Who wouldn't want to spend time at a Cornish Cottage by the sea? I know I would. There is something really refreshing about reading a book by Kim Nash. I love her themes of starting over, new beginnings, new possibilities, old and new friendships, community, romance, family, and finding your voice. Plus, the beautiful location by the sea!
Jo Jenkins has always put the needs of others before her own. But now that her marriage is over and her children are grown, it's time for her to put herself first. When she inherits a cottage in Cornwell, she sets off to start her new life. The cottage could use a little TLC, and Jo gets a little help from her new friends in Cornwall. Seamus, a local handyman agrees to help, and her new cottage begins to feel like a home!
Not everything is going to be smooth sailing for Jo. When she attends her daughter's wedding, things get interesting. Her ex-husband was naturally there, and man did he tick me off. Talk about being an insufferable jerk. Then there are her daughters who, well, were not going to win any popularity prizes from me either. I enjoyed the drama, the times Jo stood her ground, and the interactions she had with others.
I enjoyed Jo quite a bit and adored her and her straight talking Mum. I enjoyed how Jo did her best to stay positive in all scenes even in ones where I quite frankly wanting her to give someone a complete and through piece of her mind. I also enjoyed her interactions with Seamus and their banter.
I found The Cornish Cottage by the Sea to be heartwarming, charming, and to be a fast read. I enjoyed the drama, the romance, the sense of community, the charm, the humor, and the location. As with her other books, I found this book to be wonderfully written and captivating. I love the focus on starting over and taking chances. I also enjoyed the twists, turns and the reveal in this book.
Charming, heartwarming, and a joy to read.
Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
I received a free copy of, The Cornish Cottage by the Sea, by Kim Nash, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Jo Jenkins is ready to put herself first, inheriting a cottage in Cornwall, also helps. This was a nice read.
A new book by Kim Nash is always cause for celebration coz as a reader I know its going to be fun, uplifting full of great characters and also have an element of surprise in it
And I wasn’t wrong with this first in a new series set in the idyllic Cornish village of Sandpiper Shore
Jo Jenkins is about to receive the surprise of her life via a will from her ex hubby’s Aunty aunty who in recent years became a recluse, there is a big history between them from when she was with Michael who she cant decide if she pines for or detests even more…….she needs a change in her life and although her 2 have to say spoilt unlikeable daughters think she is mad she decides to go for the opportunity she has been given
And then the fun and games start……as she makes a new beginning and life with new friends,a new love interest and a wonderful sounding Friday club ( I will let you find that out….) and of course all does not go to plan but she battles everything that is thrown her way
Squidgy and yummy and totally comforting I enjoyed everything about this book that shows it’s never too late to go for your dreams and put YOU first, fab get away from it all read….
Jo is on a real downer; her ex-husband, who ran off with her best friend, still seems to have an impact on her life. Together they had two daughters who are now grown up and have successful careers of their own. Jo feels lonely, she has no one to look after, and even her Mother is enjoying herself with her "friend". But things are about to change for Jo, but can she change and accept the challenge ahead of her?
Jo has hit the menopause, her life has changed since her daughters have flown the nest, and it seems everyone around her has someone apart from her. A phone call from a solicitor comes as a bolt from the blue. Her Aunt June, by marriage, has died and left the cottage in Cornwall to Jo, rather than to Michael (the ex-husband). There is a stipulation... Jo has to move to Cornwall and live in the cottage.
Jo hadn't visited the cottage for a while, and it had changed over the years as the upkeep became too much for June. But with determination, she wants to make a go of this, something she can get her teeth into. She is not going to be able to do all of the work; luckily, there is a local builder who can help. Seamus can give her a quote, advice and suggestions about the things she should do. He is also easy on the eye, and there is a certain amount of flirting between the two.
This is a wonderful story that I adored, I had only planned on reading a couple of chapters before going to bed... 60% later!!! The story is one that really appealed to me, a mix of the children growing up and moving on, life moving on, and all the time it seems like Jo is the only what that has stayed stationary. She had gone from being so-and-so's Mum or Wife to being by herself. Not realising how she was going to do, what she liked or what she wanted to do. It seems that June and fate had other plans for her, as did the author.
