This seemed like it would be so much fun, and it so was not. I have no idea what happened, what was going on, what the stakes were, or how it ended. WTF? Editors, where are you????
Well, that was disappointing. I liked Dastmalchian's Count Crowley series. This is a new team of Creature Commandos unrelated to the cartoon or past iterations of the comics. It's real generic, boiler plate stuff. Some monsters get forced into doing Suicide Squad type stuff for the government. Braniac is the villain for some reason. The art is terrible. It has this retro but utterly messy look that makes it hard to determine what's happening.
Twór podobny do Frankensteina.
W dodatku nieatrakcyjnej wizualnie.
Need to know where Brainiac is after getting handed a righteous beatdown by Superman?
He's weaponizing humans and making them go 'BOOM!' (along with his alien monkey Koko) Better make this relevant to the 'All In' storyline and connect it in there some way. ----- Cheat sheet version: An an obsessive scientist (with a heart of gold?) researches ways to maximize the potential of supernaturals. She's got a 'frankenstein' soldier, an emo vampire, and a werewolf. Sounds like the start to a bad joke, but it's just the standard Creature Commandos plot, whatever era it's written. Throw in General Eilig trying to use them for the US government....
and TADA! You'll forget about this miniseries minutes after you read it ======= Bonus: Special appearance by Zatanna Bonus Bonus: No 'Shaggy Man' Eilig? That was classic 2000's JLA
This title was brought back probably because of the HBO series, because it really doesn't offer much that you can't find in the older versions of the series. They're still U.S. military property, and in conflict with those who are sending them out as expendable soldiers.
Just, if you're going to use the government as the bad guys make them at least somewhat interesting so that a reader I feel more vested in the protagonists.
Very nice try at tackling some obscure corner of the DC universe Mr. Dastmalchian; now do your best to convince James Gunn you need to play Vincent Velcro the vampire! Classic horror monster-types vs Brainiac. The hype builds itself. I'm surprised DC didn't make David tie it more into the Creature Commandos series on HBO, but maybe they were just hoping that the name recognition AND its famous writer would be enough for people to pick up the book.
DC Horror Presents Creature Commandos collects issues 1-6 of the DC Comic series written by David Dastmachian, art by Jesús Hervás, and colors by Alex Guimarāes.
A team of monsters and genetic experiments dubbed Project M must come together to defeat Brainiac.
I’m not going to sit here and destroy this book but simply know it’s not good. I really like David Dastmachian and I think he has a lot of talent so I’m not sure what happened here. There is a wealth of characters in DC Comics vast multiverse and this was full of incredibly generic characters that had no depth. The book was full of exposition and characters arguing that went nowhere. The art was also chaotic and often hard to follow. This just goes to show that it can be incredibly hard to make a good comic book.
It was like a subpar version of the Suicide Squad if the Suicide Squad consisted only of characters that you knew nothing about and did not particularly like based on what you do know.
Vampire, Medussa, Werewolf and Frankenstein monster are put together by the military to be used as disposable assets in a mission to recover deadly weapons from Brainiac!
An overall good reboot/revamp of Creature Commandos but the art in the fighting scenes is a little disorienting and the pacing/structure is a little mixed and didn't leave for as good or satisfying an ending as I was hoping for.
