accomplished, but I noticed half-a-dozen minor typos. We don't spend endless time inside the characters' heads. No major guilt trope (hoorah for that). The POV is 3rd person, switching between the hero and heroine. The language is not smutty (except for "pussy") which I appreciate (minimal swearing and no religious profanity either). The dialogue is good, but not tremendously witty or funny.

Quibbles: Sometimes I didn't like Nadja. She was sometimes unkind to her dragon prince. Even though she was sympathetic, or heroic, or just plain likable in several scenes, she cost the book a star, with her stupid unjust recriminations . Also, the sex became a long tease. It just kept getting interrupted! They finally finalized the deed at about 75% into the book, so they had time to build a relationship. I didn't care for the menstruation scene.

Also, the secrets. He kept secrets from her. She kept secrets from him. It created unnecessary estrangement. Note how easily the enemy was destroyed, after those secrets were revealed. So, her father clearly wasn't all that invincible. The big battle was over too fast. I wanted that evil psycho to suffer.

But I liked the hero, Prince Olek. Easy-going yet protective, sexy, and playful.
"Through her whole babbling tirade, Olek managed to piece her story together. She searched his face as if her whole life depended on what he would say next. Gone was his reserved Nadja who always had a calm answer. He found he liked the babbling version. She was adorable."

I didn't read any other books in this series. I just jumped into the middle.

2.5/5; 3 stars; B-

Well, this book had a lot of the elements I enjoy in a sci-fi/fantasy/PNR crossover; another planet in a distant galaxy, space travel, smart women, hot shapeshifting men...but somehow it fell flat for me. I found the main female character, Nadje, so annoying that it ruined the book for me. She had a gigantic chip on her shoulder, was unreasonable in both her expectations and narrow mindedness with respect to Olek, and could have ended her whiny, angry misery by having a few honest conversations. I don't know, I just felt that the author was contriving much of the angst in order to prolong the book.

I appreciate my GR buddy who recommended this to me...so often we are on exactly the same wavelength but this book fell outside that norm. OH well, better luck next time.

Nadia Aleksander boards the Galaxy Bride ship to escape her controlling father. When she arrives in Qurilixen she catches the eye of Prince Olek. His pulsing necklace lets him know that Nadia is his heart mate. Nadia wants a common man as her husband and not a prince. She is afraid that as a princess she would be in the public eye and her father could find her. Prince Olek is confused by her behavior and the barriers she puts up. Nadia cares for Olek and does not want to hurt him but she has to protect herself first. Prince Olek is a very kind and gentle. He desires Nadia and will do anything to get her to trust him.

Book Rating: 3.5

In the second installment of the Dragon Lords series, the focus is on the couple Nadja Aleksande and Prince Olek. Prince Olek is the second oldest prince of the Draig royal throne. He attends his first breeding festival praying for his crystal to respond to one of the human women. As it is not uncommon for men to undergo many attempts before finding a life mate at the festival. Olek lucks up and his crystal responds to Nadja. Nadja is a meek and romantically inexperienced human woman from Earth. She joined Galaxy Brides to get away from her abusive and controlling father who is a wealthy mafia doctor. Her father’s control over her reached its peak when an unasked for arranged marriage was abruptly forced upon her to her father’s lackey without any consideration for her feelings. She forced herself to take action against her father during her engagement party in order to regain some semblance of control over her life by running away and joining Galaxy Brides. In doing so she hopes that participation in the breeding festival will provide her a simple man, along the lines of a fat farmer, in a kingdom far from the numerous connections of her mafia doctor father. Unfortunately for Nadja, Olek is not a farmer nor is he fat. Instead, Olek is a very handsome dragon shifter birthed from a royal household and second in line for the throne. Gifted with high intellect he works in his family as a political ambassador while resembling Ualan but with distinctive green eyes.

Nadja spends most of the book trying to come to grips with her new marriage life reality. As she wonders if her decisions have landed her in a better or worse situation that where she came from. She fights Olek’s perfectly amicable nature by trying to remain constantly distant and aloof with her behaviors. She can’t comprehend spending the rest of her life as royalty and is worried that the controlling life she led under her father’s rule will resurface within this new royal household. As a result, she misunderstands many things about her new husband and how his brother’s treat their brides. While Olek misinterprets Nadja’s emotional needs versus her physical wants. All the while there is a looming fear in the back of Nadja’s mind that her father will discover her whereabouts and find a way to punish her for her insubordination.