The author has created a wonderful tale of finding friendship and of trusting in yourself, wrapped it up into Jo and also some of the other characters. There are dilemmas, tests of character and a certain amount of biting one's tongue, this is balanced out with quick, witty one-liners usually of the slightly suggestable type, fun and laughter from other characters and unexpectedly a shock discovery now that one was emotional!
The author has created a loving cast of characters who have the making of forming special friendships and bonds, building trust and having each others backs. This is a wonderful heart-warming story and one that I absolutely adored. I would definitely recommend it.
Jo Jenkins is a new divorcee and her ex-husband is now engaged to her former best friend. However, everything in her life isn’t dark because she has a surprise in store. She discovers something completely unexpected, something that brings her hope. She receives a surprising inheritance—an old cottage in Cornwall from her ex-husband’s great aunt. This unexpected gift leaves Jo questioning her current life and wondering if she should leave her familiar surroundings to embrace this new chapter. Could this cottage become her forever home?
At first, Jo’s hesitancy is not surprising. But as she spends more time at the cottage, she begins to realize that it holds the potential to bring her a sense of order and peace. It may not be the beautiful place that she remembered from the past, but between the cottage and its many outbuildings, it has a certain charm that draws her in.
Jo soon meets Seamus, a friendly and talented handyman who proves to be invaluable when it comes to the much-needed renovations. As they work together, they form a deep friendship and Jo begins to rebuild her life. Jo also makes other friends in the small seaside town, and she begins to see a bright future for herself.
While there are certainly challenges along the way, Jo’s determination and the unwavering support of her dear Mum keep her going. The story is filled with heartwarming moments and heartbreaking ones, making it a truly captivating read. Kim Nash’s latest offering is an excellent testament to her wonderful storytelling.
Many thanks to Boldwood Books and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
📌 I received an e-arc through netgalley, and this is my honest opinion/review of it.
⭐ 3.5

This book made me think a lot, which I take as a good sign. More than a romance, I feel it was a book about overcoming and finding your way when you feel like you've lost everything. It's about finding friendships that are completely worth it, and, yes, finding love again. That's what happened to Jo Jenkins, our main character. She's divorced, and her daughters are grown and living their own lives. She feels she has no path to follow anymore.
I really liked her journey and how she met Emma and Michelle, who played an essential role in making her feel good again. I also liked Seamus, who is a real gentleman (although I would have liked to see a little more chemistry between them). The little mystery surrounding the house and the pictures made the story good, too. I found the whole story cute, and I think I read it at the right time. It was easy and light, and yes, it brought a tear or two to my eye.
Now, I'll just say that Jo's ex-husband and daughters need a good smacking, not just literally, but for everything they put poor Jo through, because for daughters like that, you don't need enemies.
I love Kim Nash's books. Always a focus on a slightly older FMC and second chances. In The Cornish Cottage By The Sea, Jo Jenkins is a divorcee and mother to two grown-up daughters. She's stagnating in her little flat, in a place that only holds sad memories, staying there in case her family wants to come 'home'. An inheritance she never expected leaves her as the owner of a Cornish cottage owned by her ex-husband's aunt, which she coveted when she first. It's a big move. The cottage is not quite what she remembered, but the place is still beautiful with idyllic surroundings and views she could stare at forever. Knowing there are members of her family who weren't on board with the move, Jo carries on, hoping for the best, but doubting she will perform miracles. I loved that Jo found terrific, supportive friends from the beginning, conquering her reluctance to talk to people she doesn't know, after advice from her mum, and beginning every friendship with simple conversations. The way she builds her new gang of 'people' is lovely. It gives hope that there is a way to move forward positively even when everything you lived for has changed. Jo meets Seamus, a local handyman, through his father, and one of her new "I am brave' conversations with strangers. He is friendly, helpful, and somewhat handsome, but Jo is so used to seeing herself as the frumpy middle-aged mother figure that she can't believe he would be interested in her. Her new friends help to build her self-confidence back up to where it should be, and they even form a Friday Club, which sounds like a blast, and support others around them. A mystery that she didn't even know she wanted to solve also presents its solution to her towards the end. Such a wonderful story. I read it in a day! Many thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an ARC.
