Book one in a fabulous new series by four talented authors who are some of my favourite authors by the way. This series starts at O’Hare airport when snow has cancelled all flights, is it fate that four young woman find one table left in Just Deserts Café, enjoying red velvet cake and wine these woman open up about their exes and the betrayal and heartbreak they all suffered and a plan is hatched to get revenge, let the fun begin, nothing could go wrong surely.
Paige Parker travels to Cornwall to spend two months with Bella’s ex Oliver Prendergast son of an Oscar winning star who jilted Bella by text on the day of the wedding and she has some plans in place to turn his life upside down, firstly she arrives and takes over his spare room with a hamster named Flower who needs to lose weight, she hides the remote, disturb his DVDs out of their perfect alphabetical order, leaves crumbs everywhere and mess, then brings home a stray dog, she is determined to show Oliver, Mr. Grumpy what life is really like.
It doesn’t take long before Paige is getting to know Oliver and understanding him, but ignoring the chemistry that is building between them is way too hard and soon Paige is feeling very guilty about what is happening, after all she is supposed to be here to seek karma, revenge, how will she tell the Ladies of the Karma club and especially Belle what is happening. Her life too has changed in this short time after four years of keeping low she is finally starting to feel like herself again and that is all because of Ollie.
I loved this one so much, I giggled, I laughed and I cheered them on in this beautiful story, truly if you are looking for a romance that has a bit of everything in it then this is the one to pick up, it is sensual, emotional, fun and moving and a must read in my opinion, Thank you Amy Andrews for a fabulous story, I am really looking forward to book two by Pippa Roscoe. I do highly recommend this one, it brightened my day.

The story starts out with Paige bumping into a few girls while waiting for a delayed flight. Tired and frustrated, she grabs a seat at a table that just so happens to have three other women who have something slightly in common with her— horrible exes who double crossed each of them. After connecting through similar trauma, they each decide their exes need a little bit of their own medicine… enter in “The Payback Plan.”
Each girl is paired with a different ex and Paige gets matched with Oliver, her new friend, Bella’s ex-fiancé. After leaving Bella high and dry at the alter on their wedding day—and OVER TEXT at that—the girls decide Paige will be the one to exact the perfect revenge on Oliver. Making up a ruse that Paige needs a place to stay while in the area, Bella asks Oliver if Paige can stay with him for a few months… and since Oliver still holds guilt over how he left Bella, he feels obligated to say yes.
Knowing that Oliver is a major neat freak, Paige comes crashing into his life leaving behind a trail of bread crumbs and coffee rings on his bars. But as she slowly gets to know Oliver more, she realizes there is always two sides to the story, and he might have deeper reasons for why he acted the way he did.
Follow these two as they learn to navigate their growing feelings for each other and step out of their comfort zones to really LIVE their life. And realize that sometimes what’s initially meant for ill intent, can turn into one of the best things that could ever happen to you.
The only reason I didn’t rate this book 5 stars is because I had a hard time connecting with the writing style. The lingo was a little difficult to catch on to, and I wasn’t a fan of the third person POV. Other than that, the book was phenomenal, and I can’t wait to read the next one in the series!
A huge thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for allowing me to read this arc. These are all my honest opinions in this review.
I absolutely adored this book! Paige is funny and quirky while being real. Oliver is quiet and kind. They have great chemistry and the book had me smiling and laughing. I will definitely be reading more Amy Andrews. I cannot wait to read more from the Karma Club!
First of all I want to thank NetGalley and the author for the advance copy. I loved this book it was such a cute read. I loved it. Definetly enjoyed the pets lol made it more enjoyable. 100% percent recommend it. I did want more of the friends involved but saw that each one is getting their own book soo I can't wait to continue this series. If your looking for something cute and fun you should definetly check this book out. Once again thank you to NetGalley and the author.