Nadja is a sensitive beauty with an interest in botany and medical science. She experiences for the first time in her life the ability to make her own choices, except who she is supposed to spend the rest of her life with. While Olek is an honorable and dutiful son that wants the Gods to bless his partnership so he can be Nada’s perfect husband and savior. Nadja and Olek experience a bumpy ride as they struggle to accept and help one another. During this process they also hurt each other with every rejection and assumption they impose on one another. Therefore, the pace of the book isn’t for everyone. The courtship process is slow and drawn out for the majority of the story as both Nadja and Olek often miss the mark when it comes to being a unified romantic couple. There are many times when the only things they seem to agree on is their primitive sexual desires to jump one another’s bones.

I’m really enjoying this series because there is more story than sex in each one of these installments. It seems like the reader is rewarded with more depth to the Draig household and customs the more you read each book in the series. Which makes the books more entertaining to get through as long as you can at least tolerate the main couple. Although it’s very obvious that the relationship “push and pull” dynamic will be the same no matter what couple you read. Basically, all the women will resist any form of male advances and the men scratch their heads as to why they keep putting up a fake front because they are obviously sexual temptation personified in male form. No one in these stories really dislike their marriages to one another... Keep in mind much of the drama is contrived for the sake of the plot to create artificial tension. Also, the plot for each of these books shares the same timeline consisting of the start of the breeding ceremony. So, there is somewhat of an overlap when it comes to re-reading certain key story events.

Well the chance to read ths anniversary edition of this much loved series was one I could not ignore. The fact that the author has gone back and expanded the story giving extra insight and even more delicious steam just adds to the fun and then you look at the new covers and wow!
Nadja has been controlled all her life but when her father takes a step too far she does the only thing she can do, she runs! Nadja has a cunning plan though get on a ship and get as far away as possible and when she boards one that's part of Galaxy Brides it seems like the answer to her prayers. Quirixilian is a primitive planet in the far reaches of the galaxy needing more women and surely if Nadja can perhaps find a nice simple working guy maybe a farmer or something similar she can disappear for ever and finally get the peace she seeks.
Prince Olek of Draig believes in the power of his birth crystal and when it lights up for the delicious looking female he knows he will do anything he can to get her to see reason and claim him as hers. She's clearly passionate and yet so sweet with her blushes although as custom dictates they are not to converse too much on their first night it's hard to understand just why she's so adamant that he be a working man . As Olek is the royal ambassador he understands work but in the mornng his lovely bride is angry and feels he tricked her! Why wouldn't Nadja want to become his princess? More to the point just why is she refusing to share his bed? Olek has weathered many stormy confrontations in his role as ambassador but being a husband is his greatest challenge yet!
I truly enjoyed revisiting these characters and love that this expanded edition allows the reader to get much more detail and character interactions. Nadja is not kick ass or anything but she's a worker and truly wants to help others through the knowledge she has gained working with her father. Olek is such a sweetie. Perhaps not as intense as some of the other princes but he never doubts that Nadja is the woman meant for him and I think that it was his side of this story that made the romance feel believable . Does Nadja ever stop giving him the cold shoulder? Will her father find her? Not everyone is happy to see the Galaxy Brides and there's danger stalking the corridors of the Draig palace and it looks as if Nadja will have to make hard decisions .
Such a fun read and these books do all connect giving an even greater appreciation of just what makes these Draig princes tick. This series was my first foray into sci fi romance and it's still as good today as when I first read it. Love the characters and can't wait to read what happens next
I was gifted a copy of this in exchange for an honest review

ENOYABLE BUT JUST OKAY!!

Perfect Prince book 2 in the Dragon Lords series, is just a little better then bk1 Barbarian Prince. It goes into more detailed information about the Qurilixian the Draig's. The first two books are taking place simultaneously, so some of the events are the same and a bit repetitive. This could be so each book stands alone.

