ive been putting off writing this review for days now because, even though i enjoyed this, i just dont really have much to say about it.
i continue to like jasalyn and felicitys dual POVs and how, even though each MC still feel separate, they complement and connect to each other really well. i also think the story itself remains entertaining and still does a great job at expanding a previously created world and moving along a previously woven plot.
but this is also a book that i will most likely forget in the long run as i dont feel like this duo of companion novels is more memorable than the original duology. so if you havent read “these hollow vows” and are wanting a fun romantasy story, then definitely pick it up!

This was a great conclusion to the Duology. I think it could have been a little longer and I would have liked to see a little more of both couples, but since this is YA, I actually think the author handled both storylines very well. I am usually not a big fan of multiple storylines because I often feel like the plot progresses too slowly, but both of their missions were so interwoven in this Duology that I really never felt that way.
I was still pretty annoyed by Princess Jassalyn’s character, but I was invested enough in Felicity and Misha’s relationship that I didn’t let it bother me too much. Jassalyn made so many mistakes and even as she was realizing that it was a mistake to be so secretive and try to handle things on her own, she would make up new reasons to continue doing the exact same thing. She would be a terrible ruler so I fear for any people that end up under her reign. 😅
I would honestly love to read a spin off novella for just Felicity & Misha. They were very “will they, won’t they” for most of this book, so it would be nice to see them happily together or solving some new mystery as a team. Overall this series did give what I wanted it to give though, and I would definitely recommend this Duology to anyone who loves YA Fantasy. This authors previous Duology was great as well!

I want to preface this review by saying I do feel bad giving this book a negative rating when it's an ARC, but I also want to be honest.
There weren't many things I enjoyed about Between These Broken Hearts. The time skip in the beginning started off the book badly, and it spiraled from there.
I didn't find the plot interesting at all, nor the relationships, which were a big focus.

Jasalyn and Hale's relationship was weird at best. They have a 4-year age gap, which isn't really a problem till you realize Jas is 17. I almost liked it better when I thought Hale was like hundreds of years old, since that's so unrealistic, it cancels out. I also just didn't like the characters individually.
Felicity and Misha's relationship did have its good moments. I liked the representation of non-super-skiny girls in a YA fantasy novel. They did feel pushed to the side, though, compared to Jas and Hale, but weren't very interesting either.

I am dnfing this book at 25% and really bummed about that since I love the original trilogy so much, obsessed even, and I quite enjoyed the first book in this spin off duology. I started this ARC months ago now and I only got a quarter of the way through it. Clearly not loving it. It’s so hard for me to connect to for some reason. Maybes it’s the fact that it jumps between two story lines and character POVS. When things start to get interesting the chapter ends and then you are forced to read about the other character. It’s a bit confusing, especially since I think I’ve forgotten key details from the previous book, and maybe could have benefited from a reread before starting this. I just lost steam with this sadly. I will probably still buy the beautiful hardcover when it releases, and try reading it again when I’ve done a reread of the other book, but this one unfortunately wasn’t able to grab me like I hoped.

I loved Lexi Ryan's "These Hollow Vows" duology, but the spin-off had me struggling. I was so excited to receive an ARC of "These Broken Hearts," though it ended up disappointing.
The fast-paced adventure expected from a fantasy wasn't there. The storyline dragged; nothing pulled me in to keep reading. When the battle scene arrived, it was finished too quickly.
I also struggled to connect with the two main characters. I wanted to experience more of that confident, badass female rage. The magic was underwhelming and not explored as much as it could have been.
I wished the spin-off had included more of Bree and Jasalyn's sisterly bond or a scene with Finn instead of barely mentioning him.

I can't remember the last time I cried reading a book. It's been awhile, that's for sure. And you'd think it would be for one of the myriad losses or horrible things these characters had to survive, but it wasn't. Those were sad. But it was a moment of beautiful, encompassing power that led me to tears.
I think I gave a solid 4-star rating to each of the previous books in this series. It's been a ride. But this finale was spectacular. It gave me everything I wanted and then some. The plotting, the pacing, the "it all comes down to this" moments. This is the kind of ending I need. It was very reminiscent of how I felt after reading the 7th book in the series that shall not be named.
I've never read another Lexi Ryan novel before this, but if her adult romances are anywhere as good as this series, I need to get on that. Seriously, she went from telling the story of one sister in the first two books, and still managed to make me care EVEN MORE about the other sister in the latter two books. And the revolution that they never asked to be a part of. Throw in a bunch of hot fae males, and I am here for it.

