The Devil's Grin #2, "Don't Be Afraid of Mr. Sleep"
The previous issuing having served as a prologue, this issue begins the main story. Jumping forward to 1974, the story follows a fully grown Robert Jr. who lives an aimless existence spending his days drinking and crafting "sewer poems". He's often preoccupied with thoughts from his infancy where he was captive to a demonic entity, whilst also thinking often about a mother who abandoned him down the toilet. He retains a rather superficial relationship with a girl named Maggie, but pines for his neighbor Dandelion, who also seems to have some pensiveness with respect to demonic presences around them. Meanwhile, the neighbor Gary has been crafting comics that seem rather clairvoyant and also in service to the dark entities that surround all the characters.
This issue really sets the stage for the bizarre paranormal thriller this series promises to be.