What starts as a chance meeting in an airport turns into something much bigger when a group of women, all reeling from recent heartbreaks, bond over their exes and come up with a plan for payback. Their idea launches each of them into a new adventure—complete with unexpected friendship, healing, and a little chaos.
I really enjoyed the premise of this book—it was fun, heartfelt, and full of strong female friendship, which is something I don’t see nearly enough in romance reads. I especially loved how this group of women formed such a strong bond despite being strangers and living far apart.
Paige was a standout. Her emotional arc felt incredibly real. The author handled the heavier topics with sensitivity, showing how certain experiences can deeply impact us—and how healing doesn’t mean forgetting, but learning to move forward. Watching Paige reclaim her power was one of the best parts of this story.
Even though their scheme felt like a disaster waiting to happen, I loved following it unfold. It had just the right balance of humor, heart, and hope. This was a sweet, empowering read—and I’m already looking forward to the next in the series!
Thank you to NetGalley and Amy Andrews for the opportunity to read this ARC!
Don't read this if you are from or live in Cornwall!
Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC. This is a romance novel, primarily set in sunny Cornwall. Except, the setting of Cornwall is somewhat dubious. Whilst it definitely captured the mizzly winter months well, the main thing that got me is that there is definitely not an M&S in St Ives. Whilst this isn't that big of a deal, this type of thing along with other small things (West Country accent anyone?) bugged me! Thankfully, these were minimal. Cornish resident bug bears aside, on to the rest of the book...
Paige moves into the residence of Oliver Prendergast, son of a famed actor, and the ex-fiance of a jilted woman she met at the airport. I actually surprisingly enjoyed the story itself, with Paige aiming to irritate Oliver to no end, moving in under the pretence of needing somewhere to stay for a couple of months. I did find myself getting annoyed with how overly loyal Paige was to this woman she has met once, but I think that can definitely be overlooked.
"The Payback Plan" by Amy Andrews is the first book in "The Karma Club" series.
Thank you Boldwood Books for the advance reader copy via Netgalley. Opinions from this review are completely my own.
Page Parker is stranded at O'Hare airport during a snow storm and she meets three strangers with which she quickly bonds tales of betrayal and heartbreak. The women decide to make a revenge plan on their exes. So Paige finds herself in Conrnwell with Olly Pendergast, a grumpy recluse, responsible for jilting his fiancé on their wedding day with a text message.
This was a funny and also heartwarming read. I enjoyed the way Paige tried to bring karma to Olly, even if not all her plans worked. The first part was fun and lighthearted, but there are also some serious issues treated in the book. The story is told in dual POV, which I like in books, as we get to know the characters better this way. Olly started as a grump, but along the way we find out more about his past and the reason why he left Bella. Even if they were attracted to each other from the start, the romance develops slowly and they go through some issues before the happy ending.
I would recommend this book if you like books with forced proximity, grumpy/sunshine characters, humour and a bit of spice.
This was a good book and I loved the idea of karma! Getting revenge on a friend's ex, not much can go wrong! Right? The book was written well and flowed nicely. The characters were fun. Paige was funny and caring. Oliver was pretty spoiled nepo baby at first but I warmed to him as he mellowed out. I love Pavarotti the hamster and Casper the dog. The description of Pavarotti's hairdo made me giggle! The book is written in third person from Paige and Oliver's POVs. This worked well. Dual POV usually works well in a romance. I recommend this to you all. It was a fun read!
I highly enjoyed the premise of this book. It was a light and easy read although it did deal with heavy topics.
I think my only issue was Oliver’s pov. He came off as very cliche man when it came to his thoughts and not in the best kind of way. I could have done without his chapters.
Olive and Paige had great banter and were very loveable.
After a plane delay 4 women sit together and get talking. They soon realise they all had their hearts broken by men and that karma is the best dish to be served. So they come up with the karma club and it’s brilliant from start to finish. Absolutely brilliantly written. So funny and I had a notebook and took some well needed notes. Cannot wait for book 2
Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book! I absolutely loved this book!! I loved how Oliver and Paige’s relationship developed while they both became better versions of themselves. Looking forward to more books from this author!
