Thane MacQuarie, chieftain of Clan MacQuarie, has his sights set on taking over Duart Castle and exacting vengeance on the mother who abandoned him. But when he witnesses a cruel man leave his wife, Tamsin Garvie, to drown on a rock in the sea, Thane can’t ignore the plight of the red-haired beauty.

Left to die by her brutal husband, Tamsin prays for rescue, knowing she must survive to save her young daughter from the monster she married. Thane delivers her from the icy grip of Loch Tuath, but Tamsin’s injuries require more aid than he can provide.

Thane seeks help from the new skilled healer at Duart Castle, the very place he planned to conquer. As Tamsin recovers, Thane finds himself unexpectedly drawn to the castle’s fierce swordsmen, sharp-eyed archers, and majestic warhorses. Spending time with Tamsin ignites a desire for a life he never thought possible—one filled with love and purpose.

But when Tamsin’s husband learns of Thane’s interference, he vows to destroy everything Thane holds dear, including Tamsin and her daughter. As the vicious man closes in, Thane faces a choice that will shape the rest of his life. Will he cling to the vengeance that has driven him for so long? Or will he risk everything to protect the woman who could finally heal his scarred heart?

In this riveting tale of passion, redemption, and the power of love to overcome even the darkest of pasts, Thane must decide what is worth fighting for—and what he’s willing to sacrifice for a chance at true happiness.

To preface, this was the first book I’ve read by the author. There were so many characters introduced right away in this book and I’m sure they would be familiar if I had read the previous work but as this was the start of a new series I didn’t realize I would need to. As a new reader it was not exactly a great start to the book for me. The characters felt quite flat, the leads were often overtaken by the side characters and none ended up feeling developed at all. The plot didn’t actually move much except to show the repeated abuse of our female lead, and the end was completely unsatisfying.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thane MacQuarie is the chieftain of Clan MacQuarie and has his sights on taking over Duart Castle and getting vengeance on the mother who abandoned him and his younger brother and sister. But when he sees a man leave his wife, to drown on a rock in the sea, he can't just ignore it and walk away, so he runs to help the flame haired beauty who's flailing as the tide comes in.

Tamsin Garvie has been left to die on a rock in the sea by her horrible husband, and she knows she can't swim. All she can think about is the fact that she must survive to save her young daughter Alana from her cruel father and grandmother. She is quite shocked to be rescued by a handsome man. Her elation doesn't last long as her injuries threaten her very life.

Thane seeks help from the new skilled healer he's told is at Duart Castle. Eli helps Tamsin, and Tamsin is able to recover. Thane finds himself drawn to Tamsin in a way that he's never been drawn to any woman in his life. He also finds what seems like a comradery with the castles' fierce swordman and their eagle eyed archers. As he spends more time with the castles wonderful new inhabitants, he also finds a new desire for life. One he'd never thought possible.

But when Tamsins' husband learns of Thanes' interference, he vows to destroy everything Thane holds dear, including Tamsin and their young daughter.

Will Thane realize that Tamsin is the one for him? Or will he let her go again without a fight?

Wow, just wow, what a book. This is Keira Montclair at her best. This is the start of a brand new series with all the perks! What I mean by that is this is a brand new series, but with some of the old characters that her readers already know and love with the bonus of some new characters that I'm already growing to love. The characters from her old books have already had their stories, but now the new characters are absolutely fantastic. I can't wait to watch Tamsin and Thane grow as the series goes on. I also hope to see Thanes brother and sister find their happily ever after. And Lia is so special. I'm not going to say more because I really don't want to ruin the book, but I will say this. If you are a fan of historical romance with fae elements in them, you won't want to miss this book. All in all, Ms. Montclair is amazingly talented, and I can't wait for book two.

A Great New Start!

I have always loved Keira Montclair and her historical Scottish Highlander stories. I have spent generations with her in her Grant and Ramsay clans. But now she is starting a whole new clan and a whole new series. I am really excited about where she is going with this new series.
This book covers two young, smaller clans starting out and learning how to survive and rebuild. We get the POV from several characters along the way and peaks into the new families and new lives on the Isle of Mull. The romance in this one is almost secondary to the world building Keira Montclair is doing and the relationship building among all of the characters and it is definitely worth it. I am hooked and so badly want to see where she is going next with these families. All of these characters have a story to tell and I don’t even know who I want to see next.
Keira Montclair has also added a bit of the paranormal into this world with seers and faeries. I am very excited to see how this adds to the stories and the relationships throughout the series and into the new world. I hope more people jump into this series with me. This could definitely be the next fun fantasy world.

Too many different pov.

There were barely any scenes between the "couple".

Just a mess.