So much of me wanted to love this duology succeeding These Hollow Vows. But you know those books you can’t wait to finish because you just want it to be over but you’re just too far invested to DNF and you spent your hard earned money on it? Unfortunately that was this for me.
I truly love the author’s writing style but I just did not care about Felicity and Jasalyn and cared even less about Hale (Kendrick or whatever we’re choosing to call him today) and Misha. I’m completely uninvested in their love stories unlike I was in These Hollow Vows. I thought the dual-perspectives really hurt these books even though I typically love multiple POVs. The plot itself was predictable and I am so tired of Mordeus at this point I almost don’t want to ever reread These Hollow Vows because of it.
Anyway, this pained me to write so I’m gonna go read something else and forget about this.

This wasn't bad, but this second duology just pales in comparison to the original These Hollow Vows duology.
The time jumps at the start immediately threw me off, and I just couldn't get into either one of our two couples, I think I personally prefer to focus on just one. I did prefer Misha and Felicity over Kendrick and Jasalyn though.
I did like the concept of the (literally and figuratively) tortured heroine with lots of emotional and physical scars who lost the will to live, but tbh... Jas complains too much and made so many dumb decisions, I couldn't get over it.
Also, we didn't get even remotely enough Finn in these books, sue me. I was glad to be back in this world, but I just don't know if the extra duology was necessary.
That ending did have me on the edge of my seat because I just didn't see this end well, but the ending was pretty satisfying.

Jas has mere days to kill Mordeus once and for all before her 18th birthday when Mordeus plans to make use of her mortal body to return to his Shadow Court. Betrayed by her friends and tired of being used as Mordeus's puppet, Jas sets out on her own to set things right. Meanwhile, Felicity still must choose whether she will kill her father as she's prophesied, even if it will likely result in her brother Kendrick's death. Both women must rely on those they love most to help them, even if it is dangerous to themselves and others to do so, to save their world and keep evil away.
I enjoyed this book much more than book 3 in the series, and have similar feelings about it. Misha and Felicity were still my preferred narrative perspective, and I'm glad we got to see their relationship grow. The most intriguing parts of the story are the bits of prophecy/lore and hidden secrets that are revealed as the plot continues, as well as the culmination of Jas's and the Shadow Court's fate. Overall the plot was a bit too convoluted and attempted to do a lot in such little space, that parts felt hurried or unexplored. But it was a great bit of fantastical fun!

I found it to be predictable but fun, don't get me wrong, but what sucked is I only ever really cared for Felicity and never Jas. I just couldn't get behind her character and found her to be annoying, but I really did enjoy Felicity's chapters and story. The writing is fun and it's a good world to be in, but I just found a few plot holes.

I loved this book and will definitely recommend the series to my friends, especially the ones who enjoyed any books by SJM, Rebecca Ross, or Penn Cole.
Between These Broken Hearts is the fourth installment in the These Hollow Vows series by Lexi Ryan. The first two books focus on Abriella while the second two focus on her sister, Jasalyn. It's extremely helpful and enjoyable to read all of the books; however, you could just read Jasalyn's story starting with Beneath These Cursed Stars if you wanted.
This was a great ending to the series! Princess Jasalyn and Kendrick must find a way to defeat the evil Mordeus while Felicity, an echo who can shift into other people's forms, and Misha, the king of the Wild Fae, work to vanquish Erith and ensure that he doesn't take over the realm of Elora. Their adventures were exciting, the romance was sweet, and the world was full of lots of whimsical magic and moments.
The story was fast paced and picked up eight months after the end of book 3. I was a little confused at first and did need to review what happened in the last book to better understand where the plot was going and why in book 4. There are references to the past that intertwine with the new story, but I still needed to review the previous book to not feel lost. I got my bearings pretty quickly though and was able to move forward in this story.
Some of my favorite things were:
* the goblins: I love how they are used to help transport our main characters far distances and how they deal in gross things like nail clippings and pieces of hair. I might need a goblin novella to find out what exactly they do with them, lol. I found it funny how the main characters avoided traveling by goblin when possible as everyone knows what gossips they are.
* Misha's ability to speak mind to mind: what a quick, efficient, intimate way to be able to communicate!
* the blood magic and ring that transformed Jasalyn into the Enchanting Lady: these were simultaneously horrifying yet so very intriguing!

