On the morning of September 1, 1939, Hitler's armies invaded Poland without warning. Chaim Goldberg left Warsaw that day on foot for Vilna, beginning a journey that would take him across the Soviet Union to Japan, living a life of constant peril and surprise. He finally arrived in Canada and eventually returned to Europe with the Polish Army to help defeat Nazi Germany. Told in Goldberg's own words to Jo Atkinson, I Remember Like Now, The Odyssey of a Polish Jew, is the story of a good, decent and resourceful young man, an exciting story of an unheroic hero. Jo Atkinson, a New York born writer, now lives in Windsor, Ontario. She was assisted in the editing of this Colin Atkinson, a professor of English at the University of Windsor.
