Julie Hayward was not a believer in the paranormal. Newly engaged with a photography career just starting to take off, her life is almost comfortable. The only thing she lacks is enough money to repair the family home. But, when her best friend, Gustavia, drags her to a visit with a psychic thinking it will be a fun engagement gift, things get really crazy.
A ghostly encounter provides a cryptic clue to the location of the lost family fortune and a warning that her fiancé is not what he seems. Launched into a wild adventure, Julie must learn to listen to her heart, her intuition and the ghosts that will guide her in order to solve the mystery.
Journalist, Tyler Kingsley gets drawn into the search. What red-blooded male could resist a treasure hunt? The idea gets his blood pumping and so does Julie. When he realizes that her fiancé might be dangerous, he decides to protect her at any cost, even if he loses his heart.
This is a clean, sweet, romance that combines mystery and humor with the paranormal.

I live in Maine with my husband, a silly flufferpup named Dash, and a crazy cat named Cricket. I write full time and also create mixed media artwork when I get the chance.
When I was three, my mom brought home a new book and when she went to read it to me, I read it to her instead. That was when she realized I'd learned to read. Since then I couldn't even estimate the number of books I've read. It's a lot!

Edit: June 11, 2020: I was looking through my Kindle library trying to find a nice easy re-read to pass a long Thursday night with nothing on TV, so I went back into this one. And you know what? I liked it a whole lot more than I did the first time. Despite the over-the-top romance and flowery prose, this had a lot going for it: a cracking good plot, lovable characters and a world that's easy to fall into. I upped my rating to 4.5 stars (since Goodreads doesn't allow half stars, I'll stick it at 4, subtracting a tiny bit for the romance) but overall, it really is a relaxing, enjoyable read.
I picked this up as a freebie on Amazon. I'm really not sure how I feel about it. One one hand, it was a good mystery; Julie and her pals try to figure out where her great-grandfather hid his valuables, aided by the ghosts of her great-grandfather and grandmother, who couldn't tell them specifically where to look for some reason. But hey, hard to make a plot span a whole book if on page 2, great-grandfather ghostie says "it's under the floorboards" or something (it wasn't, btw). On top of the treasure hunt, Julie and her pals have to deal with Julie's menacing boyfriend. So all that was good, enjoyable plot, cute characters, a great read.
Except....
The overly flowery prose grated on my nerves. Witness this savory quote: ...his open hand quickly turning to the fist he so wanted to use to bend her will to his selfish desire.
Yeah, that would fit in Game Of Thrones, but not a Kindle mystery. Or, at least not this Kindle mystery.
Also, for some reason, there had to be a romance involved. And not the kind of flirty romance usually found in a cozy. No, it was the kind you read in a really crappy Harlequin romance, complete with ZINGING! and PASSION and Jesus,. save me from this, because it's really not adding to the story for me. I found myself zipping past pages and pages of this. And to make it worse, grandma ghostie was spying on them and making sighing noises. Seriously. Here, read for yourself,
Tyler gazed back, both lost in the connection of hearts and souls recognizing each other. Hand still tingling, Julie felt as though the universe took a breath then settled into a new rhythm One that had her heart beating, fluttering against her throat as she saw the mirror of her feelings in Tyler's eyes.
My panties were wet, but not from arousal. It was from laughing so hard I tinkled a little.
So, if you took out the cheesy romance, this would easily be a 5 star book. But with the romance drained a lot of my enjoyment.
This was a fun cozy mystery by ReGina Welling. It's slow to begin with because of the introduction of characters but once the mysteries begin it takes off. There is a treasure hunt, ghosts, a physic, an aura reader, an ex-fiancee' that is unstable and two skeptics. Sounds like a strange combination but it all works together nicely.
Julie Hayward's friend, Gustavia, thinks that a visit to a psychic is a great engagement gift. Julie strongly feels otherwise until the psychic channels her late grandmother and great grandfather. Kat, the psychic, has been blind since she gained the ability to see spirits. However she can see clearly when manifesting Julie's grandmother. Add in Amethyst, an aura reader and you have the basis of the paranormal aspect of the book. Julie's fiancé, Logan, scoffs at all the otherworldly woo woo stuff. His main goal is to have Julie sign legal papers that will greatly benefit him and leave Julie out in the cold. A message from great grandfather, Julius has them all looking for a magic garden and the key to a hidden treasure.