So poorly written I couldn't believe this was by the same great author. Terribly awkward dialogue that was painful to read, with anachronisms, repetitive phrases, and more. The plot was okay, but also repetitive and drawn out. Just a big disappointment. (Was this some twisted experiment with AI?)

How does this book get such good reviews? Reading this book had me feeling like I was on the second or third in the series instead of the first.

First off, I love the cover. This author has the best covers for her stories and this one sets the tone for this new series.

Wow, you need to really be concentrating on this story because has so many characters and a lot happens.

The prologue was confusing to me, because I wasn't sure who the characters were. After I finished the story, I think I know, of one. I contacted Kiera and I was right. The other character will be made known later. Thought I was going crazy - lol.

The h you will feel the pain she endures, both physically and emotionally. I was upset with her decision in the last chapter, but I loved the outcome.

Secondary characters have lovemaking, off page. Our MC have kisses only. I felt a connection to this couple.

Nasty villains and for once in a story I loved their outcome! No cliffhanger for our couple, but you will be wanting more of the secondary characters. This author did an amazing job of pulling you into this story. She makes me want to continue this series because the characters just jump off the page. This is a standalone story with crossover characters from previous series. I can't tell you how it made me feel to have some favorite characters be in this one.

I've read almost all of this author's series. I liked how she incorporated my favorite characters from past series and added new ones. I can't wait for the kids to grow up because their personalities now are so engaging. Just touch of fae/paranormal which I love in my stories. I'm not a fan of stories on ghosts but the fae I enjoy immensely.

No cheating for our MC, no cliffhanger, HEA, romantic, great main and secondary characters, especially the children, violence - physical and emotional, and many twists especially at the end that surprised me!

I can't improve on the blurb, just giving you extra tidbits to decide whether to purchase. I received an ARC and all opinions are my own and freely given. (ljb)

Family, Vengeance, Torment, Discovering Happiness:
A new series from a favorite author and I suggest you try and hold on to your emotions, your heart, as this gut-wrenching story took me on "Tilt-a-Whirl" twisting and turning ride that had me up and down, frustratingly swearing out-loud before it reached an incredibly huge shocking and very encouraging ending.
The main plot deals with Tasmin a young woman that has been leading a horrible abusive life and Thane the young chieftain of Duart Castle trying to start a new life with his family and friends on the Isle of Mull.
The two meet as Thane is rescuing Tasmin and we follow them as their slow attraction grows along with each one overcoming their past experiences emotionally and physically.
The large cast of characters were outstanding and inspirational throughout all of the terrifying turmoil. It did my heart good to see the villains get their due. They certainly had me yelling explicatives out loud more than once. I even yelled at Tasmin a time or two and not in a good way.
Even though it is a new series with a new generation we got to visit with some of the characters from the previous series that are now part of this new and exciting series
This story is very involved with the new clan building a new life and all of the ins and outs of making their clan safe and prosperous for their future.
This is a standalone story, but the series is to be continued and I for one is certainly looking forward to from this author.
💖Special Mention. The children made this story very enjoyable. Some with a little bit of fae power
🙋‍♀️I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy for my honest thoughts and opinion.

This is a new series from Keira Montclair that takes place on the Isle of Mull, Scotland. New clans, Clan Grantham and Clan MacQuarie as well as other clans on the island to get to know.

We are introduced to the clans on the Isle of Mull, with this book centered mostly on Clan MacQuarie and Clan Grantham, with the H/h Thane MacQuarie, chieftain, who swears never to marry because he does not trust women with valid reason, and Tamsin Garvie, who is brutalized by her husband and kept from her daughter. They both have traumatic histories but are drawn to each other, Thane having saved Tamsin's life and Thane seeing Tamsin being such a sweet woman and caring only about rescuing her daughter from her brutal husband and his mother, even if it means sacrificing herself. Tamsin and Thane in turn witness love and good and loving marriages at Clan Grantham.

This book is filled with action, mystery, drama, strong women, villains, surprises and romance. The book grabs you right from the beginning and follows through to The End! I cannot wait for the next book in this Clans of Mull series.

I was privileged to receive an ARC of this book and this review is my honest and sincere review of this book.