I was drawn to this one, because I seem to have a thing for female revenge club reads this year, and being a romance over a thriller it could only mean one thing right! The cover also adds intrigue because look at that little hamster randomly there, which makes sense a few chapters in. I found that the writing really took me a while to get used to, there is so many long complicated words just randomly there, that I had to use my kindles dictionary more than ever.
Plot
The plot is very slow burn, and you can feel the tensions in the words your reading. I loved Paige and all the trouble she caused, I mean a hamster, crumbs and then Casper. It had me giggling at Oliver so much and how he reacted to her and her randomness, including the violin, omg, that had me creasing up. I look deeper in plots sometimes and the way Paige had try to deal with her past and photos, but then Olly just tells her something that everyone in that situation needs to hear. Moral of the plot line, its your life and you need to do you, not letting anyone dim your soul and turn of your light.
Characters
I loved the characters in this book, even though Olly did the unthinkable to Bella he’s kinda like a cinnamon roll MMC and really a softie in his core. I loved the Just Desserts girls, and I cant wait to carry on this series and find out how the others dish out karma.
Recommend
If you are after a Rom-Com full of ways to cause inconvenience to your housemate then this will be the series for you to get lots of giggles from.
Favourite Quotes
“ He’d missed Paige. Despite the chaos – the tea bags, the mug rings, the menagerie – it had been good having her in his life.”
“What was the harm in creating a little mischief for these men? For too long, too many men had been allowed to get away with stuff. Maybe they owed womankind a little cosmic rebalancing.”
“Those pants should come with a public health warning. You could have someone’s eye out with those.”
Favourite Chapter/s
My favourite chapters were 8,10,12,17 and the Epilogue.
Summed up in one sentence
Payback going not quite to plan and falling into the love of your life instead.
Overall Wrap up
I did enjoy this, I just wasn’t overly keen on the writing style. There was to many words that were completely out of place and made it difficult to keep the flow when reading. I loved the characters and especially the role the animals had to play in the Karma game.

Amy Andrews is a new author for me. I was attracted to this book by the plot, I liked the basic premise of this book, the first in the Karma Club series - it sounded like fun & the sort of book I enjoy reading. The opening chapter “In the Beginning” sets the scene for the series: 4 single women in their twenties, Paige, Sienna, Astrid & Bella, meet at snowbound O’Hare Airport in Chicago on their way home for Christmas & quickly bond over Prosecco as they share their bad experiences at the hands of their former partners. They resolve to exact revenge on their exes, forming the Just Desserts WhatsApp group (named for the airport cafe where they’d met) to share their experiences & progress. Paige (FMC) is to plague Oliver, who is Bella’s ex; his crime was to dump her by text on the morning of their wedding. Bella arranges for her new best friend to stay with Oliver at his home in Cornwall, which is handy as Paige is on her way home to England to see her family for Christmas.
The story proper begins with Paige arriving at Oliver’s Cornish home, complete with a cage containing her nephew’s pet hamster & various items of mismatched luggage which contain the tools of her trade: for her day job as a virtual assistant & for her new pastime - to plague Oliver & make his life miserable! She’s clearly put a lot of thought & planning into her campaign with Oliver, & there are a lot of lol moments as the story unfolds. I loved that Paige actually manages to create some edible food amidst all the chaos she creates in Oliver’s pristine kitchen! Paige finds herself settling into the village & making friends with locals, including the local Women’s Institute who are regulars at her favourite cafe in the village & a stray dog - which follows her home from the beach & unleashes all sorts of mayhem. However, it wasn’t in the plan that Paige & Oliver might actually enjoy each other’s company.
I found the characters to be believable & well rounded, I liked Paige & Oliver & enjoyed getting to know them & their story as it developed with all the twists & turns. It lived up to my expectations, & more. It was very funny, but also sensitive in its handling of issues around the failed relationships of the characters;, which led each of them to build walls to protect their heart. However I should just mention that if you are someone who is easily embarrassed I wouldn’t recommend reading this book in a public place as you may find you embarrass yourself by laughing too much!!!