* there were so many fantastic supporting characters and villains that made this story richer! Shae, Konner, Brie, Amelia, and Squird, to name a few.
* the Grimoricon being able to transform from a cat into a locket that could easily be worn and transported was one of the coolest moments
* I loved how the oracle was presented in this book! You have to jump into a little puddle and can only speak to the oracle for as long as you can hold your breath. It really was one of the coolest moments in the book for me.

Between These Broken Hearts is the fourth installment in the These Hollow Vows series by Lexi Ryan. The first two books focus on Abriella while the second two focus on her sister, Jasalyn. It's extremely helpful and enjoyable to read all of the books; however, you could just read Jasalyn's story starting with Beneath These Cursed Stars if you wanted.
This was a great ending to the series! Princess Jasalyn and Kendrick must find a way to defeat the evil Mordeus while Felicity, an echo who can shift into other people's forms, and Misha, the king of the Wild Fae, work to vanquish Erith and ensure that he doesn't take over the realm of Elora. Their adventures were exciting, the romance was sweet, and the world was full of lots of whimsical magic and moments.
The story was fast paced and picked up eight months after the end of book 3. I was a little confused at first and did need to review what happened in the last book to better understand where the plot was going and why in book 4. There are references to the past that intertwine with the new story, but I still needed to review the previous book to not feel lost. I got my bearings pretty quickly though and was able to move forward in this story.
Some of my favorite things were:
* the goblins: I love how they are used to help transport our main characters far distances and how they deal in gross things like nail clippings and pieces of hair. I might need a goblin novella to find out what exactly they do with them, lol. I found it funny how the main characters avoided traveling by goblin when possible as everyone knows what gossips they are.
* Misha's ability to speak mind to mind: what a quick, efficient, intimate way to be able to communicate!
* the blood magic and ring that transformed Jasalyn into the Enchanting Lady: these were simultaneously horrifying yet so very intriguing!

The finale is here! Last year I had the absolute pleasure reading Beneath These Cursed Stars by Lexi Ryan, and this year I arrive to its grand finale, Between These Broken Hearts. And it delivers on all levels, from romance, to action, to adventure! I had a most excellent time throughout the entire course of this journey.
We continue the journey of Jasalyn and Felicity. Jasalyn must contend with her deadly bargain as she desperately seeks to end the villainous Mordeus, while Felicity must choose whether she confronts her destiny in killing her father, knowing the consequence that may rise from it. All the while both girls must also nurse broken hearts, broken heart that may just heal again thanks to their love interests Kendrick and Misha.
I immensely enjoyed following both Jasalyn and Felicity’s respective arc. While I’d say my favorite character is Felicity, I ended up most appreciating Jas’ overall arc. She really went through the wringer, but her heart stays strong has she is always willing to sacrifice whatever is needed to set things right for everyone she loves. Speaking of love, her romance with Kendrick is one full of angst, given his presumed fate to marry the human queen, making this most definitely a forbidden romance. But it’s one you want to see cross that line. To see them defy fate. I was very satisfied with its resolution, particularly in Kendrick’s determination to follow his heart, not the expectation of duty. He is never willing to let Jas go. Showing in both word and action his devotion. Jasalyn and Kendrick easily reign as my favorite romance in this duology.
And dear Felicity reigns as my favorite character. Seeing more of her true self on the page was so needed and very much welcomed! I related heavily to her insecurities and felt proud in how she expressed all her self-doubt. Especially how she bravely opened up to Misha. There is some miscommunication between the two, and while it’s clear from the reader perspective how Misha feels towards Felicity, he frustratingly allows Felicity to misunderstand him for a prolonged period. I wanted so badly to love their romance, I admittedly thought it would become my favorite, but I ended up not feeling entirely convinced by it. I would have appreciated more attention towards its development. Nevertheless, while I wish for more, I never did doubt their chemistry.
I was very content with how every storyline is tied up, no loose strings at hand. Well developed heroines, swoony love interests, easy to follow world-building, and intimidating villains to raise the stakes. I leave this duology very much satisfied, thoroughly swooned, and with a heart full of love for characters I already dearly miss.

