Cailtin, però, è ancora tormentata dai ricordi della sorella scomparsa, dal suo caso irrisolto, dallo strano zio e da un'angosciante paura dei treni.

La tensione con il suo nuovo partner non aiuta.

Okay are we serious?

I enjoyed this novel at the bare minimum, enough to read the rest of them. I am entertained perhaps by how poor the writing is. The mystery and the crime fighting is good, but this is just sad writing; it got published though so there is that accomplishment going for it.

These books feel as though the author wrote about crime proceedings and protocol by her own imaginations of what it is supposed to be like. There is a glaring lack of research into how things are actually done; the phraseology was abysmal. The dialogue that occurs between law-enforcement and civilians was appalling; there was no professionalism, no tact, and a huge infringement on the delicate nature of active investigations. I fail to recall at any time the phrase "person of interest" being used, and instead the author always jumps right to "suspect" or "killer". It was ridiculous. Caitlin Dare should not be an FBI agent.

She does seem to lack the understanding of rules and is much happier to go about making her own as she goes along. The only reason things work out in the end is by the author's own direction to make it so. It's infuriating.

Another gripe I have with these books is that the main antagonist; yes the "Killer", all seem to be having gone through some psychotic break, in order to justify killing their victims, many of whom are women who find themselves on their own. If the story had women teaming up all the time, then there wouldn't be any plot; which may have been a good thing as to not allow these dull killings to take place.

Now perhaps if there was a way for the "killer" to take down two victims at once, that would be interesting and up the stakes for our heros to crack the case as soon as possible!

My final grievance with these stories is that we really don't get much resolution after the capture of the bad guy, and it is so much more satisfying to be able to know what happens. Readers are committing themselves this far into the book, the author may as well grant readers that satisfaction of a well wrapped up case. I digress, I don't feel like this author has the wherewithal to concoct a satisfying ending, as there isn't a lot of effort put into the research of these books in the first place.

These kinds of crime-solving stories are what separate the amateurs from the professionals.

It seems I am beginning a year of Mystery Crime Solving Thrillers thanks to the recommends of my Hoopla account attached to my library.

Young Women Targeted by Disturbed Man. Caitlin and Nathan are on the Case

“Come Take Me”
Continues the story of railway investigators, Caitlin Dare, and Nathan Bridges.

This time, young women with one way train tickets, are believed to be getting picked up, and murdered at small New Mexico train stations.

The pressure is on the newly formed railways investigation team ( once again ) to find the perp, before he strikes again.

On a personal level Caitlin is still dealing with her boyfriend, Mike, who was caught cheating on her, her new move to Kansas City, and her ( now ) growing relationship with her partner Nathan.

Can they find the killer before a third women is murdered?

Tense, gripping, procedural crime thriller.

The first two books I listening to on audio, and enjoyed them throughly.

There are a few things that keep reoccurring throughout these books though, that I have noticed.

Caitlin, continues to buck procedure, and get herself into sticky situations.

She also manages to injure herself a lot, through tripping, or tangling with the wrong person.
Also, I don’t know if it’s me,or that fact that this is my third book, but I kinda guessed the killer…
Or.
At least his profession, before Caitlin, and Nathan, so it kinda made me giggle a little when Caitlin two third in says…

“clear she'd missed some important pieces of the puzzle and, at last, she was seeing what they were.”

Finally.

Interesting to see where this will go, not only with Caitlin and Nathan
tippy-toeing around their growing feelings, but also the arc around Ella, Caitlin’s missing sister, who surprises! Also went missing in a train years previous.

This book has a killer who abducts women from train stations. Caitlin and her new partner seem to argue about everything but they are learning to be less blunt and protective of each other. Great page turner with lots of action.
