Gallifrey. Ancestral home of the Time Lords. Some have lived there all their lives, some have adopted it as their own. Allies, thrown together by circumstance and strife, have forged lasting friendships in the furnace of politics, alternate realities, and the Last Great Time War. Gallifrey is constant, but its inhabitants must change to survive. Perhaps none more so than Narvin.
Damned If You Do by Gary Russell, read by Seán Carlsen - CIA Coordinator Narvin is unwillingly called upon to find some lost students - aliens admitted to the hallowed Academy. But when Narvin and Cadet Kransa enter the Catacombs, nothing will be the same.
The Questing Beast by Fio Trethewey & Georgia Cook, read by Miles Richardson - Battling the Lord Burner, Braxiatel is separated from his friends as they fall through a multitude of alternative Gallifreys. He arrives in a realm where science is magic and there is a Dragon to be slain.
In Search of Lost Time by Una McCormack, read by Sophie Aldred - Old Time Agents never die - they just lose their memories. Back on Earth after her involvement in the Time War, Ace is having trouble fitting in - and coincidence seems to be following her.
Damned If You Don't by Gary Russell, read by Seán Carlsen - As the Time War rages, Narvin is at the heart of the action - but he has lost so much, he may not have the will to carry on. Until his past returns to haunt him.
Gary Russell is a British freelance writer, producer and former child actor. As a writer, he is best known for his work in connection with the television series Doctor Who and its spin-offs in other media. As an actor, he is best known for playing Dick Kirrin in the British 1978 television series The Famous Five.
These stories are rather like shining a light onto some unrevealed, shadowy corners of the history of Gallifrey.
Damned If You Do - Navin’s involvement in some of the early chapters of the Gallifrey series (see Gallifrey: Weapon of Choice) when students are the focus of racist and isolationist factions. (2/5)
The Questing Beast - Finding himself separated from the others (see Gallifrey IV) and on a variant of Gallifrey in which magic is prominent, Braxiatel must fight a dragon that is far more than it seems. (2/5)
In Search of Lost Time - This features Ace after her time on Gallifrey. This has been my favorite so far. (3/5)
Damned If You Don't - Picking up the threads from the first story in this set, this one nicely wraps up this series quite well. Set deep in the damage and danger of the Time War. (3/5)
This release also features interviews with the writers and narrators.
Narvin x Leela shippers get more validation, but at what cost... 😅 ()
Anyway, shipping aside, LOL, this was a nice collection of 'Short Trip'-like stories (i.e. not full-cast like the usual audio drama series, but rather each story all just narrated by one person each like Big Finish's 'Short Trips') that cover some interesting side-plots within the Gallifrey range. Definitely worth the listen (just like the rest of Gallifrey! 👍).
Very much enjoyed this series of short trips for the 20th Anniversary of the Gallifrey series at Big Finish. It really is one of their best spin-offs. I haven't heard all the Time War sets, but all the ones previous are among my faves.
