Announcing a bonus of five short stories for fans of the Mike Travis paranormal investigations It all began for Mike Travis with a helicopter crash in war-torn Afghanistan that resulted in his being declared clinically dead; before expert combat medics brought him back to life. But he came back with a gift. He could see ghosts. These five short stories bridge the gap between what happened in the immediate aftermath of the crash to his arrival in Crowsmoor, Cornwall, where his help has been summoned in an effort to prevent the return of an ancient evil. Beginnings charts his progress from his first encounter with a ghost to his becoming a recognised investigator into all things paranormal. For readers of the series, these five short stories will be familiar territory. If you haven’t yet met Mike, Beginnings can be read as a stand-alone collection of short stories. Or it may just invite you into Mike’s paranormal world.
I’m Jan McDonald, the author of the Mike Travis Paranormal Investigations. I live close to the Welsh borders which have their own mystical quality and provide endless resources in the way of legends and folklore surrounding the paranormal. I love all things paranormal and have loved reading the best, Dennis Wheatley, Stephen King (his early work) Edgar Allan Poe, Bram Stoker, H.P. Lovecraft and all those authors that excel in the creepy or down-right scary.
When I embarked on the Mike Travis series I realised that the field of paranormal investigation is more than we see on the popular TV programmes and above all else I wanted to be accurate and so I trained as a Paranormal Investigator and studied parapsychology. I love researching my books, so this was no chore. I’m also the author of the Father Beckett Vampire Trilogy (Part One: Midnight Wine and Part Two: Lycan ). The research for this series was fun and entailed a journey to Transylvania with The London Vampire group! Going to revisit next year.

Being a big fan of Jans Mike Travis series of books, this one had somehow managed to escape me unknowingly. However, once found, I had to read it to find out all that had gone on before the first proper Mike Travis book, The Crowsmoor Curse. Although the storys are much shorter than the books, they still draw you in just as easily and are equally as exciting and interesting. Well recommended as prelude to the whole series. I for one can't wait for the next book in the saga to come out, which I believe is due soon. Five stars and well worth it.
A short read about a paranormal investigator's first experiences and first cases. Glad to have read a book about an investigators point of view fiction or not. Would love to follow him in other cases.
While the Crowsmoor Curse is a great read, it does not provide you with too much information on the Mike Travis. These stories detail his indoctrination into the world of paranormal investigation and some of his earliest experiences with spirits of the departed. Entertaining and at times amusing, these stories force one to think differently about the possibilities surrounding hauntings. A good quick read for fans of traditional styled ghost stories. If you haven't read book 1 the Crowsmoor Curse, then this book is a great starting point, ending with the letter that draws Mike into the events in that book.
Beginnings (A Mike Travis Paranormal Investigation Book 1)
People who are mainly into mysteries who also have an interest in love stories and the paranormal will find this book intriguing. This introductory storyline sets expectations for future books. I also noticed that this book is not one of those books that are overwhelmed with minutiae. I liked it for the most part.