Nadja Aleksander is running from a planned arranged marriage. Her influential father Doc Aleksander head of the MAPH "Alliance for Planetary Health" wants Nadja to marry his colleague and friend Doc Hank. Nadja runs and signs the contract to become a Galaxy Bride and marry a Quirilixian male. She wants a quite working man and a small cottage in the forest. She is tired of the prim and pamper princess life with her parents. Or is her life with her parents more a Prison of punishment and cruelty? Once on Qurilixian she is readied and sent to the Mating Festive with the other Galaxy Brides. Prince Olek, one of the four Princes and son to King Llyr and Queen Mede is Immediately drawn to Nadja. the Crystal that the Princes wear from there birth is glowing and directing him to Nadja, to be chosen as his wife. Herein lies the problem and all the Angst begins. I just wished Nadja had trusted her husband the Prince to keep her safe from her horrible father. He was a Prince from a very powerful family!! Olek was very generous, handsome and sexy Prince. The sex scenes are well written and pretty hot. Olek couldn't change the fact that he was Royalty. Most of the book Nadja treats him horribly. Which in turn caused my dislike of her. By the time the romance turns around i'st to late for me to care. So 3 stars for Perfect Prince. I bought books 1-3 at the same time. I have 1 to go. I am not certain I will continue with this series. I will wait and see what happens with bk3 Dark Prince.

This is a well-paced, entertaining dragon shifter romance with an intriguing plot that has splendid world building with outstanding scene descriptions. The characters are interesting & the female character is realistically flawed to a certain extent but they entwine quite well with each other.
It is about: a young woman (Nadja Aleksander) was always kept under her father’s (Doc Aleksander) very strict control but she was definitely not impressed with the man (his associate & friend, Doc Hank) whom her father has chosen for her & promptly escapes. She boards a galaxy bride ship & lands up on a planet (Qurilixian) where she is later chosen by a dragon shifter (Prince Olek)
There is: a controlling father, a front for the Medical Mafia (Alliance for Planetary Health), Draigs (dragon shifters), Vars (cat shifters), fated mates, adventure, action, intrigue, suspense, twists & turns, drama, secrets, threats, danger, conflict, violence, death, deceit, manipulations, rebelliousness, escape, memories, loneliness, attractions, anticipation, confusion, misunderstandings, prejudices, unexpected friendship, advice, abduction, ultimatums, contentment, some steamy scenes & a satisfying conclusion. I enjoyed reading this book & would recommend it.

A good narrator for the audio version and she manages to read both the male and female parts quite nicely. I liked the story and it was well written, but it's not my favourite by this author. There are lots of descriptive steamy sex scenes in this science fiction/shape shifter romance, so be aware of that - I would have preferred a little more back story to balance those out.

I haven't read/listened to the first book in this series yet, but I felt this one does stand alone, but there may be spoilers for book one, as those characters appear in this story. The back story is on going, so I would probably start at book one if possible. I do love the Dragon Lords and the Var cat shifters and the whole connected world the author has woven. Very creative imagination. 🐉💕 3.5 stars.

Having read some of the books later in this series, I was always curious how Nadja and Olek’s story played out. I really liked the mystery/suspense aspect that Nadja brought to this novel. In addition to adjusting to being a bride, many other things she was dealing with really made the plot interesting. With smoking hot and sensual Draig guys and the lure of a HEA through the magic of the crystal matches, this story was a pleasure to read.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I didn't hold a lot of hope out for this one. The last one was such a turnoff that going into this one and essentially reliving the same thing made me avoid it. Fortunately, these two do talk. More specifically, the H actually listens instead of stomping around and bellowing, so there's that. Bonus, the h actually knows what's expected of her.

It's just that he's a prince, and for a h trying to run away from a mobster dad, this is not exactly ideal...

These books all run concurrently so differences are more nuanced.

I like the series or the idea so far. The story was good and I could see how there is room for a lot more. I loved the writing. I really liked Olek and his family and am intrigued by the other brides. I cannot wait to read more of them and have already downloaded the next few stories.