This was a true heartwarming, uplifting story of hope. I loved Jo, Jos mum, Seamus, Emma and Michelle. They showed what real friendship and love is about. I admired Jos resilience when it came to complex situations and relationships. The book showed you can bounce back from bad times and make you happier than you were before. It explores second chances and seeking happiness in yourself.
This is my first book by Kim and was recommended to me and I adored it, I devoured it in a day. The writing is just so easy to read with a fantastic plot line and stunning setting. I will definitely be reading more of Kim’s books.
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
I think this is the first book I have read by Kim Nash. It certainly won't be the last . I really enjoyed it and I'm very much looking forward to the next book.
I love this author and can always be guaranteed reading a book full of love, life, warmth and humour when I pick up one of her books! This book takes us to down to a picturesque Cornish village called Sandpiper Shore. The main character, Jo Jenkins, has just gone through a divorce after her husband leaves her for her best friend. Her two adult daughters have their own busy lives, and Jo feels a bit lonely and redundant from what her life used to be like. One day, out of the blue, she gets a telephone call from a solicitor for her ex-husband's late Aunty June. In her Will, June has left Jo her seaside cottage where Jo, her husband and her daughters used to holiday many years before. Could this be a sign for Jo to start a new life just for herself?
OMG, this book was fabulous! I've read all the books this author has written, and I know I say it every time, but this book was definitely my favourite! It just seems every new book gets better and better! Jo Jenkins is a lovely character and one which you can definitely connect with. I love how she is a middle aged woman and you can really understand the whole "mid-life" women's problems that Jo finds herself going through. You do have to feel sorry for Jo though, her confidence and self esteem have really taken a battering with the divorce, and from what I read her family (apart from her mum!) treat her so badly so it's no wonder she feels like she does! I certainly don't blame her for moving to Sandpiper Shore, and even though the house needs a lot more work on it than she thought, the view that was described when she looks out of her windows certainly makes up for everything! Something else that makes up for everything is her neighbour Seamus Shaffernakker!! He is certainly just as attractive as the view, and I loved the flirting and banter between him and Jo!
The storyline flows so well! I was reading a couple of books together, but I have to admit that by the time I was about 3 chapters in I knew I'd have to put the other book down and concentrate purely on this book!! I was completely hooked into Jo's story and didn't want to miss a single thing! The other characters in the story are so likeable (apart from Jo's ex-husband who is a bit of a tosser!) and it was lovely for Jo to find new friends who were so supportive of her. Whilst it is a romantic read, there is also a twist in the tale and a little bit of mystery surrounding Aunty June and a mysterious suitcase of hers. I loved this part of the storyline and thought it was all cleverly written, tying all the ends in together!
This was a wonderful read full of heart-warming moments and lots of love, life and laughter! The location was to die for and I'd definitely wouldn't have to be asked twice if I was offered a house down on the Cornish Coast! As I read, I could just picture myself alongside Jo (or preferably Seamus!) sitting on the decking, glass of wine looking at the perfect sea view! Focussing on friendships, courage and new starts this book gives you everything you could possibly need! Completely adorable! Would definitely recommend!
Audiobook - Absolutely loved this! Warm, heartfelt, and perfect for a beachy mood.
This book was exactly what my soul needed. This heartwarming and uplifting story completely swept me away. The characters felt like old friends. Warm, flawed, and deeply endearing, and the bonds of friendship threaded throughout were a joy to witness. It was my first read (or listen!) from Kim Nash, and I found the audiobook effortlessly engaging, with a soothing narration that made it so easy to follow. This is the kind of book that wraps you in comfort and leaves your heart a little lighter. Can’t wait to explore more from this author!
