Poppy and Mary Ellen: All Fed Up

Rate this book
Welcome back to one of Michigan’s most famous and popular tourist towns. It’s hard to believe it has only 5,000 residents. Poppy and Mary Ellen earned a reputation for themselves in the last book when they helped the police solve a double homicide, even beating the police to the capture. This time, though, Poppy finds herself topping the suspect list of the murder of a Mah Jongg-playing tourist.

Some familiar characters are back, both canine and human, and there’s even some romance in the air that might surprise readers.

Those who play Mah Jongg and follow conversations about “friendly games” will find themselves laughing out loud.

Although by far most of the story takes place in the popular and quirky confines of Frankenmuth, readers get to travel all the way to Nairobi in Book Two. Like Book One, everyone will need their seatbelts. It’s going to be a bumpy ride.

Roz Weedman lives in Frankenmuth, Michigan. She worked for thirteen years as a legal secretary, continued her education at the University of Michigan, and eventually retired from her position as a professor of English after twenty years of focusing on teaching writing and American literature. For fun, she reads cozy mysteries and spy novels. She also has the privilege of living with the real-life Boston terrier, Cookie, who attends to her many duties in town. Roz loves playing mah-jongg with her friends and grandkids, always considering Bubbe Fischer's advice: "If you can't win, don't lose." If you're in Frankenmuth, her white minivan with the Mahj license plate will be parked askew somewhere nearby. Stop in and say hi!

If you have a heart for detective fiction, quaint tourist towns, and quirky female protagonists, this book is for you! Lovers of dogs, mahjongg, and all things Frankenmuth will delight in this second installment in the Frankenmuth Murder Mystery series.
Poppy and Mary Ellen find themselves at the heart of and center of not just one, but two murder investigations. When a body is discovered under Poppy’s poorly parked car the day before their big majongg tournament, everything starts to go haywire.
Can they save the event? Will they catch the killer before any more victims are taken? How is Babycakes getting along, and which Frankenmuth figures and places will you recognize this time around?

Wonderful book

This book was so much fun to read. The characters are so interesting and the dogs antics will make you laugh out loud. I had the pleasure of visiting Frankenmuth a couple of years ago and it was delightful.

This was a struggle. Not well written at all. In need of some heavy editing. The story wasn’t cohesive. Chapters ended abruptly. I’m glad others enjoyed it, but this was not for me.