But I have to give it a 3.5 because I hate Nadja with a fiery passion. I generally read in the evening and read a book straight through. But for this one I stopped reading 3 or 4 times just because I was so annoyed with her constant ridiculous entitled attitude and pity party contradictions.

Nadja is on the run from her dangerous/overbearing father. On a whim she boards a ship of brides for parts unknown. When she finds out where the ship is headed it seems perfect. It is a small low-key warrior planet that doesn't really interact with other planets, much less hold giant intergalactic events. It isn't even part of the galactic alliance. That is until she finds out her new husband is a prince. She loses it because despite the low-key non-alliance nature of the planet somehow her arriving will be a huge sensation and her father will find her. After all she is the most specialist of the prettiest of perfect princesses of all.

Then she tells her new husband she doesn't want to be a princess and proceeds to make everyone's life miserable. She is a spoiled brat, a hypocrite and just a miserable B*.

“The only thing we will ever be, barbarian, is an unhappily wed couple,”

Oh Nadja, the princess who supposedly wants to be a hardworking commoner, how are thee spoiled:

Even Olek sees she isn't really being honest with herself about wanting a 'working' man.

She also decides from day one that Olek will treat her badly and acts that way through 99% of the book no matter how many times he proves to her otherwise. Admittedly her father is horrible, and Olek isn't perfect, but he is certainly not the evil prince she paints him out to be.

Nadja constantly lies to Olek while accusing him of hiding things from her. Olek 'hides' things by not telling her every minute detail of what he does as prince. While he never locks his office or fails to answer her questions about where he has been/what he has been doing he doesn't sit down and show her every contract and discuss every detail with her so of course he is lying and doesn't trust her. Why he would go over what he does with someone who hates him and hates being a princess is beyond me.

Meanwhile he straight out asks her multiple times if she is running from something and she always says no.

She definitely plays a very convincing victim throughout. She is hurt when he asks her to tell the truth, how dare he accuse her of lying! And why does she have to be a spoiled/pampared princess with no actual worries! Plus every time he respects her boundaries she gets pissed off. Because who wants a husband that listens to what they say and do rather than guessing her secret contradictory thoughts and, oh I don't know, forcing/controlling them.

I know it doesn't seem like it but I quite liked this book. And perhaps Nadja is redeemable, but it might take another book or 7. She does possibly show a bit of insight in the end. This is basically the whole book and why Nadja drives me up the wall in one package.

Nadja hated his inattention, but felt she had no right to complain. When he did give her attention, she batted him away. She had secrets she didn’t want to share. He kept secrets she desperately wanted to know. If they tried to communicate she would make him mad, or he would make her mad, or they’d make each other mad. It was a strange cycle they couldn’t seem to break out of.

3.5 Stars!!!

Hmmm stupid me I just learned that this series was first written by Ms. Pillow. I started the Lords of the Var first. But anyways thanks to that because I was not impressed by this one. Glad I've read the Var's first bec that series is way much better than this.

I was kinda disappointed with this, its like I'm reading the first book again just with different characters, yeah I know this story connects with each other but there are a lot of similar scenes that was mentioned again on this 2nd book.

Nadja, wanting to escape her father and an freaky engagement joined the Galaxy Brides for the Draig Warriors for there mating season.

Wanting a normal, simple life, Nadja was mated and chosen by Prince Olek, the royal ambassador whom she thought to be just a normal Draig.

I kinda like the idea that the Draig Princes believes with life-mates. But I was getting bored that they just met their wives on the same time and place. I wish it could have been projected differently.

And why is it that all the brides were stubborn and not happy marrying a prince??? lol

Hope there could be more...

I bought the audiobook version and i haven't actually read the book but here is my review.

Despite the fact i absolutely loved the first book now that i am in the second i am kinda confused....ok ok confused is not the right word.
Though i like the story and i want to learn what is going to happen i find myself getting tired with the misunderstandings and the fighting.
In the first book you could let this slide cause both the main characters were too much fun but in this one its just tiring but at the same time both characters are intresting and complex and you want to see what will happen.

Update Review

It's been some time since i heard the audiobook and i had totally forgot how much i love this series.
This book is funny and addictive.
I can't wait to see what mischief each bride is going to get to and what each prince will do.
Action packed, drama packed, love packed this book has it all.

