LAPD Detective Kate Sexton and her canine partner, Bernie, return in this edge-of-your-seat thriller with laugh-out-loud humor. Hollywood Blood is the second book in the Hollywood Alphabet Series Thrillers.
If you think you’ve got problems, meet LAPD cop, Kate Sexton. She’s just been promoted to the department’s elite Robbery Homicide Division, along with her canine partner, Bernie, a first for the homicide unit. But things immediately go downhill when a famous singer’s manager is shot and killed during one of Kate’s mother’s psychic séances. While Kate tries to balance her troubled relationship with her mother and an ex-cop, things get even crazier when the killer strikes again . . . and again . . . and then targets those closest to the investigation.
As she tracks the killer, things turn even more bizarre when Kate learns the suspect in the homicides is the leader of a blood thirsty cult out for revenge. To make matters worse, Bernie’s sexual wanderlust is out of control, her best friend Natalie meddles in the case, and Kate’s boss thinks she’s leaking details about the murders to the press.
Hollywood Blood is a thrill ride, with even more sex, laughs, and twists & turns than the first book in the series, Hollywood Assassin. Other books in the Hollywood Alphabet Series Thrillers by MZ Kelly include: Hollywood Crazy and Hollywood Dirty, both coming soon!
M.Z. "Mack" Kelly, spent over thirty years in the field of law enforcement. He often draws on his experience working with gangs, violent offenders, and the court system in writing his books. He currently lives in Southern California, not too far from the streets of Hollywood that he writes about!
This one wasn't as good as book 1 but still a good read. The stories are a little grisly so beware. I do like Kate and her K9 partner, Bernie. Trouble seems to find Kate when she is just trying to do the right thing. In this book, a new Captain is in charge. He is an old, set in his ways in beliefs and attitude. He also doesn't like women on the force and lets Kate know it at every opportunity. She gives as good as she gets.
Another great story of Det. Kate Sexton and her horny dog Bernie. I am in love with this series, it truly keeps me enthralled through every page. This one had me believing I knew the identity of crazy Myra, but boy was I wrong. I'm heading over to Amazon to pick up book 3 right now!
Hollywood Blood has the Alphabet Series in high gear as Kate and the gang attempt to solve a string of murders that surround a famous singer. Someone is seeking revenge, but will they obtain their goal, you’ll have to read to find out.
With MZ’s background in law enforcement, you feel like you’re walking with Detective Kate Sexton as she tracks the clues to find the bad guy. MZ has thrown in a good amount of humor with ex-Brit Natalie with her quirkiness and Mo the ex-pimp as the Sister Snoops try to help Kate solve the mystery.
The Alphabet Series has many elements. Mystery, Thriller, LOL Humor & a little Romance. I have to hand it to MZ; his novels are well written and keep you guessing with the best of them. It would be fun to the Alphabet Series on a cable channel somewhere.
I have to give MZ kudos for no editing errors in any of the three books I’ve read. I’m tired of reading books from the big publishing houses that have many errors that even my simple mind pick up.
I wanted to like this book, even with its obvious play on Sue Grafton's Alphabet books, and its attempt to create characters similar to Janet Evanovich's. But the switch in verb tenses was disconcerting from chapter to chapter. The author tried too hard to make the main character flip and glib. I'm not a prude, but there was way too much crudeness without any groundwork being laid for it. And the writers on Criminal Minds do the whole predator, cyber-crime, women turned into disciples and victim much better. Thumbs down.
These books are getting better and better. Think Stephanie Plum but with a lot more sense but still with the crazy friends. Can't wait to read book 3 when our heroine moves in with her crazy English friend....an ex pump...and a transvestite and his/her grandmother. it's going to be a hoot!
It's not for my age group, don't know short hand text messaging FFF stuff. Never read or interested vampires or devil books, games. Best character in this story is Bernie the dog.
I started with the 2nd book in the series. It was a slow start. I just couldn't get into it, seemed a little weird and I just couldn't get into the character. However, that changed and soon I couldn't put it down (although I had to!) I was finally able to get into the character. I enjoyed the twists and turns of this book and liked it very much! Glad that I am the kind of person who when she starts a book, she finished it, even if it takes some time.
This is a cozy mystery story that involves murder, subterfuge, deceit, police procedures, a little humor, and a romantic angle thrown in for good measure. The story is interesting,in and of itself, and keeps the reader involved. There are several plot twists that also tend to snatch the reader back to the main story. All in All, a very good book to read.
Another page turning and non stop action thriller by the author M.Z Kelly. Detective Kate and her canine partner Bernie can not do anything right in the eyes of her boss, Skully. Kate and Bernie are investigating the murder of a famous singer's assistant. There are many twist and turns with some laugh out loud moments. Very enjoyable.
I liked the book. It was well thought out and not obvious. My issues was the constant comments saying the heroine said something, but really didn’t say something road my nerves. In other words the cool comebacks were all in her head. There are better ways to depict an inside voice than saying the same statement repeatedly.
A cop with a dog, her chubby partner, amusing British friend whose roommate is a former hooker-pimp and a transvestite work together to find a cyber killer.
This series delivers exactly what a really great thriller needs and all at breakneck speed! Funny in all the right places, in just the right amount and really good snark. Thank you Mr Kelly for the wonderful entertainment!
After checking to see that I'd read the first one, I picked this one up. Very good and very twisty mystery, but no early clues to lead to the real bad guy. That came closer to the end and it had a few more cures. Odd assortment of continuing characters, but it appears to be a long series.
The character were interesting and they seemed somewhat beleivable. There was action, humor, and the people seemed like they could have existed. The k9 Bernie was an interesting partner .
M. Z. Kelly is my new fis the second bookavorite author. In the same comedic way of the "One for the Money" series by Janet Evanovich, Kelly has invented fantastic characters in Kate Sexton and her group of friends and colleagues, not to mention Kate's very furry partner, Bernie. This is the second book in the Hollywood Alaphabet Series. It has an even better storyline than the first book. Can't wait ro started the third book and see who Kate picks between Jack or Mack?
In the second book in the series, Kate is now in Homicide and is involved in the murders of 2 people with ties to pop star, Karma. Her new boss really, really does not like her and that just adds to the pressure, because the killer is now planning to kill Kate.
These books are fun and funny. The mysteries are pretty good. I like Kate and her family and friends even though the can be pretty childish when it comes to humor. Lots of penis jokes. I plan to read more in the series but I think I will take a break from the wiener fest.
I liked the first book in this series but wasn’t as impressed by this one.
It’s a serial killer novel, which automatically lowered its rating in my book. Every mystery writer seems to be driven to write at least one, and they as a whole become somewhat tedious after a while. They only vary in the manner the killer executes his or her victims or the level of gore the writer pours onto the page.
Kate Sexton’s friends, Natalie and Mo, were a bit of comic relief in that first book. They’re borderline annoying here. And her boss in the LAPD is almost a caricature.
I already bought the third book in the series and will read it soon. If it’s no better than this one, it will be the last in the series I read.