I consider this more of a cozy than a true paranormal suspense. The amateur sleuths add a reporter and Gustavia's estranged police office brother to the mix to solve the mystery. We watch Logan descend into darkness as he is determined to get what he considers to be his right. There was sweet love attraction between Julie and Tyler, the reporter. The ghosts are a bit frustrating as they are not allowed to give direct answers and speak in riddles instead.
This was a quick, simple book to read. The strong ties between the friends was charming and helped to keep the story going. I believe I will keep this for my cozy shelf if I continue with the series.
One of my flaws (?) is that I like to stick to a book. I rarely put a book on my DNF shelf as I feel like I can't truly get the sense of the book without reading the entire thing. I stuck with this one, because the story had potential. The characters were fairly well developed in their personalities, but somehow still fell flat to some degree. I liked that it was pretty clean, no swearing or graphic sex.
But this book was also poorly edited, and often I felt like I was reading something written by a teenager in a creative writing class. The writing is sloppy, and the plot and POV jumps all over the place. The author also feels the need to overly explain certain things, like we aren't smart enough to figure it out, but then leaves so many holes and puzzles that you keeping thinking "huh??"
I want to give this series a chance, but I am not sure I can stand to go through the next one.
The story has potential. I really like the characters and it has possibilities. But it isn't a cozy or a mystery. More paranormal romantic suspense. But to have a chance of living up to its potential, the book needs a lot of work with the help of a competent editor. The writing is sloppy. The POV is so unstable I almost gave up several times early on. The bad guy POV gives some details away. And it ends on a hook. So hire a real quality editor, do the work, and polish this and rest of series. Give the characters a chance to shine instead of being overshadowed by errors and confusion. And leave the ending satisfying. The readers will come back for the characters!
It was well researched, characters were developed accordingly, and the paranormal aspects added a beneficial flavor and welcome humor. Fortunately, they follow their intuitions and get positive results most of the time.
There were some typographical errors, which almost lead me to lower the rating. However, it was enjoyable enough to overlook.
I would encourage other readers to give it a try! 8)
A rather enjoyable book. I liked all the characters and it was nice to have a mystery that didn't involve a dead body...just ghosts. ;) There were many LOL moments. :D My only complaint, which dropped my rating down to 4 stars, was the jumping from one character POV to another without any warning, including in the same paragraph. It made it a little hard to follow at times. But, I liked the characters so much that it didn't deter me from finishing. I would like to read the others in this series to see what happens... :)
DNF at 40% The head hopping in this novel left me reeling. It was probably a story I could have gotten into, only the poor writing led it totally astray.
Julie, a young photographer and newly engaged, loses her grandmother and inherits the family home. Her fiancé has plans to turn the family land into a condo development which Julie doesn’t realise until she reads the prenup he just wants her to sign with reading and realises that he wants her to turn her inheritance over to him completely as his wife, this combined with a multimillion dollars insurance policy and some sleuthing by her friend Gustavia reveal he is a conman! She dumps him and she and her friends turn to the quest to find the houses secrets assisted by the ghosts of her Grandmother and great grandfather. An excellent read marred only by a teaser ending. I’m off to find the next in series.
This is so much fun to read. The characters really made this book stand out. Such a mismatch of quirky and unique characters thrown together for a ghostly treasure hunt. I loved the plot, and enjoyed seeing the story unfold. I am really looking forward to the next book and seeing what the gang will get into next.
I really disliked this one. The description spoke of magic, romance and mystery. It had very little of all three, though what mystery it did have it spoke of redundantly. The book could have been half the length it was if the author had used more advanced writing technique and shown what was happening instead of taking the time to write out every awkward and unnecessary thought that crossed each character's mind. She went with an omnipotent author, but switched between characters so frequently for ridiculously small things and it was ridiculous to keep straight who was talking and whose mind you were in at any given time.
The characters were all underdeveloped and flat, with little growth. Trying to make them round, the author would have another character's thoughts spew forth with "This wasn't the weak woman he thought he'd known" and throwing in an awkward af karaoke scene that served no purpose. Same with the scene of them discussing previous boyfriends. And don't even get me started on the awkward romance lines. Talking of tingling skin and ardent love. Psh. The words were just thrown on the page - I didn't FEEL any of it to be true!
It honestly felt like it was written by a fifteen year old. The characters seemed to act like they were about eighteen years old, but randomly it would reference that they had already graduated college or that one was divorced, so they were obviously supposed to be older - gah! There was so much randomness going on, and very little to weave it all together! And so much repetition. If they said a key and the magic garden one more time...I get it. They didn't know what it was - but instead of having all the main characters constantly repeat those words while musing, maybe just touch on it a few important times...
