Essential reading for the 'Robin of Sherwood' devotee - meticulously researched and full of gems of information many of which were new to me in spite of being a fan for many a long year.
Each episode of Michael Praed's reign as Robin Hood is explored with a discussion of the filming, 'behind the scenes' stories and the history and mythology within the script plus 'bloopers' etc. This is a very entertaining read and although I didn't always agree with Andrew's opinions, it's amusingly written and gives fresh insight into this brilliant drama which 30 years later still has a huge following and attracts fans from all over the world to conventions. This book was launched at the most recent in Chepstow this year where I bought my copy and had it signed by the author. Looking forward now to Volume Two!

One of the best books on the making of and background to a television series I have ever read. Of course the series in question is Robin of Sherwood, the definitive telling of the Robin Hood legend. However even given this advantage Andrew Orton has created a fantastic work of scholarship, with an impressive breadth that places the show in its artistic, cultural and political context.

An excellent resource on this amazing show. Could've done without the author's tendency to pomposity and "clever" witticisms, but otherwise a very worthwhile companion to the series. Looking forward to diving into the second volume.

An excellent guide and insight into one of my favourite takes on Robin Hood full of facts! If you love the series then its well worth getting. Also includes a list of filming locations and maps.

An excellent book on Michael Praed era-Robin of Sherwood. Lots of useful info and some thoughtful points made, particularly for someone who's working on their own take of the Robin Hood myth.

An absolute must for any fan of the classic 1980s reinvention of the myth.
Orton offers not merely excellent analysis on every single episode in the first two years of the show (the Michael Praed years- the cover is a dead giveaway on that) but he goes into great detail about the derivation of characters, stories and even concepts hinted at by the show.
There are sections on the birth of the show, the production a guide to sites where scenes were filmed and an insight into the selection of Jason Connery for the revived Hooded Man after Praed was memorably killed by the Sheriff's bowmen in "The Greatest Enemy" a show which is rightly hailed as a television classic. Connery's stint in the role gets it's own volume which I have yet to acquire.
This book is definitely one for the real fans and it has to be said that a non fan would not mark it so highly but I am an unashamed fan since it was first broadcast in April 1984.