Nadja Aleksander joins the Galaxy Brides in hopes of escaping her over controlling member of the Medical Mafia of a father. She set a plan in her head to lay low by marrying someone who would be a common man. Prince Olek joins the Breeding Festival on his home planet Qurilixen in hopes of marrying. After finding out that she married a prince, she becomes distant to her husband. I truly enjoyed this book. Nadja is a sweet, caring lady who is willing to help others. Prince Olek was very easy-going, sexy, playful, protective, and very easy to like. I never felt like there was a dull moment in the story. There was always a pull to flip the page. It was very sweet because they matched each other very well. Though, the idea of the dragon shifting was not explored much in this book, we did get some which was fun itself. Overall, I love how easy it was to love both main characters.

Nadja thought she found the perfect escape from the life her father laid out for and what she got was the perfect mistake in the form of a perfect prince in this riveting sci-fi paranormal romance. This fascinating world if full of captivating characters and the fact that they happen simultaneously allows the reader to follow the building relationship between the Princes and their brides, but also the growing relationship between the princesses which adds depth and gives the reader the feeling that they are part of the growing family as well. There is never a dull moment in the story and I was completely enthralled from the very beginning and of course I am looking forward to reading the next one.

Lords Anniversary Edition
By Michelle M. Pillow

OMG!! Michelle has a golden pen, I haven't read but two of the Anniversary editions and this one being the second of them but I loved reading the Dragon Lords series! The storyline is longer and is even more detail than the first books. I have read a lot of Michelle Pillow books and they have always been engaging, funny and very entertaining. All of her book are so well written and with so much detail and strength to her characters they are lovable, believable and after my own heart. The storyline is Hot and funny the hero is what fantasies are made of. Heroine is unsure of herself but has backbone.
I rated this book Five Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This series gets better and better with each book! I love the story behind the bride in this one. I won't give anything away but I loved how the prince was very easy going but strong also. The only set back I have with the series so far is it seems to, in some parts, go back to the first book and say alot of the same things. It is a series that you can pick up anywhere really and not be lose. Very easy read. And the romance scenes, whew, let me just say H-O-T! Very steamy in this book! I love that she made the "princess" in this book go from a shy woman to a strong one in the end.

Thankfully this one was better than the last one. I really liked how Nadja fully embraced the situation she found herself in even though she had no idea what she was originally getting herself into. She studied up on all of the customs of the world she was going to and she knew what to expect and what was expected of her. She was okay with whoever she would marry and, in fact, was hoping for a simple farmer or doctor. The exact opposite the idiot Morigan. Thank everything for that. Despite this promising beginning, when Nadja found out that Olek was a prince she became increasingly annoying because she was mad that he was someone important. And somehow him saying that he was a working man was a lie in her head. For all appearances, the guy worked harder than most of the others. Hence, working man. I was also aggravated by her refusal to tell Olek anything of her life and the reason she ended up there. For someone who was so adamant about honesty in their marriage, she was keeping just as many secrets as Olek was. And in his defense, a lot of what he kept from her was because she had made it vehemently clear that she in no way wanted to be a princess. Their relationship had a lot of one step forward, two steps back and that was just frustrating.

Nadja is the daughter of a very powerful doctor who doesn't live to heal. He has forced her to be part of numerous experiments and activities that she absolutely doesn't want any part of. Her life has never been her own, as her father controls literally every aspect of it. From how she looks, to what she eats. And now, who she marries. When she learns of the disgusting male she is being forced to wed, she knows she has to flee during her one and only chance. How lucky for her that the galaxy brides ship is right there and she can easily make her way aboard as one of the brides. She is very hopeful for her future.

Olek is the ambassador for his people. He has so much to deal with and was incredibly happy to be blessed with a wife. Things go really well between them that first night, but unfortunately the next day when he introduces the king and queen to her as his parents, things go terribly wrong. For days it's like they're strangers in the same house. Olek goes about his duties as is expected while Nadja pursues her own interests. When Olek uses Nadja's attraction to him to try to push for answers, he only makes things worse between them. Fortunately, the queen is always there to help and we finally makes some good progress with these two. I was surprise at what Nadja had decided she wanted to do what with her adversion to attention, but it was an idea that would be good for both of them.