I loved that this book picked up right where the last one left off. I was so excited to be back in this world. The characters are all unique and well-developed, and I also appreciated seeing some from the first duology. The action was fast-paced, and the twists and turns kept me guessing throughout the entire story. I do think some of the characters were stubborn, especially regarding the romantic aspects of the book. It took a while for both Jas and Felicity to believe they were wanted by their partners, which took me out a little bit. Other than that, this was a great read, and I'm so glad Lexi Ryan has written a YA fantasy series. I love the magic and the fae as well. This was such a great ending to the series! I enjoyed how in this duology there were two storylines with Felicity and Jasalyn. Jasalyns personal growth and healing was a beautiful journey and I think the author portrayed it really well.

I was very satisfied with this conclusion to the series. It wrapped everything up nicely, giving these characters the endings they deserved while delivering all the emotion, romance, and healing I was hoping for. But let’s be real, this was more than just a romance. This book came in swinging with a powerful message about trust, self-love, and the importance of not being a total menace to your own emotional well-being. Life lessons, folks. Take notes.
Let’s talk about Misha and Felicity because—oh my stars—their banter was everything. I was grinning, laughing, even kicking my feet at how well their dynamic was written. I love a good enemies-to-lovers arc, but only when there’s something real standing between them. Here, the ‘enemy’ label feels more like a technicality—there’s no true malice, just two people navigating a complicated situation with sharp wit and undeniable chemistry. And I ate it up. Out of all the couples in this series, these two stole the show.
On the flip side, Jas and Kendrick… I wanted to feel as invested as I was in the previous book, but something didn’t hit quite the same this time. Still, props where props are due—the ending was satisfying, and I loved how Kendrick and Misha both genuinely saw and respected their partners. More romance books need to take notes because, let’s be honest, communication is hotter than brooding silence and unnecessary misunderstandings.
Now, my one tiny, minuscule, but still slightly tragic grievance—Brie. Love her. Adore her. But I NEEDED just one more thing. A chapter, an epilogue, literally any moment from her POV to seal the deal. Throw me a bone here!
Oh, I keep seeing this referenced as a duology—this is NOT a standalone duology. If you haven’t read These Hollow Vows and These Twisted Bonds, do not pass go, do not collect $200, because you will be lost. This book builds on so much from the first two that jumping in here would be like watching the last ten minutes of a movie and pretending you get the plot. You don’t. You won’t. Read the first two. Trust me.
Aside from a couple forgivable plot holes, I had a great time with this book and series as a whole. The heart, the humor, the healing—it all came together in a way that left me smiling at the end. Consider me emotionally satisfied.

Between These Broken Hearts was a beautiful conclusion to the These Hollow Vows Series! Games were played, plans went sideways, and with mysteries and magic lacing the pages, it made this book impossible to put down! I love how strong the sisterly love was throughout this story, and the found family was so beautiful! If you enjoy YA romantasy, definitely put this series on your tbr!
Jasalyn faced an impossible future. With Mordeous having some level control of her body, everything looked so bleak. And with the ring not allowing others to remember her, she felt truly alone. I loved that she had those rallying behind her. Even if I wanted to hate one of them, *cough Kenrick cough *. But as truths came to light, my feelings towards those changed. Especially when we saw the lengths they would go to protect her. But I was terrified for Jasalyn. Time was running out, and there didn’t seem to be any answers in sight for how she wouldn’t die.
This story alternated between Jasalyn and Felicity, and I was invested in both of their stories. With Felicity, while I started out confused, I loved the path her story took. Especially when Misha was on the pages, he was my favorite! I loved how forward he could be and his banter with Felicity was everything! I desperately wanted to know his thoughts! With prophecies and trying to protect those they loved, they both kept me on the edge of my seat with having to know what happened next!
With unlikely alliances, plans made that put those we love in precarious situations, gut wrenching truths, and so much at stake, this book easily became a favorite! I cried happy and sad tears. And that ending was incredible! We got to see HEAs for so many within this story! Now I can’t wait to see what Ryan writes next!