"The Cornish Cottage by the Sea" by Kim Nash is the second book I’ve read from this talented author, and much like her first, it beautifully captures the charm of the Cornish landscape. The story centers on Jo Jenkins, a woman who has spent her life putting the needs of others before her own. Now that her children have grown up and her ex-husband, Michael, is living with her former friend, Jo, finds herself feeling adrift and uncertain about her future.
Everything changes when she receives a life-altering phone call: Michael's aunt has passed away, leaving her the Cornish cottage in Sandpiper. This quaint cottage holds many fond memories for Jo, who used to spend summers there with Michael and the girls when they were children. However, upon her return, she discovers that the once-vibrant home is in disrepair and requires extensive renovations—repairs that Jo simply can't afford.
As Jo navigates the challenges of restoring the cottage, she meets Seamus, a warm and approachable local electrician who is not only skilled but also possesses a great sense of humor. With the loyal company of his dog Theo, Seamus becomes a crucial ally in Jo’s renovation efforts. Together, they share countless hours working on the house, during which a deep friendship blossoms, filled with laughter and heartfelt conversations.
In Sandpiper, Jo also forms two meaningful friendships with two other women who understand her struggles and aspirations. These connections offer her a sense of belonging and support as she embarks on her journey of self-discovery. and friendship. With each passing day, Jo starts to envision a brighter future—one where she can prioritize her own happiness for a change.
Despite the obstacles she faces, including financial constraints and the looming memories of her past, Jo discovers a hidden secret within the cottage that reaffirms her decision to stay and make a new life for herself. Ultimately, "The Cornish Cottage by the Sea" is a heartfelt exploration of resilience, friendship, and the power of new beginnings.
Jo Jenkins is recently divorced and mum to two grown up daughters who have busy lives of their own, so she's feeling rather lost and without purpose now she's got nobody to look after, then she receives a phone call from a solicitor about her ex husband's Aunty June who has recently passed away bequeathing Jo the cottage in Sandpiper Shore, Cornwall in her will. Jo used to love visiting June and often dreamed of owning this beautiful cottage one day, so she's shocked to discover it's now hers, on the proviso that she moves into it and, without further delay and some wise words from her lovely mum as to why she needs to grab life with both hands and enjoy it, she decides to do just that. The cottage, unfortunately, isn't how she remembers it and needs rather a lot of work to bring it back to life so, with the help of the lovely Seamus who lives nearby and her two new friends Michelle and Emma the dream begins to become a reality, but not without some pitfalls along the way and a long buried secret that will change everything.
The Cornish Cottage by the Sea is the latest romantic fiction by this author and it was like wrapping myself in a favourite cardigan. From the picturesque depths of Cornwall, with it's beautiful beaches and rolling countryside Nash brings us a story of hope and happiness, a tale of new beginnings and budding friendships which Jo could cherish for life. As mothers, we all put our children's needs before our own, so much so that when they fly the nest we are left floundering, with no sense of which direction to take next and feeling quite useless and, for Jo this was worse because she had no one to continue her journey with, until she moved to Cornwall where Seamus, Emma and Michelle showed her there was still so much to look forward to. This is a beautifully heartwarming and, at times, emotional tale centred around the importance of friendship and second chances and I loved everything about it.
I'd like to thank Boldwood Books and NetGalley for the approval, I will post my review on Goodreads now snd Amazon on publication day.
Jo’s at a crossroads in her life when – rather out-of-the-blue – she inherits a dilapidated cottage at Sandpiper Shore on the Cornish coast. She always loved staying there with the family when they visited her husband’s Aunty June – and she can hardly believe she might be able to make it her home. She’s now divorced (aargh, that ex-husband…), her two girls have their own lives, her mother has made it clear she’s happy to live her own life too – so why not?
But, on arrival, she wonders if she might have made the wrong decision – the cottage is more rundown than she expected, she doesn’t have the money to do the major work needed, and she feels very alone. But she’s determined to make her new start work – finding new friends who help provide the solutions, as well as supporting her when her old life starts to rear its head and cause difficulties. And they’re also there for her when her new life brings some wholly unexpected – and rather major – surprises.