I'm usually not this harsh - it's just that the description seemed so great and the story was completely lacking. Such a let down.
***MINOR SPOILERS *** This book is the first of the six book Psychic Seasons series. Four of the books relate to the four main female characters. All four of the female main characters of the different books appear in this story. The last two books have a different type of story. This book can be read as a standalone. Julia has inherited a house from her grandmother. Unfortunately, it needs extensive repairs and is expensive to keep and she may need to sell it. Her fiancé, Logan, is increasingly pushing her to sell the house and to let him make all the decisions for her. Julia is aware of the red flags in the relationship but has not broken it off at the beginning of the book. Her friend, Gustavia, takes her to see a medium/psychic. Through the medium, her grandmother and great grandfather appear and tell her that there is a treasure on the property. At first disbelieving, Julia changes her mind and looks into it. In doing so, she meets Tyler, the grandson of the historian who wrote a history about her house. The author imbues the story with belief in psychics, tarot cards, crystals, and other mystical rituals, etc. The story is mostly told from Julia’s point of view but there are a few scenes from the point of view of others, including Tyler, Gustavia, Logan, and Julie’s dead grandmother. The relationship between Julie and Tyler seems quick and somewhat superficial. Logan’s character seems stereotypical. This is the first book I have read by the author. I do not plan to continue reading the series or the author. It did not draw me into the story.
I have mixed feelings about this book. Parts of it were interesting, and I like the paranormal plot line; however, the spirits in this book do and can't do a strange variety of things. Many of which, don't make any kind of sense. At the very least, I don't believe that spirits have to abide by these rules. For example, the ghosts can fully appear, walk and talk, sit down and have a full conversation with various characters, and even make a character punch themself in the face, but they can't explicitly tell the characters how to solve the mystery they're trying to solve or even where to look. They can only give cryptic clues. Why? In addition to having some issues with the behavior of the spirits, I felt like the book was unpolished. It had an uneven feel to it. Sections of it where well-written and engrossing, and other parts were juvenile with sophomoric humor (the boyfriend who is proud of farting the alphabet... really???). Still others used overly flowery descriptions like, "He tasted of summer and sunlight...", and "She ran like fine wine through his veins." Ick. Still, the book was a quick read, and I'm open to reading the second in the series to see if things improve.
There are THREE different covers now for this story. I do wish publishers or authors, or whoever thinks this is a good decision wouldn't do it !! I just don't see the need myself. This story wasn't for me. I don't mind a little of the paranormal here and there but I can't get on with outright fantasy-based stories and this one tips over the edge into the latter genre for me. I got as far as 15% and called it a day. Amazon has it listed as 500+ pages which is more than double what it is at 202 pages. That should be corrected as people will be expecting an epic !! I spotted a missed apostrophe and a set of speechmarks but that was it for errors which was pretty good going, even the short portion I'd read. I've seen way, way worse, trust me. I reached the spot where Julie encounters Grams and her great-great-grandfather in the library and it had overstepped the mark for me. If you have a more vivid imagination than I do, though, I'm sure you'll get on with it just fine.
Really needs more editing!!! But I thoroughly enjoyed the story. Julie has inherited the family estate which includes a dilapidated old house in need of expensive repairs. Having little income, Julie can't afford the repairs. She is engaged to Logan who is not who he has told her. When Logan tries to swindle her, Julie breaks off the engagement, making Logan very angry!! He swears revenge. Julie has friends who are in touch with the spirit world and can see, hear, learn things that the rest of us can't. When Tyler is invited to help solve the family mystery, things get interesting!! This story is the first in a series. Read this one first. ENJOY!
I might be learning that Cozy Mystery as a genre just might not be for me? I love every single premise I read but when it comes to the books they don't hook me the same way.
Rings on Her Fingers was barely a Mystery; it was 600 pages of Julie and her group of friends trying to solve one riddle and making absolutely no headway until the last 40 pages where they just kind of suddenly figure it out and that was it. The romance was boring, I didn't care at all about Julie and Tyler as a couple, maybe it was because it was insta-love, maybe because he had no personality traits other than not being freaked out or rude to Julie's crystal girly BFF which... girl... set the bar higher please.