I wish I could rate this book higher, 5⭐️ for Misha alone. But sadly, we have to endure Jasalyn, who gets 3⭐️
Giving a lovely average of 4⭐️
Misha stole my heart the moment he stepped onto the page. He was the only one who truly felt like a King. All the other courts and their rulers felt like children play acting in comparison. Even his Ex-Queen felt far more like a true ruler. I lived for Felicity’s chapters to see more of Misha, though I do think I liked their development in the previous book much more.
(Minor Spoiler Alert)
On a side note, where the heck was Finn this entire story. Where were all our powerful and scary characters from Hollow Vows? It felt like they had one maybe two cameos in the entire book and the entire final battle took place on their home turf!! Every meeting where Brie was in the room Finn would have been there 100%, yet she travelled everywhere alone. Also was she even the same character? When did she become such a worry wart and mother hen? Maybe I need to reread Hollow Vows, but I remember her being much more of a badass.
Also, don’t get me started on other plot holes like goblins being summoned in places where in literally the same chapter they were told the new wards in place would make it impossible.
I also did not appreciate any of the spice in this book. Every moment, and yes there were multiple, felt forced upon the story. Maybe I’ve been reading too much Brandon Sanderson where there is not a lick of spice, but I found it very distasteful. Misha and Felicity being teleported to a random spot in the woods, when the fate of the kingdoms is at stake, and Misha’s magic is seriously acting up (which is apparently not a big deal though it’s also super serious) and what do they think is the only logical response? Yup you guessed it… only to return to the palace the next day and plot continues like nothing happened. No one was even the slightest bit concerned they disappeared for many hours after a very important mission. *Sigh*
After all that, the story did have so many holes in it. Despite loving Misha dearly, I cannot protect him from the author with stars.

We pick up with Jas and Felicity 8 months after the end of "Beneath These Cursed Stars". Felicity was kidnapped and Jas had disappeared. Both awaken in different locations confused where they are and what has been happening. Jas still has the ring on which makes people do whatever she says and then forget they saw her, which makes it very tricky to track her down. Felicity teams up with the delicious Misha to save the different fae kingdoms. (can we please just have a book only about Misha and Felicity, lol).
Overall a fun and quick paced fantasy. I absolutely adore Felicity and Misha. I don't have as strong of feelings for Jas and Kendrick. This book was on my priority list for this year’s releases and I was not disappointed from Lexi Ryan she delivered👏🏼 I would suggest refreshing yourself with Beneath these Cursed Stars, there is a lot of info dumping yet answers all of our questions that we’ve been yearning for! The magic elements, the friendships, the hardships, the history, the character growth is a true recipe to a good novel. The duology tied in together so so perfectly.
This author knows how to write her fantasy books naturally and I will mention that in her author note, my heart ached for her and her family. So happy to say she has so much support in her life and to continue her writing💚
If you are looking for spice, reminder that Jasalyn is soon to be 18 and i think Felicity already is? There is some tension and teasing that leads to the spice! I wouldn’t say its closed door but just enough to get your thoughts going 😉

I enjoyed this extended duology a lot more than expected given it did not follow our original group of people.
Jasalyn and Kendrick’s relationship was sweet , I appreciated the way they came together to create sweet moments - even with the different to live with decisions she had to make regarding her magic. (Their age gap was a tad uncomfortable.)
Felicity and Misha were a tad under developed given how long this book was. While I realize the time jump may have changed some of his thoughts towards her - his essential blind faith in her being on his side of the conflict developed immediately was hard to reconcile with the larger mistrust at hand.
Overall, the pacing was definitely inconsistent (but when it was good it was such a fun read) and the countdown esk timeline for the journey did sometimes take me out of the story.

While I realize the time jump may have changed some of his thoughts towards her - his essential blind faith in her being on his side of the conflict developed immediately was hard to reconcile with the larger mistrust at hand.
Overall, the pacing was definitely inconsistent (but when it was good it was such a fun read) and the countdown esk timeline for the journey did sometimes take me out of the story.

🌶️ - there is discussion of sex on page but everything is fade to black. I would say this is upper YA. There is romance but nothing really explicit.
Between These Broken Hearts was the perfect way to wrap up the whole world of These Hollow Vows. The stakes are high in this final installment and the pace oa very quick and action-packed.
Jasalyn and Felicity are both strong FMCs who overcome a lot of obstacles and grow throughout the books. This is a great fae fantasy romance series.

This book (duology) consumed my every thought for days! The author took themes of anxiety/depression/mental health and engrained them into every bit of the plot flawlessly, down to her magic system. It’s inspiring and wholesome to see mental health represented in such a holistic way. Add in the adventure, plot twists, and characters you want to root for, and you have one of the best fantasy books I will read this year.