The first in a new series, the friendships in this book are simply wonderful – it’s something the author always does ever so well. Seamus the handyman is a particularly lucky find for Jo – easy on the eye, a genuinely nice guy who’s happy to undertake the work at a pace she can afford (in exchange for a bit of dog-sitting), and who makes working side-by-side fun. A bit of romance too seems out of the question – and what a shame. But her other two new friends – the jeweller and the businesswoman – become important in her life too, despite her initial fears that she’s allowing people to get too close too quickly. And as for Jo herself – she’s so easy to empathise with, overcoming the sadnesses in her life, finding joy in the small things, ready to fight to have the future she wants and deserves.
There’s far more to the story – a few twists and turns, some misunderstandings, and one stunning big reveal – and it’s all so beautifully told, with the most perfect emotional touches, a few tears at times, and plenty of laughter. The family issues are so well handled – very real, particularly uncomfortable at times – and there’s a strong sense of community throughout the book, something I always so enjoy. Every single individual has their own story, and I’ll look forward to getting to know them better. Sandpiper Shore is so much more than just a backdrop – I’m going to enjoy it there. And yes, there is a particularly lovely slow-burn romance too, one that was all the more heartwarming and moving because of its gentle pace, and a particularly perfect ending.
The whole book was a total delight – engaging, heartwarming, one big cuddle from beginning to end, but not without its moments of drama, and with a story that proved to be even more of a page turner than I was expecting. One for everyone’s summer reading list – I really loved it.
lt is always a comfort to snuggle down and escape to the kind of places Kim describes in her books. “The Cornish Cottage by the Sea” takes us to Sandpiper Shore, which is one of those places. Where everyone pitches in and meaningful friendships help people through thick and thin.
Jo is in her early 50’s, recently divorced with grown up very successful, independent daughters. She is given the shock of her life when she receives a surprise inheritance. Her Aunty - in - laws Cottage by the sea. Ratting around in a large house with no job and nothing to keep her occupied she decides to take the leap, move away and live in the house of her dreams. Of course, all is not going to go smoothly, the setting is stunning, the period house beautiful but the expense to ensure the roof doesn’t leak, the electrics are safe and the paint isn’t peeling off is astronomical. Cue the kind (and very handsome) electrician Jo’s new best friend, who helps her see the wood for the trees. Alongside other newfound friends Jo begins to flourish. The house improvements bring them all together bringing joy & happiness to lonely hearts and creating what look to become lifelong friendships.
Hidden and unspoken feelings that many may have experienced are encapsulated so well in the narrative which offers hope and understanding. It is refreshing to read about more mature ladies that are spreading their wings and moving on with life, rather than just bright young things dipping their toes in life. I was thoroughly immersed in life at Sandpiper Shore with Jo and friends and I look forward to visiting again in the future.
First of all, thank you to NetGalley for giving me an ARC of this book, in exchange for an honest review.
This is a book about Jo, who happens to be in a bit of a limbo and rut with her life; ever being the people pleaser with everyone in her life. Things happen to change for the better, when she happens to inherit a cottage by the sea in Cornwall, and she uses it as a chance for her to become the main character in her life-meeting new friends and perspectives, in this new chapter of her life. Jo starts off as a side character in her own life, until she seizes it and finally becomes the main character she always should have been. Hurrah!
This for me, was a beautiful story full of cottage-cosy-galore, which can never really go wrong in my eyes. I particularly loved how Nash created an 'out with the old, and in with the new' with everything in Jo's life, from characters to life circumstances, which is certainly relatable to anyone and everyone. I came to really admire Jo's resilience and head strong mentality when it came to dealing with difficult characters and situations in her life (like her ex Michael). While he was really insufferable, other characters such as Jo's mum, and new friends like Seamus, show you there really is good in the world, and it all starts with the close knit circle you surround yourself with. That is where happiness starts for anyone, and it really is okay to put yourself first and be the main character of your life. This tale made me feel happy, hopeful and I am glad to have read it!