It’s a great story & I’d recommend this book as a holiday read & to anyone in need of some light reading. I will now read more of Amy Andrews’ books, & I am also looking forward to the next instalment of The Karma Club - although that is by a different author.
Thanks to Boldwood Books & Netgalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book.
A fun and wildly entertaining read. I went into it expecting lighthearted revenge, but what I got was an engaging mix of humor, friendship, and a romance that completely won me over.
The story kicks off with Paige Parker stuck at O’Hare airport during a snowstorm. What starts as frustration quickly turns into an unexpected friendship when she meets three other women who, like her, have been betrayed by their exes. Instead of just venting about their heartbreaks, they come up with a bold plan—swapping exes and taking revenge on each other’s behalf.
Paige’s target? Oliver—the man who coldly dumped Bella on their wedding day with nothing but a text. Determined to shake up his isolated world, Paige moves into his house, bringing along her quirky personality, a chaotic hamster, and a stray dog. Watching her mess with Oliver’s carefully controlled routine was hilarious. From her colorful outfits to her unfiltered texts, Paige knew exactly how to push his buttons, and I loved every second of it.
But what really surprised me was how the story unfolded. Their slow-burn romance was unexpected, and I loved seeing their dynamic shift as they slowly opened up to each other.
This book had the perfect blend of humor, heart, and emotional depth. The friendships between the women were a highlight for me. I'm already excited to read the rest of the series and see what happens next with the other ladies.
I had a hard time getting into this book at first. The first 50 pages felt a little too perfect, with the characters instantly attracted to each other and everything falling into place without much conflict. I even considered DNF’ing it, but I’m so glad I didn’t.
Once it found its rhythm, The Payback Plan turned into such a fun, heartwarming read. The humor is spot-on, the side characters are vibrant and memorable, and there are some great glimpses of stories yet to come, which makes me really excited for the rest of the series.
The romance is spicy and sweet. While it’s not a slow burn (they’re hot for each other right away), their connection still feels authentic and rewarding. I especially loved the growth of the main character, from a woman hiding from the world to someone who fully embraces her strength. No spoilers, but it’s satisfying!
If you’re into fun contemporary romance with strong female friendships, a touch of chaos, and a heroine’s journey to self-confidence, this one’s for you.
This book is such a unique take on the romance genre, a group of four women who have all teamed up to take down each other's horrible exes. Paige is sent to Cornwall to annoy Oliver, the man who left her new friend Bella at the altar. Paige is so determined to make his life miserable, but the more time she spends with him the more she likes him... Paige is a force of nature, who manages to get right under Oliver's skin, until she realises that there might be more to the story that Bella told her. Oliver reluctantly agrees to let Bella's new friend stay at his dad's house with him, feeling like he owes Bella after jilting her. He's dealing with his own issues, loneliness and a case of writers block. At first he's infuriated by Paige who seems set on winding him up at every opportunity but somewhere along the way his feelings change. If enemies to lovers and forced proximity is your thing you will love this! I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for providing this book, with my honest review below.
The Payback Plan has me even more tickled after finding out the books that are to follow, part of the series The Karma Club, are all going to be written by different authors. My only fear is that Amy Andrew’s’ opener to the series won’t be topped!
The Payback Plan stands on its own, introducing us to Paige who has the worst luck ever. Case in point she finds herself stuck at the airport just before Christmas in the company of women she doesn’t own but who all share a commonality - wanting revenge on their no good exes. Paige’s has to be the worst and I can’t wait to see him get his comeuppance. In the meantime Paige is off to get Oliver back for leaving Bella, her new friend, at the altar. I didn’t expect revenge to come with a cute hamster or for Oliver to be so endearing - and I especially didn’t expect this book to be so hilarious!