The writing was also clunky; it was third person; mostly written from Julie's perspective and although it did specifically jump POVs at times others you would just see one off sentences of other peoples thoughts. The villain and his motives were given away super early using this style which... again... there is no mystery if you give everything away in the first 50 pages of a 600 page book.
Julie also was a nothing character. She had zero agency in her entire story which was supposed to be about learning to lighten up and go with the flow but it was just her friends making all of the decisions in the story while she was visibly annoyed the entire time and just chose not to say anything because she knew there wasn't a point in it. That's not character growth. It made everyone else in the story seem significantly more interesting than the main character which made me not care about her.
The characters were good, the plot well executed, but this book had a lot of grammar issues, and even had a URL in the middle of the text. The editing was not very well done, and it was hard to read at times when the author would bounce from one thought to another in the middle of a paragraph, or put commas or punctuation in the wrong place. I had to reread two pages three times to figure out what was going on as when the jumps or mistakes were made, I was not sure who was speaking, whose thoughts were being written about. I think this author needs a better proofreader, or beta reader. Otherwise, the story was good.
Totally a disappointment in terms of story development, and a ripoff to get you to buy more of this author's work. Started with interesting premise, but apparently the writer lost interest fairly early on. Heroine is shallow character and other characters (with one exception, Gustavia) are equally shallow and poorly developed. The love interest is childishly explored with a marriage proposal as unappealing and boring as anything you might imagine. With so many good books available, I am sorry I wasted my time reading this. September 2017
I will give this series a solid 4.5 stars. I loved the couples and their shared friendships/family. I loved reading about the psychic gifts that they all had and how they all grew with the support and love of each other and their own growth and bravery. One problem I had was after Gustavia and Finn got together, the child disappeared until the end of the last book, despite the couple still being involved all the time... Grammar mistakes started happening with more frequency... Still, magical:)
Julie thought she had met the love of life… but he was more interested in her property and his control of it.. and isolating her from everyone she knew… Julie gets ghostly visits from two ancestors but the most surprising thing is that Julie’s new friends can see them too! She learns to have fun again, and they finally decipher the cryptic clues.. Only to learn that this is the first of four hidden places in the house. It was an interesting story, with engaging characters and the promise of more excitement.. potentially more HEA for the other three women in this story.

This is the kind of book that you listen to over and over again, because it is sooo good. The story is unique and wonderful and the characters are extremely likeable, sweet and funny (except Logan, of course). It is not only an excellent paranormal mystery, but also a story about love and friendship, with many twists and turns. The book is perfectly narrated by Caren Naess. I loved this audiobook and highly recommend it.
A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed this book! Not only does Julie have her grandmothers but also her great grandfathers ghosts helping her to find a hidden secret. The only trouble is, they can't tell her anything other than cryptic clues. Luckily she broke off her engagement when her fiance tried to swindle her out of her family home, using a pre nup, which she had the sense to read. Unfortunately though, he doesn't take rejection well! Good job Tyler, her handsome new friend, is on hand. A great mystery!!
This book reminded me of whipped cream. Light & fluffy, delicious to gobble down. But, it's not filling and after a while you find yourself wanting/needing something with a bit more substance.
This book was such an easy read. The words flowed across the page. And the plot was interesting. But, I wanted more depth to the characters themselves. I didn't have any emotional response to them at all. So while this was an enjoyable read, I can't say I loved it.
The only thing we are missing is a cat. Julie is a photographer engaged to a business man...or is he? Her friends despise him. They all see the red flags but Julie doesn't. Then there is the gigantic house inherited from her beloved grandmother. Who is still hanging around. The house is falling apart and Julie can't afford to fix it. Or are the rumors of a magical garden and a hidden treasure real?
Wasn’t sure what to expect but, I liked this book.
Julie best friend Gustavia takes her to see a psychic as an engagement gift. There Julie gets a warning about her fiancé,Logan, who is not who he seems to be.
Julie is wanting to fix up her old home but money is lacking. There has always been a family talk to a treasure hidden. So with help from her friends and ghostly ancestors Julie goes on the hunt for this treasure and cryptic clues about a secret garden.
Read this and the others in the series a few years ago. It was time to do it again!
Julie was about to make the mistake of her life marrying Logan. When he insisted she sign a pre nuptial agreement signing over all her land and estate and a multimillion dollar Life insurance policy on just her and nothing on him, she decided to heed the warnings of her grandmother and great grandfather and not sign them. It didn't matter that her relatives were ghosts now, did it? Did it?