Jo Jenkins has a chance to start over. That is exactly what she does, a brand new start in a cottage by the sea. But to start over and settle in Jo must first get the cottage brought up to date. I love this authors works, her books are always heart-warming and manage to bring a smile to your face. I love that there is always a message within the stories. Kim's books have a way of making you think about things and encourage you that if you want it, go get it, if you want to do it, go do it. You can do anything you put your mind to. I also find these books are my comfort books, I love a good crime thriller, police procedural or gangland grit lit read, yet I know when I pick one of Kim's books up that it's going to make me smile, They are like a big pair of arms wrapping around you and leaving you feeling better about yourself. Encouraging you to go and seize the day.
The characters were fabtastic, I can see Jo and her friends Emma and Michelle going far, I see them having such fun together but also getting up to mischief. There really was some good characters in this book and I want to say more about each of them, but that would give too much of the story away. These characters are realistic and could be any one of us, any one of our friends. Get yourself settled and dive in, this is a book you will not regret reading.
I really can not wait for more. I flew through this book on a Saturday morning when I'd decided I was having an quiet hour. It turned out to be slightly longer quiet few hours as I could not put the book down once I had started it.
Now, here is an author, that just takes my breath away. Every book I have read by Kim, I don't want her book to finish, she always writes from her heart and with so much love and all her books are uplifting and you feel good when you are reading them. So, The Cornish Cottage by the Sea by Kim Nash was no different, this book was Just Excellent from start to finish. It was a beautiful book and I loved everything about it. The characters were excellent and I really felt for Jo Jenkins the main character, she is divorced and her two daughters are all grown up. Jo has always put other first and she knows it’s time to put herself first. But how?
Jo gets a big surprise when she inherits a beautiful beachside cottage in Cornwall, she grabs the chance to start over, leave everything behind and start a new part of her life.
When Jo gets to Cornwall, she finds a crumbling old cottage that needs a lot of love and attention but then, so does Jo. Jo becomes friends with several people in Cornwall and everyone plays their part - there's a kind-hearted jeweller, a no-nonsense businesswoman, and a local Jack of all trades with a past of his own. Jo begins to rebuild more than just bricks and mortar.
WoW. . . . . . . . . .
I highly recommend all of Kim's books. They are a brilliant read especially for you great day off relaxing or holiday read. They will make you smile and very uplifting.
Big thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an ARC.
Jo is in a bit of a rut with her life but things are about to change for the better when she inherits a cottage by the sea that turns her life around for the better. The cottage sadly isn’t quite as Jo had remembered it but you could easily see the potential of it being the perfect home. I fell in love with it as much as Jo did as well as the fabulous people she meets.
There was so much to love about this story. The beautiful setting, the ram shackled cottage, her new friends as well as Seamus. Jo certainly has her ups and downs and her ex, Michael, absolutely infuriated me. I don’t think I have ever wanted to slap a character as much as I did with him. Even her daughters made me want to give them a good shake. I loved Jo’s mum though who has a big heart. It was a shame to see how selfish some people can be with no thought for others. We get to see the good side of people though through Jo’s new friends and Seamus.
The Cornish Cottage by the Sea was sublime! It whisked me away to a place I would love to call my home and was a reminder of no matter what life throws at you, to keep your chin up, rise above it and concentrate on the good in life. There is a lot of humour with some great one-liners that left me with a smile on my face. It had everything I wanted from this genre with plenty of heart warming moments that was good for the soul. A joyous and uplifting story!