I can’t wait for the continuation of what may just be a new favorite series. How the authors will connect the books is interesting to consider as The Payback Plan connected all the women but didn’t give anything away. Either way I loved Paige and Olly’s story which went deeper than you’d expect, but with so many laughs it is the perfect feel good book to tuck into.
Firstly, Thank you Netgalley and Amy Andrews for my ARC of The Payback Plan in return for my honest review.
The Payback Plan is centred around a group of women whom were screwed over by their exes, the plan is revenge. Book 1 centres around Paige and Oliver in Cornwall.
This book took me a bit to get into it, but after about 100 pages I wanted to know what happened and how she planned to mess up Oliver’s life.
The book is easy to read with some LOL moments (Hamster Facts) . The love story is nothing new- forced proximity, Grumpy x sunshine so if you’re looking for a brain break this is great for you.
Some parts of the story felt a bit clunky, and rushed . Also, I didn’t particularly enjoy Oliver’s POV at times. I was hoping for an explosive ending with Oliver, Paige and Bella (his ex) to truly get payback.
Will I read the rest of the series? Potentially, I am curious to see how the other girls get karma.
This is book 1 in a series of interconnected stories, all written by a different author. This is hugely interesting to me, and I'd love to read the series and see the viewpoints all coming together. We meet here 4 women who have all faced recent hurt in various ways by their exes. Paige, who is the FMC of this story, is a victim of revenge porn and she gets paired up with Oliver, who jilted his bride at the altar. The idea? Cause serious irritation to the male, and the ideas Paige comes up with gave plenty of laugh out loud moments. There was also plenty of emotion. For instance, I teared up over Casper! There's also some cheeky spicy scenes that were on fire! I really enjoy a book that can add these in well. I loved the resolution, super cute scenes that gave me the warm fuzzy feels. It was a really enjoyable read that I'd definitely recommend.
I was very intrigued to start this book because I really liked the description and I could picture myself giggling away whilst reading it. However, whilst I did giggle reading the first few chapters, by chapter seven I had lost my motivation to read. Nothing much was happening and the pace was very slow. The texting about Hamster facts was underwhelming in terms of humour and although I liked the stray dog saving, it also felt flat.
I wasn’t a fan of the MFC because I couldn’t connect with her. I could not understand why she decided to leave university because of the pictures and essentially hide and change her whole life because of her ex. For someone who’s confident enough to stay in a strangers/new-friends-ex’s house for three months and get involved with him, I think she demonstrates conflicting personality traits.
I was waiting and waiting for the romance to start but there just wasn’t enough angst between the MFC and MMC for my preference. When they finally did get together, they seemed good together and the 🔥 between them was evident. However it felt like the only reason they got together was because of close proximity and convenience and I felt that back in the wider-world, they wouldn’t have gravitated towards one another.
I did enjoy how the MMC called MFC out for hiding away and punishing herself over the pictures. The MFC reaction to it seemed childish - the fact she felt the need to ‘make a point’ and felt moments of triumph over it - didn’t change my mind or my opinion of her.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the eARC.
This is a fun, energetic, and comforting read. The book starts with four female strangers meeting at O'Hare Airport, who end up sharing a table at a restaurant. They start talking and end up sharing their experiences with their exes and how they were betrayed—one was left at the altar, another had her nudes shared publicly, one discovered her partner was married, and another was simply discarded without explanation. As they drink and bond over their stories, they devise a plan to take revenge on the men—by swapping them and getting payback on each other's behalf. And just like that, the stage is set. This book follows the payback plan for Oliver, who heartlessly jilted Bella at the altar via text. Paige takes on the mission to get revenge by moving into his house. The story never stops surprising you with Paige's creative ways to annoy Oliver—from bringing along her pet hamster, to adopting a random dog off the street, sending weird hamster-related texts, and wearing the most colorful, quirky clothes. Amid all the chaos, they start getting to know each other. Paige begins to understand Oliver on a deeper level. She feels sympathy for his situation, but she’s also still concerned for Bella. Overall, this book is a good ride!
