Guardians of the Four Realms #3

The Heart of a Vampire

Rate this book
A vampire with a tragic past. A human woman who tastes like redemption. A love worth risking everything for.

Already struggling to cope with everything else life has thrown at her, the last thing Rachel needs right now is a stalker. Although, meeting her gorgeous new self-appointed bodyguard just might make it worth the hassle.

After more than two hundred years of existence, most of them as a vampire, Eli has both the means and the freedom to live the carefree lifestyle he enjoys. Or at least, he used to enjoy it.

Pulled into Rachel’s life when she reaches out to Zara for help with her stalker problem, Eli finds himself struggling to stick to his one and only rule when it comes to women. No mortals. And she’s not doing anything to make it easier for him to resist her.

As the Oracle’s prophecy continues to unfold, a shocking discovery leads Eli to question everything he thought he knew about his past. And may threaten everything he finally dares to hope for in his future.

A future with the woman who’ll stop at nothing to win his heart. Because some rules are meant to be broken.

Caro is a self-confessed bookaholic. She really likes coffee and chocolate too (oh, and wine!), but a good paranormal romance – preferably one with a hot vampire in it – is definitely her first love.

Originally from the South of England, she moved to Turkiye in 2022 where she now spends most of her time writing and trying to convince next door's cats that they do not, in fact, live with her. Is it working? Of course not, they're cats!

This book is about Eli, the nicest vampire around, and Rachel, a friend of Zara’s that needs help.
After agreeing to find and stop the stalker after Rachel, the attraction between Eli and Rachel is impossible to stop. She is a down on her luck dancer and waitress, he is an extremely rich vampire who just wants to take care of her. She’s pretty independent so that’s not going over well.
This book covers their growing attraction and relationship and Rachels introduction to the supernatural world. Unlike the previous books there is less about the troubles with the rebels. But the prophecy mentioned in the last book is definitely involved.
This book is quick reading, enjoyable read with a fair amount of spice. It is told from multiple POV’s but they work really well. The characters from the previous books have their own chapters.
There are both old and new characters, some humour, an interesting story, some surprises and spice.

We see this book focusing on Eli, our MMC, the sweetest and nicest vampire you could ever hope to meet. And our FMC, a friend of Zara's named Rachel that find's herself in need of help and turns to Eli.

Eli agrees to find and stop the stalker that is after Rachel only to find that their own attraction and chemistry can't be ignored or stopped. Eli's a rich vampire who wants to take care of Rachel while she's just sadly down on her luck, being a dancer who moonlights as a waitress to make ends meet. She's fiercely independent, so Eli wanting to take care of her does NOT go over so well.

“The Vampire's Heart” is all about the romance and attraction that blooms between Rachel and Eli, and honestly, it's Rachel's introduction into the supernatural world at large. Unlike “The Lost Fae” or “The Tenth Guardian” there really isn't a lot of trouble with any of the rebels in this book. But I did notice that the prophecy that we saw mentioned in the last book did play out and was involved in this book heavily.

It didn't really take me all that long to read this book as it really is a fast read in comparison to the other two, and I did enjoy it a lot. There is a lot of spice in it, which is always fun to read. And even though it is told from multiple POVs, it works really well, and you don't find it distracting, and it flows nicely from viewpoint to viewpoint, and you always know who is talking. You even find that some of the characters from the previous books have their own chapters in this book.

I did love the blend of new and old characters in this book with the humor and interesting story. I think it makes for a very interesting read, and the spice add that element that would otherwise be missing. I think this would be a great read for anyone who enjoys PNR and who enjoys a good spicy read. I highly recommend it, and I look forward to the next installment in the series.

The premise of the story is a good one. A mortal woman, a vampire and their love story. I really struggled with their connection. Unlike Seth and Zara and Jed and Phoebe, I just didn’t buy it. I also struggled with the interludes of different character perspectives as they seemed out of place and left the story a bit jumbled. And the Gwen, Aleric arc was so quick and left me disappointed that there wasn’t more to it.

I will keep reading the series as I’m interested to see what’s going to happen and I’m hopeful things will come together.