Jo Jenkins has recently divorced after her ex-husband Micheal has run off with his secretary that is also Jo’s best friend. She currently doesn’t know what to do with herself now she has spare time being single and both her daughters have grown up and flown the nest. She gets a surprised phone call to say that the beautiful Cornish cottage in Sandpiper that Micheal’s Aunt has been left to her in her will. At first, she thinks it’s a mistake. But she has fonds memories of the cottage which she visited some years ago. Her mother thinks it would be good for her and to move somewhere new a start a new life. Even her mother is doing just that. When she arrives at the cottage is not in the state she remembered. But in a sad state. She hires odd job man Seamus to help with the renovations. So that maybe one day it will be back to its former glory. Soon not only the house gets better but she is meeting new people and making new friends. Her own life turns for the better. Thank you, publisher, for a copy of Cornish cottage by the sea by Kim Nash. I needed a change of pace the books I am currently reading, and this was just the treat I needed. This is a beautifully written story of second chances in life and living again. It’s never too late to start again and finding your soulmate. I loved every minute of this. 5 stars from me.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Kim Nash for providing me with a complimentary digital ARC for The Cornish Cottage by the Sea coming out May 10, 2025. The honest opinions expressed in this review are my own.
For Jo Jenkins, life has always been about putting others first. But with her children grown and her ex-husband as rotten as ever, she knows it’s time to put herself at the heart of the story. So, when she inherits a beautiful beachside cottage in Cornwall, she grabs the chance to start over.
The crumbling old cottage needs a little love, but so does Jo. And with the help of her new friends – a kind-hearted jeweller, a no-nonsense businesswoman, and a local Jack of all trades with a past of his own – Jo begins to rebuild more than just bricks and mortar.
But tucked away inside the cottage is a secret that could change everything. As the waves roll in and the sea air clears her mind, Jo must decide if she’s ready to let go of the past. Will she finally learn to embrace the life she truly deserves?
I really love romance stories and English settings by the sea, so I was excited to check this book out. It wasn’t quite what I was thinking. I prefer really cozy romances. So this was a little messier and like reallife. I wasn’t as into the story as I thought I would be. I liked parts of it though. I would definitely check out other books by this author.
Divorced after her husband left to go with her best friend Jo Jenkins is lonely, her days without end. A surprise inheritance from her ex-husband's aunt Maybe this a new lease of life will grant?
The move to a cottage in Cornwall, close to the sea, Is something she dreamed of, not expecting it to be reality. The cottage needs a hefty dose of tic and repairs, Can she afford to rebuild it with love and cares?

I really enjoyed this fabulous book And highly recommend you do more than just look! For my copy of this book I say a huge thank you As I share with you this, my. honest review.
this was a positive surprise - I expected a small town, feel-good story about starting over and I got it. I also expected clichés, predictability and mediocre writing, which I did not get. even though the story isn't original and I've read similar books before, this still felt refreshing. I was also surprised to enjoy the main character as much as I did; I often struggle a little to connect with older characters, especially when they struggle with the empty nest after their adult children leave. Simply because I don't have kids, and because I'm still in my thirties. In this case, however, this was part of the character's challenge, but it didn't overshadow everything else going on. The new female friendships and their respective love lives really made this book shine.
Well written, without unnecessary rambling and getting off track. Likeable and believable characters, easy to read, a good balance between introspection and outwards actions and story development. Good length, never felt slow nor rushed.
At times humours, but never silly and not exaggerated or constructed situations forcing the funny out. Real emotions are well portrayed, without becoming whiny, and there's a fine balance of good and not so good feelings. A good story with a direction, and with several engaging themes.
I loved this! As I read further into the book I found I couldn’t put it down, I needed to see Jo succeed, to realise that Seamus was perfect for her, and to see her finally triumph over her ex husband.
Jo was a very relatable character, loosing your identity being a full time mother is real, and when your children grow and fly the best it’s hard to remember who you were before, in Jo’s case you add in an ex husband who belittled her and kept crushing her spirit and you have to fight even harder for what you want- and that’s after you figure out what that is!
Jo’s connection to the cottage was something that she had from the very first visit, and like her, the cottage needed some TLC. It was very apt that she finances the project by literally selling anything of value her husband ever gave her. The new friends she meets along the way help her to rediscover herself and realise what a healthy friendship is like: supportive and caring.
The added twists to the story were cleverly woven in and were so moving, I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but believe me once you start reading you won’t be able to stop, and when you read the last page you’ll wish there was just one more.
This would make an excellent summer holiday read, preferably in a cottage by the Cornish coast.