We learn a lot more about the attack on Rigan in this book and it was something that I had never even considered. It was an interesting twist though. And how everything goes down after that clears the way for Nadja to finally have the freedom she had so been wishing for. Just probably not in the way she ever thought she would gain it.

Nadja, from afar, looks like a pampered princess with the world at her feet. But up close she is trapped in a golden cage. Every minutia of her life, including what she eats, wears and who she meets is controlled and monitored by her father. Her father is a powerful doctor in the "medical mafia" and when he announces that she is to marry his colleague, she realises that the time has come to flee.

Nadja ends up on the Galaxy Bride’s ship with Morrigan from book 1. Nadja wants a low-key groom, a miner, farmer or local doctor. Nothing glamorous that will be broadcast on the news and alert her father to her whereabouts.

Prince Olek, 2nd of the 4 princes, is an ambassador. He knows that having a wife would benefit him in his duties and dealing with offworlders. His crystal selects Nadja and he is ecstatic with its choice. He sets out to woo her and Nadja knows that if and when she removes Olek’s mask she is bound to him from that time on. She understands their traditions and knows he can't say too much but believes he is a simple working man.

The feathers fly when Nadja realises that he is a Prince, she believes she has fled from one cage to another. She believes that being married to royalty will bring her father to her doorstep. There is much conflict but also passion between Nadja and Olek. I also loved the rapport between her, the other princesses and the Queen. It was very much girl power LOL. The worst happens and her father finds her but will she capitulate or will she fight for her freedom?????

As with other Mandy books, this overlaps with other books in the series so that you see the same action from different perspectives. I took to Nadja a lot more quickly than I did Morrigan. She seemed to just make a niche for herself with the locals and acclimatise that much better. The final set piece in the show off between herself and her father was wonderful and I would have been disappointed if Olek removed the problem for her.

This book has the potential to be amazing, but I have a hard time reading a romance where the couple are this secretive and verbally combative. This doesn’t scream romance and chemistry to me.

The actual storyline is good, a woman who runs away from a forced marriage to her dad’s associate by taking the first space ship off planet. The young woman finding out she’s going to primitive planet as a bride. The irony of her hoping to be paired with a farmer or a country doctor, someone who would draw the least attention, only to be matched with a prince who is so attractive she can barely function around him at first.

The storyline is told concurrently to the other Draig princes stories so you have a general idea of what’s going on, but still are left to learn more about the other couples featured in the next books in the series.

I enjoyed the suspense of how Nadia was going to react to learning she was married to a prince. The gradual development of the characters was entertaining, but the constant interruptions while Olek was making progress romancing his wife got old after the first few times. A slow burn is one thing, but this book just prolonged their intimacy for no real reason. Intimacy between Nadia and Olek earlier may have helped them bond and trust each other.

The story was enjoyable and entertaining, but not one of my favorites by this author. I’m looking forward to reading the other books having gotten an introduction to the other couples in this book.

I did not read the first book in this series and I didn't feel lost.
I liked the idea of this story but kept like/hating Nadja. I didn't think Olek deserved any of the mess she dished out to him, considering the problems stemmed from her willingness to be honest. The story dragged a little for me. I also wonder if it was because I wasn't feeling the heroine. Nadja had the hot/cold switching down to a science. I could understand some of Nadja's anxiety when it came to consummation, especially with her history. I found their interruptions funny. Despite the eye-rolls from Nadja's antics, she wasn't always annoying and I liked many of the other characters and the story's premise. The conflict in the story seemed too easily resolved though. It was very anti-climatic. I was expecting so much more from Nadja's father. I also wanted his demise prolonged for the things he did to others. I usually don't speak about the editing with books I get from BookSprout, but this book was previously published in 2004, so there has been time to edit. This book needs a better once or twice over from an editor. It wasn't enough to be a deal-breaker for me, but enough that I noticed several places that were in need of corrections. I would still say this has some good elements to be a good read. I am interested in the other books. 2.5-3 stars