A new chapter

I've just finished reading all of Keira's books in order from Alexander Grant down to this one. They're all awesome w great characters and interesting historical backgrounds. It's worth reading every single one. It starts w Alexander and continues thru his and his siblings connections and ends here w his great grandkids. All riveting stories.
This one is the start of a new clan w some links to the ones in earlier books and you even get to see a couple you never expected to ever see again. But, the new characters are just has engaging gas the characters in all her previous books. It's a bew start on new region and the formation of a new clan. But the writing is pure Keira w history, cheeky humorous parts that remind you of a young Loki, yet at the same time it's fresh w new neighbour's. You'll love anyone of Keiras books. She also makes sure to include just enough backstop in each book so you don't need to read previous books to follow along. Instead, you'll want to go back and read the ones you hadn't, I did lol. Love all your historical books Keira!. My only regret us I've finished the series and need you to write some more. I'll look forward to any new book you have the time to produce.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The debut of this series was nothing short of fabulous, offering an emotional and heart-wrenching narrative that promises a happily ever after, ensuring that the villains will get their comeuppance for their heinous acts. Tasmin Garvie's remarkable resilience is a beacon as she confronts her past's traumas. By her side is Thane MacQuarie, the resolute chieftain of Clan MacQuarie, whose nurturing and protective traits are pivotal to her recovery. His steadfast leadership and support lay the groundwork for Tasmin's rebirth, rendering their romance profoundly moving.

The story skillfully juxtaposes the villains' dark malevolence with the satisfying warmth of retribution. The playful mischief of the children, laced with subtle hints of Fae magic, weaves a captivating spell of whimsy throughout the tale. The romance between Tasmin and Thane emerges as a testament to hope and enduring strength. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Plight of a Scottish Lass by Keira Montclair
Clans of Mull Series Book One
Thane MacQuarie and his siblings had an evil mother. She’d dropped them off on the Isle of Mull…and left them to fend for themselves. They thrived away from her, and now he’s a clan chieftain. When he finds an injured woman, he visits the newcomers at Clan Grantham to see their healer.
Tamsin Garvie was married off to a horrid man. Her mother died young, so she was never told about what to do in marriage, like how to get a son instead of a daughter. Her husband keeps her daughter away until she can accomplish the said act.
The Grants and Ramsays are represented on this isle, as Robert the Bruce has given them the castle in hopes that they can also discover what’s happening there.
This new series is excellent. Many different POVs. Old friends and new friends on the isle. Other surprise “guest appearances” as well. Truly enjoyable!

Great first book in a new series!

I am used to this authors old series and have read and enjoyed all the books in the series. When she said she was moving forward with a new series, location and characters I was excited to read it. This book was wonderful! Charters from the past series introduce new clans, a wonderful island, dramas and predicaments. A new hero and heroine, adorable children and orphans that aid and help build the new clan. A heroine that seems to be a damsel in destress, but she is tired of waiting to be helped and it’s amazing how she learns to defend herself and daughter with the help of skillful teachers and a handsome hero. What a wonderful surprise she has for an awful husband! This book hints to the next one and I can’t wait until the next one comes out!!

Great beginning for the series.

Thane is the young chief of the MacQueries with plans to expand his clan so they can grow crops and raise cattle or sheep. When he witnessed a group of men beating and leaving a woman on a rock in the middle of the sea, he had to save her. Tamsin had been beaten by her husband Laird Garvie and left to die when the tide comes in. When she was saved by Thane, their journey to save themselves from a brutal past was just beginning. Great story with some familiar old characters and some very interesting new characters. The evil characters were really evil. Can’t wait for the next one.

this series by Keira Montclair is a game changer

I have read all of Keira’s books, and I have to say that this is one of the best books I have ever read!! It’s a new series, but it was so fantastic, I could not put it down and had it read in less than two days. Wonderful read!!!! I love all of the new characters that will carry on into the rest of the series and it was just heartwarming to read about a few interesting characters. And I love the Scottish magic that she added to her book. Please read this book if you want a joyful story to read. Now Keira needs to get back to the writing board because I’m waiting for the next story.

Logan and Gwyneth legacy continues

What a great spin off of the Ramsey and Grant Clan. The grandchildren are all grown and have been granted a new adventure by the King. They are to establish peace and order on an island. They meet wonderful people and form new friendships with their neighbors. Thane is such a great addition to this continuation of the Grant and Ramsey clans storyline. I loved all the characters that were introduced in this book. I could not put this book down until I finished it. I can’t wait to see what else this series has to offer.

Great story!

I loved this story. I can’t wait for the next. Thane raised his younger sister and brother after his mother left them in the woods to care for themselves. Tamsin was sold off young and had a daughter which her husband was mad about and took her away until he had a son. When the baby died he left Tamsin on a rocky shore to drown with the high tide. You will love this story!

Hard to follow

I have always loved the authors stories about the Grants and Ramsey's. But this story was a hard read. Too many main characters, jumping from one to another. Not enough storyline of the hero and heroine of the story. I found myself fast skimming some of the chapters because the were not needed for the storyline. Big disappointment, I won't read the next in the series

Good read lots of fun

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, it was quick. It had turns that weren’t expected and kept you wanting more. The only thing that I don’t like about a book is a cliffhanger at the end. Every book should be able to stand on its own, and this one leaves you hanging.