First of all I LOVE the premise as well as the whole concept of this series: 4 strangers become fast friends at an airport by sharing the stories of their horrible exes and decide to exact a little vengeance on each other's behalf. Each character gets their own book which is written by a different author.
This is book one and it was an adorable read. Paige shows up for a stay at Oliver's pristine home and create a little chaos: disrupting his organization system, abusing the violin as if she didn't know how to play it, adopting a stray dog, bombarding him with hamster trivia, etc. As this is a romance, of course they end up falling for each other. Overall it was very cute and plenty of comic relief as well a tiny bit of spice.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC review! I’m giving this 3-3.5; I really enjoyed the idea and the plot of the book but some parts were just hard to get through in the sense of it feeling like a drag. I wish there was more on the four friends as well. It was still a great book but I did find it difficult to really get into this book and dive into the story - I enjoyed the beginning a lot but I don’t think I’m a fan of the main male character. Im not sure if I’ll read the rest of the series but I believe that t is done by different authors (maybe) so TBD. Overall, not too bad but not the best I have read either.
Paige, Bella, Astrid and Sienna meet at the airport and bond over their mishaps with men. And all decide to teach the men who hurt them a lesson.
Paige is tasked with teaching Bella’s ex Oliver a lesson after he jilted her at the altar by text!!!
But as Paige and Oliver get closer, how will Bella react and will it continue after Oliver find out about the payback plan?? Will they find there way back to each other or not
I loved this book, it was so good and super funny. The bit that made me chuckle the most was about the toilet roll and the correct way to do it which is obviously over the top not underneath.
4.5* absolutely loved this book so much that I couldn’t put it down and finished it in one sitting.
The premise of the book is fantastic and I already cannot wait to read the rest of the Karma Club series.
Paige is absolutely hell bent on ruining Oliver’s life in revenge for him jilting his ex on their wedding day by text! But as she spends more and more time with him, her feelings start to change. I love the build up of their relationship especially with Caspar and Pavarotti.
Would highly recommend for anyone who loves a quick humorous romance.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood books for my arc.
⭐3.5. This series is a really fun concept. Four women randomly sit at the same table at an airport. A few drinks and a long chat later, they've hatched a plan to get revenge on each of their exes, some who've done some pretty heinous things! They each take another woman's ex, so the payback will be anonymous.
We start with Paige, taking on Bella's ex, Olly, who left her at the alter. Eeek! Paige wants to get him back with millions of little annoying things while she stays with him for a couple months. Some of her little annoyances were pretty entertaining, some backfired a bit and worked in the opposite way!
In this dual POV story, there is a beautiful beach-side house, a chubby hamster, and a cute, but very smart doggo.
While obviously I knew where this would end up, I still enjoyed the read, seeing how Paige and Oliver get closer throughout the book, and how they each try to fight it. Both of them also go through their own personal hurdles and they actually help each other get through them, and that was nice to see. I liked Oliver's character a bit more than Paige... she seemed slightly annoying to me (and not just because she was intentionally being that way!). He's a nice guy who did a bad thing. I love the small town where Oliver lives, the townspeople sound lovely!
I liked the writing style, it was easy to follow, kept me engaged. There were many references I enjoyed, and there's a whole thing about the feminism of an Outlander episode that I really liked reading!
I'm looking forward to the rest of the book in this Karma Club series, each book is written by a different author, and they are all new-to-me. I can't wait to see what Bella, Astrid, and Sienna get up to! Especially Sienna's book, where she takes on "Harvey the horrible" - Paige's ex.
"A waiter was withdrawing after just having wiped it down and it shone under the bright lights like a Taylor Swift arena, beckoning her inside." I like the references used in this story 😆
"My point being, get the damn Oscar down and spread some of that Hollywood stardust around to some little old ladies"
To just desserts!
