Heather McBogg courageously shares the first years of her intense grief after the death of her husband in Seed to Seedling. The powerful book is a combination of prose and poetry. With respect to Paul Simon, it’s a window into her heart and she shares what it’s like to be blown apart. I knew what I was getting into when I started the book because I had the privilege of attending a reading the author did earlier this year. Since then, my family has been rocked by an unexpected death. Our experience was different than McBogg’s but grief has a way of equalizing experiences.

This book is not an easy read because of the subject matter: grieving the death of a spouse and father. It’s not easy, but it’s worthwhile. I’m glad I have it now as a tool on my shelf, and I plan to refer back to it. I am grateful the author found enough courage to share her insights, her fears, her vulnerabilities, and her growth.
