The threat of the Raiders has been ever looming, and now they've made their move. Rudo has been kidnapped! But he wasn't alone, and each Cleaner who was also taken must first defeat the Raider sent to stop them if they want to have any hope of reuniting. Meanwhile, the Raiders' boss has a tempting proposal for Rudo: Take down the Sphere...together!
Book caught fire while reading. Gachiakuta solo's any book. Reading this series is a pregnant woman finally eating the snack she's been craving. This banger really hits the spot.
If I’m totally honest I think the plot drags on a bit but I’m so totally awed by the raw energy of the art that I don’t care that much.
1v1 fights in this volume with something of a pacing problem: next volume is in 2 months and the main fight here being Zanka’s I will have forgotten where the others stand meanwhile-Riyo for example is left in a cliffhanger situation at mid-book. That’d be Urana’s main problem so far: she is a pure killing machine when drawing action scenes but pacing and in-betweens could be improved for clarity’s sake.
Most of the cleaners seem to be in deep shit—facing antagonists that are much stronger than they are. This seems to be especially the case with Riyo and Zanka. Things are not looking good for them 😅
The face off between Zanka and Jabber was especially tense. Jabber is, once again, feral and unhinged. He has 0 chill at any given moment. Zanka was holding his own pretty well for a while there, but then Jabber truly kicked his ass 😩
I appreciated, though, getting some background info on Zanka. He seemed so obviously different from the other cleaners, but up to this point we didn’t really know much about him. However, his background and training contextualize why he’s the way he is. He wants to be stronger and be able to match and beat people who are “innately” stronger than him, but he can’t always quite measure up despite how much he wants to. It all stems from this notion that as the son of important members of the Hell Guard, he should be the strongest of all. Up until a certain point, he had succeeded in being the strongest of the trainees and bound to receive recognition for that…but his plans got thwarted by someone stronger. I don’t know…it all just fits him so well 🤷🏻♀️
Finally, I could not end this review without mentioning The Roach Incident. What is The Roach Incident? Well it’s my man Zodyl quite literally biting into and swallowing a roach 🤢 He’s still my man, but that was nasty as hell. It proved his point tho 😭 I will give him that. So, like, a win is a win? I guess.
This was a good volume. It started out slow (to me), but the last bit made up for it. Most of the volume focuses on the various fights between the Cleaners and the Raiders.
I was kind of annoyed, if I’m honest. It didn’t feel like anything was happening, other than the fights. I enjoy a good fight scene, but I also like plot. And we were getting bits of plot here and there, but it wasn’t much and none of the fights had even concluded, so it felt almost like a filler volume.
Then we got to the last two chapters. We’re getting Zanka’s origin story. When I reached the end of the volume I literally said “Noooo! Now I have to wait for the next volume to be released!” It ended strong is what I’m saying. I’m looking forward to the next volume.
The 1 Vs 1 battles are well underway (mostly) and they are so intense! I'm loving seeing Zanka and Jabber's rematch, and we're getting some of Zanka's backstory too as well as the story behind his Vital Instrument. I'm so curious about Zodyl Typhon and his motives. It's so action packed, as usual the art is insane in the best of ways. So good, but that cliffhanger has left me desperate for more as usual!
That Jabber guy is sick in the head, holy moly. I'm a curious person, and I'm clumsy enough to hurt myself on the regular, but I would never stick my own hand into suspicious substances to see what it does. At least get a stick or a rock, or something?! Also, trash religion is something else, but I guess that would happen because humans are humans.
